1 January 27, 2016 Dear St. Peter Families, ST. PETER CATHOLIC SCHOOL Principal s Weekly Newsletter How quickly we have reached 100 days of school! Contemplating the learning that is taking place across campus each day, from windmills to paintings to owl pellets to short stories to our Catholic identity, I am so impressed with our school family. Our teachers love to teach your children, and they embrace the mission of our school. Our students work hard in their classes, and they remind us all of the power of having faith like a child. No day is so difficult in our ministry that cannot be fulfilled by the joy of our students. We also feel this as parents at home, when our children share about their day at school. Great things are happening! Through good days and tough days, we can be proud of the Christ-centered formation that occurs daily at St. Peter Catholic School. School pride is something that we usually hear reinforced at the high school level. Our chaplain at Archbishop Rummel, Father Roca, spoke constantly of Raider Pride. As a young student, I remember growing numb to talks from Father Roca and teachers about the need to have pride in our school. I wondered why they kept stressing it to us. The answer was simple. If we constantly prayed in thanksgiving for our Catholic education and if we were determined to have pride in our school, then we would all take better care of it and each other. We would take our faith and education very seriously. Loving our school and taking pride in it takes effort and determination. It is a choice, just as showing kindness constantly to others is a choice, made easier by grace. Walking throughout our campus, it is very easy to see that so many students love their friends, teachers, classes and school. Next week, we will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week, and we have daily events planned to celebrate the Catholic formation of our school. After thinking of ways for our parents to also support our school, we decided to launch our St. Peter Catholic School Fan Shirts. These are great shirts designed by our staff for our families to represent St. Peter. As our students already have spirit shirts, these fan shirts are for everyone else to show spirit parents, staff, grandparents, etc You can find more information attached with this newsletter and at our office. Thanks again for all your support to our school. We love our families, and we love ministering to your children every day. God alone, Michael Kraus Registration for Registration for the school year is this week. Information was ed to all families last week. In order to register for the upcoming year, all accounts must be current. This includes tuition, aftercare and cafeteria. SIBLINGS OF CURRENT STUDENTS who plan to attend St. Peter School for the school year: Please fill out the application online at stpetercov.org. PRINT a hard copy and submit it electronically. Then return the hard copy with the supporting documents by this Friday, January 29th. If you need to apply for tuition assistance, please complete the paperwork on tads.com by April 8th. 2 Academic Accolades Suzanne Roth, Dean of Academics Fourth graders watched a presentation given by Rose Angelocci from the UNO Training, Resource, and Assistive-technology Center (TRAC). TRAC houses a variety of assistive technology to address the needs of individuals experiencing visual, hearing, physical, or learning challenges. Seventh grade dissects owl pellets. After reading Follow My Leader, our students were able to have some hands-on experience, ask questions, and learn a lot about what it means to be visually challenged. Many assistive devices were shown, including an example of how someone visually challenged can enjoy a movie like the LION KING by descriptive narrative! Ms. Richaud s PreK class investigates dinosaur fossils. Mrs. Johnson teaches her computer students... Don t forget the space after a period. The Art Department is collecting clean egg shells and magazines! When you are cooking, please consider taking a few extra minutes to carefully crack just the top of the egg to get the egg out. Then rinse the inside of the egg and donate the clean, dry shells to the Art Department. The Art Department is also in need of old, school-appropriate, magazines. Would you like to be part of this charitable cause on a deeper level by helping sort, pack, and mail the care packages to our soldiers? You are invited to join other volunteers on Wednesday, February 10 (Ash Wednesday), from 8:00 A.M. 11:00 A.M., at Fort Knox Storage located at 2649 N. Causeway Blvd. in Mandeville. This is another wonderful service hour opportunity, and it is a corporal work of mercy! Thank you to all of our very generous families for donating so much to Operation We Care. Thanks to the generosity of our students, they will be able to assemble many care packages for our soldiers. Students who donated at least 3 items will have a free dress day next Tuesday, February 3rd.

St. Peter School Band New Year Concert Thursday, January 28th 7:00 pm in the cafeteria St. Peter Baseball & Softball Tryouts 6th Grade Boys: February 1st & 2nd at 5:00pm on Field 3 at Coquille Baseball tryouts are open to all 6 th grade boys. Please make every effort to attend both tryout dates. The boys should wear baseball pants, bring a glove and be ready to play. Congratulations to the Rock n ettes on their Competition Success The St. Peter Rock n ettes Dance Team traveled to Southeastern Louisiana University and competed in the UDA Louisiana State Dance Competition. The girls won: 1 st Place for their Pom routine 1 st Place for their Kick routine The Rock n ettes also traveled to Lafayette and competed in the American All-Star Louisiana State Competition. The St. Peter Rock n ettes are moderated by Mrs. Lauren Johnson. In their Division, the team won: 2 nd place in High Kick 2 nd place in Pom 1 st place in Prop/Novelty The team also won: 4 th place overall in High Kick 4 th place overall in Pom 1 st place overall in Prop/Novelty making them the State Champions in Prop/Novelty The Choreography Award for their Prop/Novelty routine

Cafeteria Help Needed Our cafeteria is in need of some volunteer servers for lunch. If you would like to help out, please contact Mrs. Bardy at Servers are needed every day from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Cheerleader Sucker Sale When Pope Francis announced the Jubilee Year of Mercy, he said that mercy lives in everyone s heart. Fill out a form ($1 per sucker) and share your heart with someone at St. Peter School. Thank you for supporting our St. Peter Cheerleaders. Deadline for sucker orders is Friday, January 27th. Suckers will be delivered on Thursday, February 4th and Friday, February 5th Cheer, Dance & Spirit Squad Informational Meeting Thursday, February 4th from 5:30-6:30 pm in St. Mary s Hall Cheer and Dance Teams are for rising 6th & 7th graders. Spirit Squad is for rising 5th graders.
