While we prepare to spring into the new quarter, let s see what Alpha Lambda was up to in the winter. Read further for a Letter from the President, Madison Rushing, Fall 4.0s, and much more. Happy Reading! Brooke Teekell & Mckenzie Salard Taylor Loftin, Hannah Myles, Yasmeen Lebbad, Shelby Moore, Allison Hurst, Melanie Wascom, Caroline Bell Allison Lockhart FALL FLASHBACK Adrianna Inneusa Insert Names Congratulations to Melanie Wascom and Joelle Moorman for being named as outstanding senior scholars for the College of Business! Welcome our 2016 Orientation Student Leader, Morgan Fangue Trying out for OSL was one of the most nerve racking and stressful processes I ve ever been through, but I know this summer and this year with my staff will be the most memorable of my college career. I am so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful university and I can t think of a better way to give back to Tech all it has given me than by serving as an orientation leader. I cannot contain my excitement for all that I am about to experience and I owe a huge thanks to my Phi Mu sisters for all the support and encouragement! -Morgan Fangue, OSL #633 1
2 Letter from the President Full of Phi Mu spirit, junior, Madison Rushing was chosen by her peers to represent Alpha Lambda as the official gavel holder. Sisters, I wanted to take the time to share a few updates with all of you! As some of you may have seen, half of our executive committee recently attended National Officer Academy where we learned so many ideas to better our chapter! Some of the goals that we have set in conjunction with the committee heads and chapter include: continuously increasing the positivity/morale of the chapter, growing our communication with the chapter and alumnae, maintaining the highest retention rate possible of Phis and initiated members, raise our chapter GPA to a 3.4 from a 3.309, and have all members involved in two or more organizations on campus and in the community! We are working hard to utilize resources and ideas to reach these goals as a chapter, and feedback and help is always encouraged! On another note, I wanted to let all of you know that we are in the process of having Delta Delta Delta join our Panhellenic community here at Louisiana Tech! They will be colonizing a chapter in the fall and working to purchase the lodge at the end of the lane! We are extremely excited to welcome them! With a chapter expecting to be over 200 girls this fall and having met on campus for a few years now, it is definitely time! We also entered a stacking agreement with Kappa Kappa Gamma during the extension process agreeing to offer them a spot to colonize at Tech in the Fall of 2019 or 2020 if the numbers indicate the need, which we are anticipating! This is an exciting time to be a Phi Mu with all that s going on! Yours in our Bond, Madison Rushing So Long, Farewell On January 14th we said goodbye to our favorite 2015 Orientation Student Leaders. As the new staff was chosen, we look back on the fond memories of Casey s Canty Collies and Hannah s Happy Hounds. Hannah Francis said, "Becoming an Orientation Leader was an opportunity that I never thought I'd have while at Tech. Looking back on it, though, it's really hard to put into words. It's a lot of hard work, but it was hands down the best experience I've ever had. The relationships I formed with my staff, Tech faculty, and my freshman mean so much to me. I matured as a person and saw my communication skills improve, as well. Orientation has played a huge part in my college experience and in my life. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to represent Tech on such a large scale. Thank you Casey Chaudoir and Hannah Francis! Alumnae Visit History of Phi Mu Alpha Lambda On January 10, 2016, Miriam Savage, Elizabeth Green, and Becky Napper came and spoke to us about the founders of Alpha Lambda. We are so grateful that they took time out of their day to tell us about our history, and it was wonderful to see that the love we have for Phi Mu today will still remain with us long after we graduate and go alum. 2
3 Christmas: Phi Mu Edition From Christmas on the Lane to a fabulous sisterhood event, Phi Mu definitely rocked this holiday season. Alpha Lambda's Holiday Extravaganza was filled with cookie making and ornament decorating. The tree was the perfect accent for the pile of Dirty Santa gifts stacked up under it, and the photo booth was a definite hit. Thank you for planning such a perfect sisterhood event, Sydne Goldstein and Joelle Moorman! Christmas on the Lane was also a huge success. With some great desserts, and a craft station, the holiday spirit could certainly be felt! Thank you to everyone who helped. Pictured: Carrie Ragland & Hannah Self IT S FOR THE KIDS Carlea Clemens coordinated our 2nd annual Dodgeball tournament, her first event as our philanthropy chairman, and raised $10, for Children s Miracle Network Hospitals. Over fifty teams came out to support the cause along with local businesses and families. Great job, Carlea, for planning such an amazing event! Thank you sisterhood for having creative minds and loving hearts! STUCK IN MY MIND On January 25th, Bob Lane came to the lodge for a private hypnotist session with Alpha Lambda. Everyone in the room couldn t help but laugh as sisters were hypnotized to perform hilarious antics. GAMMA CHI 2016 Given the opportunity to be a Gamma Chi for a recruitment season is a true joy and takes great patience. A Gamma Chi will disaffiliate from her home sorority and aid incoming potential new members in one of their most crucial decisions in college. Congrats to all Gamma Chi s! We can t wait to welcome you home again. DΦΜination No, you're not experiencing a moment of deja vu. Phi Mu really did win intramural volleyball once again this quarter. Special congratulations are definitely in order for this rocking team! Way to go, and thanks for making Alpha Lambda look so awesome! Pictured: Tiffany Marlbrough, Catherine Beck, Madison Rushing, Alyssa Simon, Rebecca Robert, & Juliette Pate IT'S SWEET BEING SMART Panhellenic & Phi Mu gave cupcakes to sisters who finished fall quarter with a 4.0 GPA. Krewe de Phi Mu Whether they were crowned as princess or queen at their local Krewes, danced the night away at a ball, or went to a parade, Mardi Gras was unforgettable for many ladies in Alpha Lambda. Anna Caroline Leblanc Phi Mu Retreat On Saturday, January 16th, we had our annual Phi Mu retreat at Lake Who s Who State Park. Amidst all the Claiborne fun and games, it was a time for all the pledge classes to make new friends and create lasting memories. 5 OPERATION SHOEBOX STUDENT RECRUITERS 2016 During February 19th, SGA held a contest for student organizations across campus to collect items that would be sent to soldiers. At the end of the week, Phi Mu came out on top in the 100+ division! Way to go! Sisters will join other division winners in a celebratory dinner with President Guice on Monday, March 21. Congratulations to our new Phi Mu Student Recruiters. Our President, Madison Rushing also serves as Vice President and Hannah Francis serves as President!
