1 Race for Education UPDATE! Dear Parents/Guardians, Congratulations to everyone who participated and donated to the Race for Education. It was a great success!! Our goal this year was $40,000 and although we did not make this goal, everyone worked so hard; therefore, all students, faculty and staff will receive a NUT Card Day on---friday, May 4 th. Please follow the guidelines for NUT card days as stated in our Handbook below: NUT Card/ Dress Down Days ---Students generally conduct themselves in a manner similar to the way they dress and groom. Therefore, even on dress down days, short shorts, spaghetti strap tank tops, ripped jeans, shirts and hats with inappropriate slogans, and make up are not permitted. The mid-section must be completely covered. Yoga pants or leggings without a long shirt are not permitted. Slip on shoes, flip flops, sandals or any open toe shoes are not permitted for the safety of our students. Shorts may not be worn during our winter months November thru March. If a NUT Card is used on a student s scheduled gym day, the student must wear sneakers to participate in gym. NUT CARDS MAY NOT BE USED ON DAYS SCHEDULED WITH MASS OR SPECIAL EVENTS. Gratefully, Patricia Mancuso, Principal & Jackie Kern, Race Coordinator

2 Dear St. Mary School Parents/Guardians, May 2018 We are excited to introduce to our current families a new Referral Grant Program to assist with tuition costs. The St. Mary School Referral Grant Program gives our current families the chance to lower their own tuition. For every family (not per child who is registering from the same family) that a current family recruits, they will earn $500 in tuition credit (total, not per current number of students in the referring family) which will be applied to your tuition. This program will begin Wednesday, May 9, 2018 and applies only to those families who will refer a family from this date forward (for the school year). It does not apply to those who have already applied for admittance to St. Mary School in September. The following restrictions apply: 1- For current families to receive their referral bonus, the referred family must complete the entire school year (September 2018-Last day of school in June 2019). 2- There must be available seats in the desired class to accommodate a new student. 3- This program does not apply to in-diocesan transfers (those transferring to St. Mary School from another Catholic school within the Camden Diocese) 4- Referral grants CANNOT be transferred to other families. 5- Referrals are only for those students entering grades Kindergarten through 7 th grade for the school year. 6- Please advise the family you are referring to inform us at the time of their registration that you have referred them. Admission requirements and determination of admission apply to all to those who register for St. Mary School. 7- Although current 7 th and 8 th grades families (who do not have any younger siblings in St. Mary School) would not directly benefit from this referral program, we hope you would still share with others all of the great benefits St. Mary School offers and the quality education your child is receiving. Referrals to St. Mary School, and ultimately the admittance of new students, will help St. Mary School continue to pursue academic excellence, build a foundation for spiritual growth and cultivate values rooted in our Catholic heritage. It will also generate revenue from an otherwise empty seat and will enable us to maintain a healthy and vigorous budget that will keep tuition affordable for all. Word of mouth is the best marketing tool! We are hoping our families will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity! Please see attached sheet for more information regarding upcoming Open Houses, registration opportunities, tuition prices, and contact information. God Bless, Mrs. Patricia Mancuso Principal

6 May Procession May 6, :30am Mass The month of May is one of the two months we set aside in a special way, to honor Mary, Our Blessed Mother. To extend to her and display our love and our gratitude for her protection and intercession for us to her divine son, Our Lady of Peace Parish will once again hold our May Procession on Sunday, May 6th before the 10:30 Mass. We are inviting all our 2nd & 8th Graders to be a special part of this beautiful tribute to the Mother of Jesus and all of us, on the day we honor all moms. We ask that 2nd graders wear their First Communion dresses and suits, and 8th graders wear their Confirmation Robes. These Sacramental symbols of your special day will certainly add to the celebration of Mary's importance in the world. We are also inviting religious education, Scouts boys/girls, Elizabeth Ministry, Catholic Daughters, Legion of Mary and Knights of Columbus to help us process in the May Procession and during Mass. Participants are asked to please arrive at The Peace Pole (parking lot side of parish center) at 10:15AM on May 6th. We will be processing at 10:20AM along the sidewalk to the front of the Church. Procession will enter Church and participants will attend 10:30 Mass. There will be pews in front of the church reserved for the students who will be participating. Parents will NOT be able to sit with their children during the Mass. Please contact Loren Laughlin via phone ( Ext.19) or e- mail llaughlin@olopp.org if interested in joining us to honor the patroness of our wonderful parish. We are looking for another successful year celebrating our Blessed Mother. Thank you in advance for your participation.

7 On Tuesday, May 22nd, St. Mary School will honor the Blessed Mother with a May Crowning and Living Rosary. The prayer service will be held in church at 9:15 am.

13 Dear Parents/Guardians: It is time once again to mobilize our school community to advocate for our students. When Governor Murphy s budget was released last month, the ceiling for nonpublic transportation had reverted back to $ We are asking that it be returned to the $1000 we fought so hard for last year. Furthermore, the Governor s proposed 2019 budget cut 3.8 million dollars in total from nonpublic school aid, reducing it from $101,603 million to $97,803 million. The cuts were taken from Nursing Services and Technology Aid. So, we are also asking that nonpublic aid in these two categories to be restored at least to the level of funding received in FY At this time, we are asking that you take the following action. Simple click on the link below and fill in your name and information. There you will find a template letter that you can sign and send to the key members of the Senate and Assembly budget committees. Last year our diocese was way out in front of the other NJ dioceses in this campaign. Let s do it again this year!
