1 REBELS AUTO CLUB NEWSLETTER MAY 2015 Happy May Rebels, President s Message Well its show season, and as I look at the car council book, there are car shows every weekend for the next 4 months. These events are what car people enjoy. We get asked a lot to help out at other show events, whether it be nursing homes, charity events, or other car shows. It is always fun helping out with these shows. But it does take lots of time and manpower. So I ask all of the rebels out there, please volunteer at these events. We need everyone s help, not just a few. Don t forget that our show is at the end of June and we still need help. I NEED JUDGES! If your name is not on a list, please contact me. I will be going down the roster! I am also still looking for help with Tour Nebraska. It was voted on that we would be the host club, but I had to outsource from another club 4 people but I still need 2 more. Those two shifts are on Sunday June 7 th at 3:15 directing traffic to Speedway Motors. For helping, you will get into the party on Saturday and then into the ice cream social on Sunday at Speedway as well as a tour of the museum. I am looking forward to a fun summer with all my rebel friends!! 6 by Jim Jensen THIS MONTH WE HIGHLIGHT OUR REBELS MEMBERS ROGER AND PAT SCHWAB In the Spring of 1976 Pat and I were looking to buy a new Laguna. We didn't like any of the colors Duteaus had to offer. We started to walk out when the salesman said he would make us a deal on the Caprice on the show room floor. We must of walked past it without seeing it on our way to look at the Lagunas. We went back and WOW did we like it. The Caprice was metallic lime green, with a white Landeau roof, white interior, green hub caps, fender skirts and am radio. The next day I was working my second job and came home later than normal. Pat said to hurry up that Duteaus had the car off the show room floor for us to drive. After driving it, I knew I wanted it. Pat's step father knew the salesman and tried to get more off the price, but he said that was it. When we picked up the car it was raining and I hated to drive it out but I did. When I drove in the garage I hit a broom which hit a chair hanging on the wall which came down and put a dent in the hood. OUCH!!!! Was I mad! I wasn't used to the extended bumper. Through the years we enjoyed it and later started to show the car with fellow member Bob Andrews. I've had the rust taken out of the top, renewed the vinyl top and painted the hood, top and trunk. Had the drivers seat renewed and new carpet. Don Kringle put vinyl around the back side windows to replace the chrome ones which I couldn't get anymore. Turned out great and looks good. Put in a AM/FM radio to fit the dash. Got tired of listening talk radio going to car shows. I've had a person tell me the color green of my car bounces off mine onto his car when taking pictures and another person told me we'll find out who Superman is when he drops dead going by my car. Pat and Roger Schwab Footnote to Roger and Pat s car from Jim Jensen. I kid Roger about this car but in truth this really a fine looking car. Roger and Pat made a great decision in buying this car as everywhere it goes it s the one of the highlights of a car show. I call it the green machine. Roger and Pat have become great friends. Our next trip together is Bee, Nebraska. This is a show and shine with lots of homemade chicken.

7 How many styles of doors can be used on vehicles? 7 Can you name them? Conventional or regular door that has hinges on the front facing edge. Suicide doors has hinges on trailing edge. What other name was used? Kidnapper doors Scissor doors rotate vertically upward and are hinged near the end of the windshield (A-pillar) Butterfly doors are similar to scissor doors but move both vertically and outward. Gull-wing doors are hinged at the upper edge and the roof. Sliding doors are hung on a track and move both vertically or horizontally. Canopy doors sit on top of the vehicle and can be hinged from front, side or back edge. Rarely used on production cars mostly on Lemans type endurance race cars. Is he lonesome Or just blind This guy who drives So close behind They missed the turn Car was whizz n Fault was Her n Funeral His n The Cannibals Took just one view And said he looks Too nice to stew Within this Vale Of Toil and Sin Your head grows bald But not your chin use

8 Rod Phelps, Jerry and Becky Hutchinson, Johnny, Goldie and G'onne Nun, Bob Andrews, Roger Schwab and Sandy and Boyd Ready attended the car show and anniversary celebration held in Bradshaw Nebraska to honor Marilyn and Dale Ratzlaff. A meal of pulled pork, chips, beans and cake was served to all of the participants as well as dash plaques to the first 75 entries Ready s Honored Cindy Wimmer attended the April club meeting representing NRCA and Tour Nebraska. She, along with Mr. Rod, presented the Nebraska Rod and Custom Association s annual Drive It Award to Boyd and Sandy Ready for their promotion of classic vehicles.
