1 20th Anniversary THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE NEW HAMPSHIRE AMATEUR BALLROOM DANCERS ASSOCIATION Footnotes APRIL 2008 VOLUME 21, ISSUE 4 President s Message Greetings friends of NHABDA It s Saturday, March 22, and while writing this message, I m enjoying the sunlight that is streaming in through the windows. Unfortunately we still have over a foot of snow in our front and back yards. Our hilly road is the worst we ve ever seen it. Whenever anyone comes to visit us the first thing they say to us is when are they going to pave this dirt road? Our road is actually paved but you couldn t tell with the streams running down it and the asphalt all cracked. We re on the bottom of the town s list because nobody ever has to travel up this road except for the residents. Hopefully the frost heaves will disappear before we have to take our pop-up out for the camping season. What a great dance we had on Saturday, March 15th. We had 143 people in attendance and 20 of them are new members effective at that dance. (Welcome to our family!) I helped Betty out at the registration desk as my mom was in rehab for her surgery on her rotor cup. She s doing okay and is expected to come home on Tuesday, April 8th. Giancarlo Costa taught a great cha cha. I was unable to do the lesson but Betty taught it to us the next night at dance class. I love it. Thanks Giancarlo. The showcase that was performed was heavenly. Giancarlo is such a smooth dancer and dances with such style. So great to watch him. The Argentine Tango was a joy to watch as well as the Bolero and International Waltz. Looking forward to a return visit next year. Trilogy was a four-some that night. Great tunes were played all night long. (Al thanks for the cha cha dance with you. I m usually running around and Joe s up dancing with many of the women.) Thank you to everyone who participated in the 50/50 raffle. We collected $230. and a lucky winner went home with $115. and the other $115. was donated to Meals on Wheels. The second drawing was a free ticket to the 14th Annual Meals on Wheels Benefit Gala. Well, anyone who got up and did the swing to the Toby Keith (who?) song that we played, thanks for obliging me and mixing in a little country with your ballroom! The Outreach Committee performed at the Courville of Manchester on Sunday, March 9th. Thanks go to Marylin and Norm Therrien for filling our dance shoes at the last minute while the family spent the weekend skiing up north. Continued on page 2 WOOD FLOOR! 10,000 DANCE-ABLE SQ. FT. Not only do you get a great feeling after you ve performed for the residents but a 1/2 off admission coupon to any dance excluding the May Ball is given to you as thanks from NHABDA. Our next dance is Saturday, April 19th. Rico Barr is the band. We ll have a studio that hasn t performed for us in a long time Kathy Blake Dance Studio. The lesson is a rumba. Make those reservations early as I think this dance will fill up quickly. Please come wearing spring colors. We ll have flowers at the tables for this dance. Please remember to phone in or your reservations and if your Membership dues are $15.00 per person, per calendar year and are tax deductible. Feel free to give us your comments. As you read this message, I ll be in China or Hong Kong. Hopefully I won t come down with a bad cold as I did last year. The flights over are killer 13 hrs. on the flight from Chicago to Narita, Japan with a lay over there for two hrs., and then another flight to Hong Kong. Coming back isn t quite as bad. Hopefully I ll be well rested for the dance seminar on April 5th.
