1 SpyGlass Page Harbor Drive, Slidell, LA Four Men Enter... Two Men Leave... Congratulations to Bali Hai and Kat's Meow for making it across the finish line. Both boats received first place in their class. The morning started out with some very enjoyable sailing conditions, but later that afternoon some of those famous Lake Pontchartrain squalls rolled in scattering the four boat fleet. One boat reported getting lost after heading back from the mark near the causeway, only to end up right next to the north shore of the lake. Two boats were not able to complete the course due to safety and equipment concerns. We would like to thank all of competitors and hope we can attract more sailors next year!

2 Page 2 September was a bad month for J.B. and me. We buried my father and lost our dog Jessie on the same day. I would like to thank all of you wonderful people for your cards and prayers, and Deacon Almos for presiding over my father's funeral. There are good things going on at the club in October as I said the Dock Party on October 4th, a wine pairing dinner presented by the First Mates and featuring Navarro Vineyards on October 11th. We are all looking forward to the Island Party on November 15th. Halloween falls on a Steak Night watch out out for the goblins! Thanks to all members that helped with the sale of the Irwin, the proceeds will be put to good use. Not much else for now. See you at the club! Jim Commodore's Corner

3 Page 3 ISLAND PARTY! Our annual Island (Calypso) Party has finally been scheduled! Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 15th and start practicing your limbo moves! The festivities will begin at 7:00. The cost is $12.00 per person. The Arrivals will be playing from 7:30 to 11:30. (This is the band we all enjoyed so much at the Grand Reopening). There will be light appetizers served, specialty drinks to quench your thirst and various (surprise) contests with prizes. We are taking orders for Island Party shirts. There is a choice of men's or women's styles in two very tropical colors! A picture of the shirts are available at the club. Please contact Sandy McPeek if you have any questions regarding your order. We've all endured a pretty stressful hurricane season this year and we deserve to have some fun, so come to the islands, drink a pina colada, and dance like there's no tomorrow!!! 4 Page 4 Pool Party! The First Mates held their General Membership Meeting and annual Pool Party on September 27. Mary Pat Landry graciously hosted the event in her lovely lakefront home. First Mates Mary Brisbi, June Collins, Ann Courrege, Gilda Green, B.J. Lanasa-Burton,Carole LaNata, Mary Pat Landry, SandyMcPeek, Val Monahan, Rae Ann Normand, Judy Redshaw, Nancy Ritzmann, Sylvia Savoie, and Kathleen Vincellette, attended as well as Judy s friend Linda Burk. Among other things on the agenda, the First Mates discussed the upcoming events for the remainder of the year. On October 11 there will be a WineParing Dinner featuring the wines of NavarroVineyards. Those attending will enjoy guitar music by Gary Huelette. The cost is $32.50 per person and reservations must be in by Wednesday, October 8. The annual Tree Trimming Party is Thursday, December 4 during Happy Hour at TYC. First Mates are invited to join in this fun time as the Christmas Tree is trimmed. The First Mates Christmas Luncheon will be Saturday, December 6 at Jasmine French Restaurant in Olde Towne Slidell. The cost is $18 and reservations with your selection of meals must be made by November 24 with Rae Ann Normand. Not much swimming was done, but it was a great day and everyone enjoyed sitting by the pool and visiting.

Your choices to eat are: Crusted Rack of Lamb or Cornish Hen Please make your reservation to attend by October 8th. The Tree Trimming the Christmas will be December 4th, 6:30 P.M., at the club. Our Christmas Luncheon will be Saturday, December 6th, at Jasmine s, 1768 Front Street, Slidell. The cost will be $18.00 per person and this includes tax and gratuity. The choices are: Chicken Chasseur chicken with a light red sauce with mushrooms, shallots, garlic, etc. Veal Milanese panned veal sautéed in a lemon butter sauce Tilapia Almandine white fish sautéed with wine and lemon butter sauce Petit Filet with mushroom sauce The entire above are served with salad, potato, and fresh vegetable. Chocolate Mousse for dessert, and coffee, tea, ice tea, or soda. If you will be attending the luncheon, you will need to mail your check to Rae Ann prior to November 24th. At the luncheon we will be electing our new officers for the coming year. If you should know any mates that would like to join The First Mates, please let me know. Also, you need to be thinking about who you would like to be your new Sweetheart of the Year.
