F u g e t t M i d d l e S c h o o l W C AS D Hello Fugett Family, Day of Service March 9 Students and staff will be participating in a day of service on Friday March 9. We will be completing a variety of service projects including making flashcards for inner city schools, writing letters to veterans, making greeting cards for children in the hospital, making posters and cards for Bringing Hope Home, and creating origami peace trees. We hope these activities allow our students to give back to the community in positive way. Volume 7 Issue 26 March 5, 2018 Course Selection Information The first window for making Course Requests Changes begins today, Monday, March 5 and will run through Friday, March 9. Beginning on March 12 through March 16 students and parents can access the Parent Portal for verifying teacher recommendations, elective courses and course requests changes (Second Course Verification Window). Please review all course requests carefully with your son or daughter. All requests to change teacher recommendations and/or elective courses must be submitted to your son or daughter s counselor between March 19 and March 23 (Second and Final Course Change Window). The course change/level waiver deadline is Wednesday, March 28. For additional information and course selection forms please visit our Course Selection Information Center on the Fugett Middle School website. Revised Parent Conference Schedule Please note that parent conferences scheduled for Thursday, March 8 will now begin at 5:10 PM and end at 8:00 PM. Thursday, March 8 th - Fugett Night at Panera Bread on West Chester Pike Between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m., present the flyer on the next page at the register either on paper or on your phone, and the PTO will receive a portion of the sales. There is even an option on the flyer for online ordering! Please note that the flyer is good at the register and online but is not good for in-store kiosk orders. Thanks for your support! The Cougar Cause and the West Chester Food Cupboard When school is not in session, students in need miss meals and strain the family food budget. Please consider placing some breakfast or lunch items in the blue bin in the Fugett front entrance to help our neighbors over the Presidents Day weekend. 7 Page 7 SPORTS IN THE COUGAR S DEN! Fugett Sports for the Week of March 5th Spring sports will begin in early March! Students will need a PIAA physical to participate and should listen for announcements from coaches about start dates and times. Head coaches of Spring Sports: Baseball: Jeff Conner jconner@wcasd.net Softball: Lindsay Wilson lwilson@wcasd.net Track: Reggie Washington rwashington@wcsad.net Girls lacrosse: Kelly Miller ksmiller@wcasd.net Students and Parents should be reminded that the expectation of a student athlete has always been that they are ambassadors of the school and represent the school when traveling to an away game. For the safety of all students and for the image that, as a school, Fugett wants to portray to others, any misbehavior on the bus or at an away game will not be tolerated and there will be consequences for poor student behavior. Fugett students have been regarded as exceptional young men and women who treat others with respect and exhibit good sportsmanship. We do not want to tarnish this image.

Musical words in our everyday lives Monday, March 5: Melodious Adjective meaning related to a musical theme or melody and also means having a sweet-sounding and musical quality as in she has a melodious voice. Tuesday, March 6: Timbre (pronounced tam-ber ) Noun meaning the characteristic quality of sound produced by a particular instrument or voice; tone color. The word timbre is used in descriptions of pitch and loudness acoustics and of speech qualities in phonetics. Wednesday, March 7: Intonation Noun meaning the manner of producing musical tones, specifically the relation in pitch of tones to their key or harmony. The term intonation also refers to the pattern or melody of pitch changes in connected speech, especially the pitch pattern of a sentence, which distinguishes speakers of different languages. Thursday, March 8: Harmony Noun meaning the simultaneous combination of tones, especially when blended into chords pleasing to the ear; chordal structure, as distinguished from melody and rhythm. In everyday life the word means agreement; accord; or harmonious relations. Friday, March 9: Accidental Adjective relating to or indicating sharps, flats, or naturals in music. In everyday life it means happening by chance or accident; not planned; unexpected.

9 Page 9 Special Announcements FMS Day of Service Students and staff of FMs will be participating on day of service on Friday March 9 th. Any interested 8 th grader should turn in his or her permission slip as soon as possible.

TRACK AND FIELD TENTATIVELY BEGINS MARCH 14TH. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN JOINING THE TEAM, PLEASE SEE MS. HUGHES OR MR. WASHINGTON TO SIGN UP. YOU WILL NEED A PIAA PHYSICAL (FOUND HERE) AND AN EMERGENCY BLUE CARD TO TRYOUT. DRESS IN YOUR P.E. UNIFORM OR SIMILAR DRESS. THE WEATHER HAS BEEN SLIGHTLY CHILLY OR DOWN RIGHT COLD, SO BRING A SWEAT SUIT OR OTHER CLOTHS TO STAY WARM (HATS, GLOVES, AND TIGHTS). WE WILL BE GOING OUT TO THE TRACK IF WEATHER PERMITS. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR EMERGENCY BLUE CARD OR PIAA PYHSICAL TURNED INTO ONE OF THE COACHES. PRACTICE WILL BEGIN AFTER SCHOOL AND END AT 4:OO. HAVE YOUR RIDES HERE AT 4:15. Attention 6 th Grade Parents/Guardians The 6 th Grade will be visiting the Philadelphia Zoo on Monday, May 14 th. Sixth grade students received permission slips late last week. Please have your child return the permission slip and fee to his/ her homeroom teacher by Friday, March 16 th. The 6 th Grade teachers are looking forward to a fun-filled day at the zoo with your child!
