All-around qualifiers will practice with her assigned team. Two practice sessions will be conducted. Each will be one hour and 40 minutes in length (20 minutes for stretching and 20 minutes per event). 8 PRACTICE & WARM-UP SCHEDULE (CONTINUED) SATURDAY, APRIL 14 th Day of Competition One warm-up session will be conducted and will be 17 minutes per event preceded by a 15-mintue stretching period. Each team will begin the warm-up session on the same event on which it will begin the competitive rotation and will follow Olympic Order. The warm-up for bars and beam will be handtimed at the event. As competitors arrive at each event for competition, each team will be allotted a three-minute touch warm-up with a minimum of two vaults per gymnast (including an alternate); the all-around competitor will take her own 30-second touch warm-up after the team s. On the vault and floor only, the all-around competitor may add her own 30-second touch to the team s three minutes and warm-up with the team. In addition, any event specialist may take her 30-second touch warm-up after the all-around competitor. 9 HOTEL INFORMATION Fifteen (15) non-smoking rooms (mostly doubles) have been reserved for each team at the hotel listed below. It is each institution s responsibility to confirm the hotel reservations and provide rooming lists for the hotel. An institution is not obligated to stay at the designated property; however, it is responsible for canceling its reservations and then securing its own accommodations. If an institution prefers to stay in another hotel, must: a. Obtain a release for the rooms from the hotel manager; or b. Use the rooms for persons accompanying the official traveling party. The competing institution is responsible for the first night s room charges even if it fails to use those rooms. If an institution fails to make satisfactory arrangements for use of rooms with the hotel, full charges for the rooms will be billed to the institution. If an institution chooses not to stay at the headquarters hotel, it must notify the meet director of the property in which it is staying, in case it is necessary to reach the institution during the competition. 10 PARKING/TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION Teams and Officials All Team and Official Vehicles will park in the lot behind Haas Pavilion. The entrance to this lot is off Fulton on Frank Schlessinger Way. Each vehicle will be given a permit to display in the windshield of the vehicle. The University of California, Berkeley is not responsible for vehicles parked in an unauthorized parking area or if there was a failure to correctly display the permit. Please contact Greg Desharnais at prior to the event if there is a need for additional passes. Team Buses Team buses may park along side of Haas Pavilion next to the loading dock. 13 CHAMPIONSHIPS ENTRY FORM & CREDENTIALS The championships entry form is available on the NCAA Web site at This form must be returned to Jeanette Morganti, regional meet director and D Ann Keller at the NCAA national office by April 4, Changes to the 15 student-athletes designated on the entry form must be made in writing to the meet director and in no event later than the institution s departure from campus. Please submit the enclosed Official Travel Party form located on page 31 in the back of this manual to Jeanette Morganti at by Monday, April 9, 2007 no later than Noon PST. Credentials will be distributed based on this list. General Policy An issued credential may not be given to another team member or individual. If a participant or staff member loses a credential, a fine will be imposed (the price of an all-session ticket) to replace the credential. The maximum number of credentials is as follows: Student-Athletes Up to 15 student-athletes will receive credentials that must be worn to gain entry to the arena and for access to the floor. Coaches and Support Personnel Six (6) coaches and support staff identified as representatives of the institution (i.e., athletic trainer, manager, graduate assistant, videographer, etc.) will receive credentials that must be worn to gain entry to the arena and remain on the floor. Administrator One (1) temporary floor-access credential for the institution s administrator. The administrator s temporary floor-access credential is for purposes of fulfilling responsibilities at press conferences and post-meet activities only (non-transferable). A temporary floor pass does not provide access to the venue. A ticket will need to be purchased. Individual Qualifiers Institutions with individual participants will receive four (4) non-participant credentials. One additional temporary floor-access credential may be issued to an administrator upon request. A temporary floor pass does not provide access to the venue. A ticket will need to be purchased. Sports Information Director One (1) floor-access credential (non-transferable). This will be requested through and issued by the media coordinator. Team Physician A temporary floor pass may be issued to a team physician as requested on the entry form. A temporary floor pass does not provide access to the venue. A ticket will need to be purchased. Photographers/Videographers Two (2) Photographers/videographers from a legitimate media outlet or participating institution, will now be handled through media relations and deleted from the team list. The photographer can cover the event from an area(s) designated by the host institution. For the videographer to film from the team corral, he or she will need to be included as part of the 21 permitted in the team corral. 13

14 CHEERLEADERS/MASCOTS/BANDS/BANNERS Band members, not to exceed 25, who are in uniform and performing at the championships, will not be charged admission to the competition. The host institution must designate seating off the competitive floor. Bands, or any component thereof, may play only during the 15 minutes before the competition when the floor is cleared, the 3-minute touches, and 15 minutes following the awards ceremony. In the event there is more than one band, the meet director will divide the 15 minutes and the 3-minute touches equally among the bands. The host will play last with all others performing in alphabetical order. The band MAY NOT interfere with the announcer. FIGHT SONGS MAY NOT BE PLAYED DURING THE 3-MINUTE TOUCHES. Any banners other than the approved NCAA and television and radio banners may not be posted on arena walls without the permission of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Committee or its designated representative. Hand-held team banners are permissible as long as they do not interfere with the competition or view of spectators. Banners advertising equipment or manufacturers are prohibited. Participating institutions must notify the host institution whether or not it will bring a pep band and/or cheerleaders no later than April 10 th. DRUG TESTING Student-athletes who compete in this championship may be subjected to drug testing in accordance with Bylaws and , and may be determined to be ineligible as a result thereof. Only studentathletes who have consented in writing to such testing are initially eligible for this championship, and thereafter, student-athletes who are tested shall remain eligible only if they test negative. All NCAA championships are subject to the drug testing program; student-athletes will be selected for testing on the basis of place finish, playing time, position and/or random selection. The goal of the drug testing program is to provide fair and equitable competition for student-athletes competing in NCAA championships. FINANCIAL PENALTIES The NCAA Women's Gymnastics Committee may assess a financial penalty against an institution for failure of its representatives to adhere to the policies and procedures governing the administration of the competition. This includes failure to comply with the procedures and deadlines for submitting score sheets, schedules and entry forms for qualification and other materials necessary for the efficient administration of the competition. 14

MEDIA RELATIONS Publicity Materials For the Media Room, 50 media guides and post-season media guides (updated bios, stats, etc.) may be brought with the team or sent in advance to Kimberley Hoidal at: Kimberley Hoidal Assistant Media Relations Director 210 Memorial Stadium Berkeley, CA Media Credentials Press and photo credentials will be assigned to working press according to NCAA established guidelines. Media credential requests should be directed to Kimberley Hoidal (khoidal@berkeley.edu) by noon on Thursday, April 12 th. Pre-Competition Press Conference The pre-meet press conference shall be held on Friday, April 13 th. The pre-meet press conference should begin at 3:40 pm. The coaches of the six qualifying teams are to be present. One student-athlete per team also should attend. Athletic administrators from participating institutions also will be invited to attend. Post-Competition Press Conference Each coach whose team/individual has competed at the regional competition is required to attend the press conference to be held in the Media Room in Haas Pavilion ten minutes following the conclusion of the competition or the presentation of awards. Student-athletes who are requested by the media will be expected to attend. Coaches and student-athletes shall not conduct any interviews with media representatives prior to the scheduled press conference. 15

16 MEET FORMAT Competitive Rotations The NCAA office, to determine the competitive rotation of the team and all around competitors, will conduct a random draw. The six rotations will be as follows: Vault Bye Before Bars Bar Beam Bye Before Floor - Floor 2007 NCAA West Regional Women s Gymnastics MEET FORMAT TBD Rotation 1 Rotation 2 Rotation 3 Rotation 4 Rotation 5 Rotation 6 VAULT BYE 1 BARS BEAM BYE 2 FLOOR Line-Up Changes and Substitutions Changes in the line-up may be made before the start of an event by notifying the NCAA scoring director who will notify the scorer s table and the chief judge. Once a team begins an event (chief judge raises the flag for the first athlete), a substitute may replace a gymnast in that same position in the line-up by notifying the chief judge at the event, who will then notify the scoring table. The order of competition may not be changed. A gymnast who is removed form one event line-up may compete in other events. March-In Ceremony Teams will march-in and line-up in alphabetical order by institution, followed by the all-around competitor and/or event specialist assigned to rotate with the team. During the march-in, the name of the institution as well as each student-athlete s name and the head coach s name may be announced expediently. 16

17 MEETING SCHEDULE Coaches/Administrators General Information Meeting A MANDATORY coaches/administrators meeting will be held on Saturday, April 14 th at 9 am in the Mariposa Room at the Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center. At this meeting, the committee and meet director will review the format of the meet, opening ceremonies, meet procedures, etc. Coaches Sounding Board A general discussion/sounding board for all participating coaches conducted by the regional representative from the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) will be held immediately following the Coaches/Administrators General Information Meeting. MISCONDUCT Misconduct in an NCAA championship is any act of dishonesty, unsportsmanlike conduct, unprofessional behavior or breach of law occurring incident to, en route to, from or at the locale of the competition or practice that discredits the event or intercollegiate athletics. OFFICIALS All officials will be selected by the NCAA Women s Gymnastics Committee. The meet referee will be present at all practice sessions. OFFICAL TRAVEL PARTY FORM Please complete the enclosed Official Travel Party form located on page 31 in the back of this manual and fax it to the attention of Jeanette Morganti at ( ) by Monday, April 9, 2007 no later than Noon PST. Championship credentials and mementos and will be distributed based on this list. RESULTS The results of the meet will be verified by the meet referee and NCAA scoring director immediately following the meet. The results will be declared official 12 hours after the start of the meet. Coaches signatures are not required on the score sheets. 17

18 TICKET INFORMATION No complimentary tickets are permitted for NCAA championship competition. Tickets for the 2007 NCAA West Regionals are available through the official Cal Athletics website at or by calling GO-BEARS. Standard processing fees do apply on Internet and phone orders. TICKET PRICES (All seats are general admission) Adults - $10.00 Youth (K-12)/Student/Senior - $5.00 Each participating institution is guaranteed a minimum of 30 courtside seats and 60 additional seats elsewhere in the facility. Hunt Holsapple, in the Cal Athletic Ticket Office, will contact each participating institution s ticket manager to determine how many tickets it wishes to purchase. Those tickets will then be held at will call to be picked up by the visiting institutions upon arrival. Each participating institution must notify Hunt Holsapple (hunt@berkeley.edu) no later than 5 pm on Monday, April 9 th as to whether all of the tickets held at will call will be used or whether additional tickets are requested. After this time, each participating institution will be responsible for payment of the full number of tickets requested. Pass lists (including player name and guest name) must be turned into the ticket office 75 minutes before the competition begins. One the ticket office has received the list, no changes will be allowed. TRAINING ROOM FACILITY & MEDICAL INFORMATION Training Room The University of California has athletic training room is located along the north hallway in Haas Pavilion. A certified trainer will be in attendance during practice and competition, and a University of California team physician will be on call at all times. UNIFORMS & NUMBERS All competitors must wear exclusively the official uniform of their institution during the competition, warm-ups and during the awards ceremonies. Gymnasts on the competition floor for practice and warmup are required to wear one-piece leotards that include matching trunks and may include a matching sports bra. Swimwear is prohibited during competition. For NCAA regional and national competition, long-sleeve, short-sleeve or sleeveless one-piece leotards with matching (i.e., color of leotard or skin tone color) trunks are required. Gymnasts must wear leotards with straps no smaller than 2 cm. There will be no deduction for a matching sports bra that is exposed. For practice, shorts and t-shirts are not acceptable unless they are the institution s official uniform (e.g., all gymnasts have the same color and style). When a team (or individual qualifiers from the same school) is on the competition floor, the competitors must be in identical team uniforms. During the individual competition, individual leotards may be worn. Competition numbers assigned to each gymnast are considered a part of the official uniform and must be worn without alteration (e.g., folded over, cut, etc.) on the backs of all gymnasts practice and competition leotards and any other apparel during all practices, timed warm ups and competitive sessions. Two sets of numbers will be provided and MAY NOT BE ALTERED IN ANY WAY. A gymnast who does not conform to the uniform policies will be considered "out of uniform" and will be required to conform to the uniform rule prior to competing. VIDEOTAPES/FILMS/STILL PHOTOGRAPHS Institutions are permitted to videotape championships competition of their teams or their individual student-athletes for archival, coaching or instructional purposes. The videotapes may not be used for any commercial purposes. Each institution is permitted to use one camera and may videotape only that portion of the competition in which it participates from either the designated area provided by the host institution or from their respective corral during regional and national competition. Institutions may videotape from inside their corral provided the camera is hand-held or on a stationary tripod and does not obstruct fan viewing. For the videographer to film from the team corral, s/he will need to be included as part of the 21 permitted in the team corral. In most cases, photographers will be restricted to the seating area and will not be allowed on the competitive floor. Exceptions may be made for facilities in which the presence of photographers would not in any way interfere with a competitor's performance. Flashes or strobes are not permitted because of the proximity of the photographers to the competitors. Establish rules that are workable in the facility that will allow photographers to take good shots without interference of any kind. The host institution's sports information director is responsible for this area. In addition, photographers should be notified in advance of the ground rules. 19
