1 Footnotes OCTOBER 2016 VOLUME 29, ISSUE 9 OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE NEW HAMPSHIRE AMATEUR BALLROOM DANCERS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Hello Dancers This is my favorite time of year when the days are comfortable, the nights are cool and the leaves start changing on the trees. It s time for apple picking and pumpkin decorating and fresh harvest vegetables. Plan to attend our Harvest Dance at Academy on Saturday, October 15. Arthur Murray Dance Studio will be teaching a lesson before the dance and will also be performing a showcase during the break. Alpha Beats will be our DJ for the evening. On November 19, we will be holding a Giving Thanks dance. Bins will be available to collect canned goods and other non-perishables items for the NH Food Bank. The Dave Burbank Orchestra will be returning to provide the music and MM Ballroom will be teaching the lesson and performing the showcase. At our last event NHABDA celebrated its 29th year and National Ballroom Dance Week in style with a Roaring 20s Anniversary Party. There were festive decorations and elegant desserts and snacks which included a punch and a chocolate fountain complete with all the fixings. Most people dressed in the 20s style with many sporting gangster and flapper attire. During the break, Miah, Dannielle and Royal Palace students performed a showcase which included salsa, mambo, Viennese waltz and a group salsa rueda. The Dave Burbank Orchestra provided wonderful dance music all evening. Thanks to all who participated and helped make the evening so enjoyable. Over the years we have had some great leadership. The board would like to recognize all the NHABDA founders for their vision in creating the organization and all the past presidents and former board and committee members for their service and dedication. I would also like to acknowledge and thank the current board of directors for another successful year and for their continued support to the organization. Though not on the board, but nonetheless greatly appreciated for all they do, Happy 29th Anniversary NHABDA! are Joe Hannaford, Donna Green and Betty Ashooh. The board has already begun planning activities for At the November 19 dance we will hold our annual meeting to elect board members for next year. Any NHABDA member in good standing is eligible to be a board member. If you are interested in helping to shape future events and would like to be considered for a BOD position, please contact any member of the current board for more information. On September 11th the Outreach group danced at Salemhaven, Salem, NH before a crowd of 55 residents, guests and staff. On October 9 they will be returning to Pleasant View in Concord, NH.
