1 REBELS AUTO CLUB NEWSLETTER APRIL 2011 President s Message I think I can safely say that Spring is here and so are warmer temperatures. The sound of hot rods and motorcycles can be heard all around. The Rebels have lots of activities to get involved with this year. Many of you are getting your cars out of storage or have already been cruising around. So clean off the dust and wax em up. We kick off with the Bandit Run on April 9 th and 10 th here in Lincoln. We will be serving food to the participants on Sunday afternoon, April 10 th at Restore a Muscle Car. If you would like to help serve food to the participants, please come out and also see the Bandit cars. Parking is limited, so please be aware. It s not too early to be thinking about our car show. If you haven t signed up to help, please do so. We are actively looking for sponsors and contributors of door prizes. If you know of any business or individual that would like to advertise their name at our car show, call Doug Weber or Ron Brown. I would like to take this opportunity to mention the passing of a beloved member of the Rebels. Bruce Craig passed away on March 25 th. Several Rebels attended his Celebration of Life on April 1rst. We are still in disbelief at his passing and will miss his huge smile and warm heart. I have been told the 56 Chevy will stay in the family. He was a wonderful Vice President and will certainly leave a void in our club and our lives. Please check the calendar dates in the Coordinator s Report for upcoming events. Hope to see you all on the road soon. IF CARS COULD TALK We d sure like to know the history of your car or other stories you may have! I m sure if cars could talk, oh my, what a story they would tell! How about sharing yours! Thanks to Jim Mertlik and Larry Wentink for sharing this month. Jim Mertlik has had his 41 Chevy since December of It was his High School Car in Fresno California. He drove it to the Lincoln Air Force Base in September of 1957 and he s still driving it. Larry Wentink of Seward, wiled away a portion of his youth in his dad s repair shop at 22nd and O. He started cleaning windows and graduated to shining wheels, then real repair work. Along the way, he learned to love cars, so it was no surprise that shortly after his 16th birthday in 1958 he joined a new car club - the Rebels Auto Club. Forty-some years later, Wentink is still a member of the club. He has owned his 66 Charger since it was new, so for about 45 years. Guess who this is standing by his 34 Ford 5 Window Coupe in 1959??

5 Coordinators Report I am saddened by the passing of one of our most active Rebels. Bruce Craig was one of the first to volunteer when there was something to be done. When an old car was needed to haul a wedding, or a picture was needed, or someone was needed to move some thing or any other help that was needed Bruce was there with a smile. Bruce and I went on the Lincoln Garage Tour together a couple of weekends ago. We had a great time looking at other guy s garages and projects. I will miss him. Congratulations members: Terry Vesely and Dawn Harris. New baby girl born 3/12/11 Delaney Jean. Marv Richey is out of the hospital and residing at Gramercy Hill for now, still fighting the battle. He is in Suite 39. Cards and letters would be appreciated. The ENWICC Swap Meet went very well. The Rebels provided 5 crews that worked the early and late shifts on Sunday March 6 th.
