Tafod Twrog Rhif/No 73 April/Ebrill May/Mai June/Mehefin 2018 Ficer/Vicar Canon Bryan Witt B.D Darllenydd Lleyg / Lay Reader Mrs Jean Voyle Williams M.B.E., B.Ed /

Annwyl Ffrindiau 1 Y Ficerdy, Llanddarog Wrth eistedd wrth fy nesg a gweld eira ar y llawr a theimlo gwynt oer y dwyrain yn chwythu, mae ysgrifennu am ddiwedd y Gwanwyn a dechrau r Hâf, y misoedd sy n gysylltiedig a r Rhifyn nesaf o Tafod Twrog yn rhyfedd. Efallai fod gennym rhywbeth i edrych ymlaen ato wrth feddwl am wres yr haul a dyddiau hirach. Ond nid oes efallai amdani, mae pob un ohonom yn edrych ymlaen. Ond rhaid cofio bod edrych ymlaen yn rhywbeth y mae pob Cristion yn ei brofi, ac edrych ymlaen mewn gobaith yw r hyn sydd rhaid i ni ei wneud. Mae Dydd y Pentecost, y Sulgwyn, eleni ar Ddydd Sul 20fed o Fai a mae y rhodd o r Ysbryd Glân a dderbyniodd disgyblion Iesu ar yr ŵyl hon, yn ein hatgoffa o u hawydd i edrych ymlaen, ond yn fwy pwysig na hynny, y nerth i edrych ymlaen mewn gobaith.yn yr Hen Destament mae Ysbryd Duw yn rhoi bywyd newydd i r esgyrn sychion sy n gorwedd yn y dyffryn. Mae yna stori am gurad ifanc, newydd ei ordeinio, a oedd yn ceisio esbonio mewn gwasanaeth yn ysgol y pentre, bod Yr Ysbryd Glân ym mhob man. Ond nid oedd yn gwneud yn rhy dda. Fel aer awgrymodd un ferch fach a hynny yn bodloni pawb.yn yr Hebreaid yr un yw ysbryd, aer, ac anadl. Lle mae r Ysbryd (aer) mae yna fywyd, lle mae bywyd mae yna Ysbryd. Roedd bywyd disgyblion yr Iesu a r Apostolion wedi cael eu hadfywio trwy rhodd yr Ysbryd Glân wrth Dduw. Darllenwn yn Actau r Apostolion: Yr oedd Pedr ac Ioan yn mynd i fyny i r deml ar gyfer yr awr weddi. Ac yr oedd rhywrai n dod â dyn oedd yn gloff o i enedigaeth, ac yn ei osod yn feunyddiol wrth borth y deml, i erfyn am gardod. Pan welodd hwn Pedr ac Ioan ar fynd mewn i r deml, gofynnodd am gardod. Syllodd Pedr arno, a dywedodd, Arian ac aur nid oes gennyf; ond yr hyn sydd gennyf, hynny yr wyf yn ei roi iti; yn enw Iesu Grist o Nasareth, cerdda.cododd y dyn a cherdded i mewn i r deml gan foli Duw. Cyn derbyn rhodd yr Ysbryd Glan ar y Pentecost ni fyddai hyn wedi bod yn bosibl. Roedd Pedr wedi darganfod ei ddewrder, y bywyd a oedd ynddo. Roedd ei anadl, aer a i Ysbryd wedi gwneud gwahaniaeth. Gall yr un peth fod yn bosibl i ni. Gadewch i ni felly edrych ymlaen, nid yn unig at ddyddiau cynhesach, hirach, ond hefyd i dderbyn rhodd Ysbryd Glân Duw a fydd yn anadlu aer a bywyd newydd i bob yr un ohonom. Wedyn fel yr esgyrn sychion yn y dyffryn, gallwn fyw ein bywydau, ac y modd mae Duw wedi ein creu i wneud, ac fel Pedr i ddangos dewrder i gynnig Iesu Grist i rhai yr ydym yn eu cwrdd. Gallwn wneud hyn yn syml trwy esiampl o fywyd Duwiol. Gadewch i ni weld pa wahaniaeth gallwn ni ei wneud! Pob Bendith Canon Bryan

The Vicarage, Llanddarog Dear Friends Sitting at my desk with snow on the ground outside and a bitterly cold east wind blowing, it seems surreal to write about the late spring and early summer that this Tafod Twrog is covering. Perhaps there is some comfort in looking forward to warm sunshine and longer days I suspect there is no perhaps about it yes we are definitely looking forward. Of course, it is worth remembering that looking forward is very much a Christian s experience. And to look forward in hope is what we must do. The Day of Pentecost, Whitsunday, is on Sunday 20 th May and the gift of the Holy Spirit coming on those first disciples of Jesus on that day gave them the desire to look forward and more importantly the strength to look forward in hope. In the Old Testament the Spirit of God gives new life to the dry bones lying in the valley. The story is told of one young recently ordained curate who was trying to explain in an assembly at his village school that the Holy Spirit was everywhere. But he wasn t doing very well. Like air one little girl suggested, which seemed to satisfy everyone. In Hebrew spirit, air and breath are all one word. Where the Spirit (air) is, there is life, so wherever there is life there is the Spirit. And the life of those early disciples and apostles was certainly brought to new life by the Holy Spirit of God. We read in the Acts of Apostles that Peter and John were going up to the Temple to pray. A man lame from birth was being carried for healing at the Temple gate, and he asked Peter for alms. Peter turned to him and said, I have no silver or gold, but I give you what I have, in the name of Jesus of Nazareth, walk and the man leapt up and walked in to the Temple praising God. Before the gift of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, this would not have been possible. Peter had found his courage, the life within him, his breath, air and Spirit had made such a difference. And so it can be for us. Let us look forward, not only to warmer, longer days, but also to receiving the warming gift of God s Holy Spirit which breathes air, and new life into each and every one of us. Then like the dry bones in the valley, we can live out our lives as God created us to do and like Peter have the courage to offer Jesus Christ to those whom we meet. We can do this simply by example of a Godly life. Let s see what a difference we can make! Every Blessing ************************* 2 Canon Bryan

Editorial Many thanks to those who volunteered this quarter to help put together this Parish Magazine. It has helped so much to know that people are willing to volunteer their help with this it has eased the load! A special thank you too to those who have sent in articles the work of doing the Lord s work continues in China for Rosemary s family as it does in Kosovo and at home for Kate and Rob s family. We hope you enjoy the story of their adventures. Mothers Union goes from strength to strength with more members joining. We welcome those who have joined us and hope that they will enjoy our meetings and our visits. Mothers Union do so much around the world to help families in one way or another. Its not only those overseas who benefit from the fundraising that we undertake - even in our own diocese there is an opportunity for those who cannot afford holidays to have a week in a caravan at one of our local beauty spots. Knit and Natter still meet regularly and don t forget if you don t knit you can always come for a natter! And we are enjoying our Paned a Chlonc after the Tuesday services. For times and dates see the Dates for your Diary). A slight change from the way we publish Tafod Twrog is that we are folding the readers and sidespersons rota separately as many of you have asked for this so that you can pin it up on your notice boards at home. I hope this works better for all. But remember, the readers and sidespersons rota only covers our Sunday services a and so much more goes on in the church, so keep an eye on the Dates for your Diary in the centre of Tafod Twrog for other services and events. Articles for the next edition by 8 th June at the latest please. Margaret Rees, Ty r Llain reesmargaret@outlook.com / ********************** Blodau Allor ~ Altar Flowers Ebrill / April 1 & 8 Mrs D. 5 HAPUSRWYDD A THRISTWCH JOYS AND SORROWS It is with a heavy heart that, due to the new legislation on data protection that is coming into force in May this year, we have decided not to publish the baptisms, marriages, and birthdays in Tafod Twrog as it is so widely published. We will be required to have the written permission of all who are mentioned for the specific purposes we intend to use their details for each publication. This is simply not feasible given volunteers undertake the work of publishing Tafod Twrog. From now on we will be asking all contributors to ensure they have the permission of any person they mention in their articles. We regret having to do this but we must ensure (and be seen to ensure) that everyone s confidentiality is maintained if they so wish. We will, however, be giving general information relating to how many baptisms, marriages and funerals are undertaken. We will also be re-wording the item regarding those who are sick in our parish. It is important to us that our sense of community remains and we feel this is the best way of meeting the new requirements whilst maintaining what we can. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oherwydd deddfwriaeth newydd diolgelu data ni allwn yn awr gyhoeddi manylion bedydd, priodasau a phenblwyddi yn Nhafod Twrog o Fis Mai ymlaen. Byddai n angenrheidol i ni gael caniatâd ysgrifennedig oddi wrth y bobl y sonnir amdanynt, sy n hollol anymarferol i grŵp bach o wirfoddolwyr sy n gyfrifol am Tafod Twrog. O hyn ymlaen bydd rhaid i bawb sy n cyfrannu erthyglau gael caniatâd i gan unrhyw buson y sonir amdanynt, cyn medru eu cynnwys mew erthygl. Ymddiheurwn am hyn ond mae n rhaid parchu cyfrinachedd y personau. Fe fyddwn yn dal i rhoi gwybodaeth gyffredinol am nifer y priodasau, angladdau a bedydd. Fe fydd fformat newydd i r eitem syn sôn am y cleifion. Hyderwn y bydd Tafod Twrog yn dal I wasanaethau anghenion y gymuned, ac yn cael ei fwynhau gan bawb. Bedydd/Baptism Yn y cwarter diwethaf ni fu bedydd / No baptisms were held in the church in the last quarter Priodas/Marriage Yn y cwarter diwethaf ni fu priodas/ No marriages were celebrated in the church in the last quarter. 4

Angladd/Funeral A funeral service was held in St Twrog s church on Saturday 27 January for Mrs Eiry Williams, 15 Cae Person. Cofiwn yn gariadus am bawb a fu farw yn ddiweddar; ac am bawb y mae tymor eu coffhad yn syrthio yr adeg hon o r flwyddyn. Bydded i r ffyddloniaid ymadawedig orffwys mewn hedd a chyfodi mewn gogoniant. / We remember with love all those who have died recently and those whose anniversaries fall at this time of the year. May the faithful departed rest in peace and rise in glory. Cleifion/The Sick Gweddiwch dros bawb sy n glaf mewn ysbryd corff neu feddwl, gartref neu mewn ysbyty. / Please pray for the sick in body, mind or spirit. Please inform the wardens if someone falls ill or is in hospital. Home communion can be arranged. Llongyfarchiadau/Congratulations Congratulations for special birthdays in the coming quarter go to Jean Voyle Williams, Caerwen Gibbard, Daphne Evans and Hugh Phillips; and to Yvonne and Bill Lewis who have a special anniversary in this quarter. Also we send our best wishes to Margaret and Gwyn Morris and Gill and Dewi Lewis, who celebrated special anniversaries in the last quarter. Thanks/Diolch yn Fawr Evelyn Ransome would like to express her warmest appreciation for all the special cards and good wishes she received on her 90 th birthday in February. For it is in giving that we receive Francis of Assisi. Diolch yn fawr iawn / A big Thank You As a community we thank you Joan for being our local hairdresser for over 40 years. You took a big risk when you crossed that bridge to make your home in Wales in the late 1970 s (which at the time was to be a temporary move), but there was no going back, as you were intrigued by the characters you met and the strange language that the majority spoke. My late father used to say at the time who would think that Llanddarog would have a cockney as a hairdresser and that even Plaid Cymru followers supported her. We are so grateful that you stayed, and we thank you for serving the community so faithfully and supporting so many organisations with raffle prizes, donations etc. The time has come for you to hang up your scissors but we hope that the tongue will still work at a hundred percent as we look forward to many years of listening to your entertaining stories. In Joan s you didn t only get a hairdo, you also had a tonic. We wish you a long and healthy retirement. Diolch yn fawr iawn Joan. Jean Voyle Williams 5

We have recently received this from our Insurers and thought it worthwhile to pass on the offer to all those who read Tafod Twrog. 6

A Food Bank at Christmas Our eldest daughter, Bethan, lives in London and manages to get down to spend time with us once in a while. Last year she didn t arrive home for the festive season until late on Christmas Eve. The article below explains why. Rob & Kate Jones This year, for the second time, I delayed coming home for Christmas by a day to volunteer at a food bank in South London. Set up by the Trussell Trust, the food bank is located in St Luke s church in West Norwood. For those interested in the experience, here s what it was like. The church is partitioned down the centre. To the right, behind temporary screens, are trestle tables loaded with mountains of donations. To the left, a waiting area, already full when I arrive. There is tea, of course. Volunteers work in pairs, as a rule, and each pair receives an order to fulfil. The order sheet gives the number of male and female family members and the ages of any children, dietary requirements, and information such as whether the family has access to cooking facilities, or if it needs extras such as nappies and pet food. A corresponding list tells us the number/amount of each item to be given to different sizes of family. One small box of cereal, three tins of fish (at least two tuna), a packet of sanitary products per female as required, and so on. The packing begins: Into an assortment of cardboard and plastic boxes, trays and heavy duty shopping bags, go UHT milk, fruit juice, cans of meat, pulses, soup, toilet paper, pasta, rice, cooking sauce, tins of custard and breakfast cereal. One happy difference this year is the abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables. Coffee, sugar, flour, and washing powder are portioned out into sandwich bags. Washing up liquid and cooking oil are decanted into empty drinks bottles, carefully labelled. Some items run low. One or two seasoned volunteers in tabards run back and forth replenishing the tables with more stock from the shelves in the corner. Some run out completely. The odd randomly donated item is substituted: a jar of foie gras, apple sauce, or perhaps chutney. Because it s Christmas, each family receives a few treats: a Christmas pudding, mince pies, biscuits and chocolates. Families with children also receive a posh-looking advent calendar although it s already December 23 rd. As the food bank is a charity, a record has to be kept of all incomings and outgoings. Donations are weighed on receipt, and in order to balance the books every food parcel has to be weighed before being handed over. This leads to the biggest problem 8

with the whole process. There is only one set of scales, and it isn t long before the queue to use it snakes around the room. By the time an order is complete it is generally too much for one person to carry - hence the volunteers working in pairs. Trays and bags full to overflowing are shuffled and slid along the ground, while other volunteers clamber over and sidle around, trying to reach the jam or the eggs. Eventually we reach the front. The first order is weighed, logged, and the order number called out over the loudhailer (another new and welcome addition this year). A lady approaches. She has brought shopping bags and has a car outside. We transfer her order into her bags and help her carry it out. She is no different from us. None of these people are. Never were the words there but for the grace of God go I more appropriate. We accept her thanks and wish her a Merry Christmas, then we go back and begin to prepare the next box. The waiting area is still full! Bethan Jones ************************ "We all have our own time machines:- Those that take us back are memories. Those that carry us forwards are dreams." ******************* Clwb Iau Mags. Clwb Iau continues to meet once a month. The children all enjoyed the party games, dancing and lots of party food at our Party in the New Year. Thanks to the parents and helpers for the food donations. When we met in February we had delicious pancakes made by Huw and Jean, planted bulbs and thought of ways we could thank family and friends. The children also donated food to the food bank. Our Mothering Sunday Service was lovely and many thanks to the children who took part and the families who attended. The Clwb Iau will next meet on Good Friday for the Stations of the Cross Service at 1.30 in Llanarthne Church and 2 until 3 o clock in the Botanic Gardens. With thanks Helen, Maria and Sian 9

Mothers Union ~ Undeb y Mamau The Annual Dinner in January took place in The Falcon, where we enjoyed food and fellowship. February was the AGM, when the previous AGM minutes were read and accepted, officers re- elected, and Vilna elected as press officer. The various reports were given and the meeting finished with tea and chat. Jean, Margaret R and Barbara attended the Deanery meeting on 12 th February. The finances were discussed and members reminded of future dates. Officers were re-elected. Following the 11am Eucharist on Sunday 25 th February, members stayed behind for coffee and biscuits, before taking part in the MU Wave of Prayer, with our slot starting at 12.30pm. The Wave of Prayer is a daily act of intercession for the world-wide Mothers Union. Every 5 days it focuses on a different group of linked diocese, when members add their special prayers and remember our members across the world and the work they do in God s name. Elizabeth Wills put a whole new slant on recycling in the March meeting. It was not sorting the tins, plastic, paper, etc. ready for collection, but using what you could to make new things. In Elizabeth s case she used cereal and small pretty paper hanky boxes and bits of ribbon to make cards and cover old place mats. She also took some of the odds and ends that seem to accumulate at the back of drawers and cupboards, to an auction, with surprising results, which meant she could buy equipment to further her hobby. We all went home with an attractive recycled ice cream container for our small change, which we donate to the MU for their projects across the world. Dates for your diary Tuesday 10th April Thursday 10 th May Saturday 9 th June Join Llangunnor Branch at 7pm in the church hall to hear Janice Richards, an ex Garden Girl in 10 Downing St. Ascension Day. New members very welcome, enquiries to Jean Voyle Williams, Open Church Yes, it is that time of year again! The open days will start on Friday 4 th May, and finish at the end of September. Please put your name on the rota and give a few hours now and again to steward. Thank you. ************************ MYFYRDOD ERWAU`R GLO Gwahanglwyf ein hoes. Barbara Quick Gwrando ar Radio 4 oeddwn i, ganol mis Chwefror eleni, cyn codi`n y bore (mae Radio Cymru wedi cael ffleng ers sbel, mae arna` i ofn!). Roedd John Humphries yn holi rhyw sylwebydd ynghylch y cyffur newydd PREP, sy`n cael ei dreialu gan yr NHS, fel ffordd o waredu`r clefyd Hiv, a all arwain at Aids. Ar ddiwedd y sgwrs, dyma`r sylwebydd yn dweud, yn y ffordd fwyaf ffwrdd â hi, fod y cyffur newydd hwn yn argoeli dechrau`r diwedd ar yr hen dostrwydd milain hwnnw a gipiodd filoedd ar filoedd o fywydau, ifanc, canol-oed a hen, am ddegawdau. Serch yr eirfa ffug Churchill-aidd yma, onibai eich bod yn craffu wrth wrando, gallech hawdd fod wedi colli`r sylw. Ac eto, dyma un o ddigwyddiadau pwysicaf ein hoes. Mor bwysig, fel ei fod yn disodli`r llith genedlaetholgar roeddwn am gyflwyno ar gyfer mis ein nawddsant! Mae`n siwr bod nifer o ddarllenwyr Clochdar yn cofio`r arswyd a gerddai`r wlad yn yr 80`au a`r 90`au, ac i mewn i`r 21ain ganrif, wrth i bobl ddeffro i beryglon Hiv/Aids. Os digwydd i unrhywun amau priodoldeb y gair arswyd, does dim ond eisiau edrych eilwaith ar bropaganda llywodraeth Mrs Thatcher ar y pryd, yn ceisio codi ymwybyddiaeth a dihuno pobl i`w cyfrifoldebau. Peidiwch farw o anwybodaeth oedd y slogan wrth i Norman Fowler, y Gweinidog Iechyd, anfon taflenni a hysbysiadau i bob cartref yn y wlad. Symptom o ofn yw panig a rhagfarn, wrth gwrs, a chafwyd enghreifftiau digonol o`r ddau beth yma yn y dyddiau blin hynny. Mae gen i gof am weinidog yn pregethu un bore Sul yn y capel, a datgan taw barn Duw ar bechodau`r oes oedd y clefyd arbennig hwn fel petai pob anghyfiawnder arall yn pylu i ddim o gymharu â bod yn hoyw neu`n haemophiliac, neu`n gymerydd cyffuriau, neu`n 14

blentyn sugno. Canys dyna oedd y prif ddosbarthiadau o bobl a effeithiwd gan y clefyd Hiv. Wedi dweud hyn, rhaid hefyd gydnabod taw`r eglwysi oedd ymhlith y cyrff a ymatebodd orau i`r argyfwng. Bu Cristnogion unigol a sefydliadau crefyddol wrthi yn ceisio ffordd amgen i ymateb i`r argyfwng. Felly hefyd nifer o ysbytai oedd â chysylltiadau eglwysig, fel Mildmay yn Llundain, y bu`r Dywysoges Diana mor gefnogol iddo. Roedwn i`n byw yng Nghaerdydd ar y pryd ac yn teimlo bod rhaid, rhywsut, weithredu mewn modd gwrth-ddiwylliannol, oedd yn mynnu cydnabod bod a wnelo`r sefyllfa â chariad a chyfiawder Duw yng Nghrist. Ymunais â Llinell Gymorth Aids Caerdydd a threuliais rai blynyddoedd difyr iawn, yn cwnsela ar y ffôn yn bennaf, ac yn rhannu gwybodaeth. Mae`n anodd canfod hiwmor mewn sefyllfaoedd mor ddirdynnol, rhaid cyfaddef; ond mae gwên bob amser yn dod i`m hwyneb wrth feddwl am ein grwp hyfforddi. Criw cymysg oeddem, ac yn lled anwybodus am fanylion cyffuriau hamdden, a llai byth am y manylion rhywiol roedd disgwyl i ni drafod mor ddihid ar y ffôn. Roedd o leiaf un famgu, aelod o`r URC os cofiaf, y bu rhaid esbonio popeth iddi - popeth yn ddi-flewyn-ar-dafod - cyn ei bod yn fodlon ar yr hyfforddiant a symud at ei gwaith. Do, bu ymbaras a gwrido, ond pa ots? Roedd cynnig gwybodaeth, cyngor a chlust yn bwysicach na dim bryd hynny. Diolch i Dduw, erbyn 2018, bod yr holl godi arian, yr holl ymchwil a`r holl ymgyrchu wedi dwyn ffrwyth. Wrth feddwl am y rhai a gollwyd i`r dostrwydd Hiv, mae dyn yn ymwybodol o`r dioddefaint a fu, yn gorfforol a meddyliol, y dewrder, yr aberth a`r dyfalbarhâd. Ond nid rhagfarn a orfu, ac nid arswyd a gafodd y gair olaf. Siawns nad yw hynny yn destun dathlu, boed ar Radio 4 neu Radio Cymru. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ His Love God sent His Son to take the punishment For all the thoughtless, sinful things we do; Jesus gave His life because He loves us; His love is boundless, sweet, forever true. 18 News from China Stepping off the bus into the winter landscape of the countryside made us all take a deep intake of breath, first we are hit with the cold and numbing sense that only stepping into heavy snow can provide and then we are hit with the beauty of the landscape virgin snow stretching over fields only to be stopped when they reach the blue sky. Evergreens spread their branches capped with a heavy load of snow and there is a stillness and peace in the air. Today we are visiting Raindrops Kindergarten. It s our second visit. Over the summer when the weather was searing hot the Mobile Library Team put on a special fun day in the village, held in the Primary School yard. The Headmistress of the Kindergarten asked us if we could include her children when the team visit the school and how could we resist! This visit is special because we have a family member with us, Adam s mother, who we call Nai Nai, which is the Chinese word for grandmother on the paternal side. We are keen to share our life with her so that when we Skype and say we have spent the day at this school or another she can picture where we are and know something of the life we are so invested in. Soon the young children pour into the small yard, their round faces greet us cheerfully, some are brave enough to manage a small wave and squeak a Hello others just giggle shyly. The magic of the cold winter scene begins to melt away as we see the chilblains on the children s hands and their red cheeks bitten by winter. A trip to the bathroom reveals just how cold it is, the water inside the toilet is completely frozen and nothing happens when you turn on the taps. Mothers in the city become weary of the older generation reminding us to keep our children warm in the winter, but here, with no heating, I am reminded that keeping warm might make the difference between life and death. Whilst Adam begins teaching, Bella and I are very keen to take Nai Nai on a tour of the sleepy village. It s handful of farmers houses and tiny shop are a far cry from the city of high-rises and fast lifestyles. As we are heading out, the Headmistress spots us and decides to accompany us on the tour -although she takes us in the opposite direction than we had planned, we don t point it out. At first I am disappointed but after we have made general chit chat she begins to share her heart a little. As China begins to prepare for Chinese New Year, many of the parents of the Kindergarden children will return to the village for their annual visit. It s sad for the children, she says, that they seldom see their parents and can t really have a relationship with them. Most of the children are raised by their grandparents who remain in the village. The Headmistress shares with me that she is interested in new 17

teaching methods and values ideas such as learning through play, she really wants to make the kindergarten a happy place for the children, which is free from pressure. It s a hard balance to strike, she tells me, as instead of working with the children s parents she works with their grandparents whose ideas of education come from a different time, a different China. She believes she needs to educate the grandparents too; after all if they don t know how to play with their grandchildren why would they expect them to play at school? Although the grandparents hold true to their old beliefs she says, we must respect them. After the day s teaching is done we wave happy goodbyes to the children and teachers of the Kindergarten and go for that walk around the village heading in the right direction this time. As we walk past the Primary school gates the children begin to pour out hooting as they slip and slide on the ice and there is suddenly life, not just stillness in the air. We wave at the few villagers we pass, one elderly gentleman sits in his yard watching his chickens. We ask him if he sells eggs and his huge toothless grin tells us the answer. He beckons us into his house, its small with a mud floor and wooden beams. It has two floors, with the second being accessible with a ladder and housing their farming tools. His wife is making dumplings with the help of their teenage granddaughter, whom they are raising. We see a picture of Jesus on the wall and discover that we have found more family in this little village. How lucky we are to be part of this amazing family that transcends race, age and culture. Please give thanks for an amazing answer to prayer Tilly is now a British Citizen. Give thanks too that Adam has secured a new job and visa. The business is called Faithful Language school and is owned by likeminded locals. It has been operating for 8 years now and its primary focus has been teaching Chinese to foreigners. They now offer English lessons to local children and Adam will help devise new curricula and teach. Adam, Mim, Bella and Tilly ***************** Ty r Llain Open Garden On Saturday 2 June we will be opening our garden again to raise funds for St Twrog s, Ty Miriam and the Llanddarog Show. The entry price will be 3 as usual with children coming free of charge. Come and join us for a cream tea (or coffee) and spend some time in our garden, whilst also helping to raise money for good causes. There will be a guess how many potatoes are growing in the bucket competition, a raffle and a bric a brac stall too, so if its wet you can look at the garden from the comfort of our home!! Looking forward to seeing you there. Margaret and Peter Rees 18
