4 Art Contest: Create an Ad for School Breakfast! You already know about all the benefits of a healthy school breakfast. Ask your students to share their take on why they love it by creating their own advertisement for breakfast at school! In the 2016 art contest, students will draw an ad for school breakfast, using a combination of pictures and words. Three national winners will receive special prize packs, and their ads will be published on the SNA website. Entries are due Thursday, March 31, 2016*! Download the submission forms below. Contest Overview You can hold your own Create an Ad for School Breakfast contests at the school or district level to narrow down your submissions. Each school can only enter three (3) entries to the national contest. All entries by students must be made to a local competition (to be organized by and held in schools). Please note that the only way to enter this contest is through a participating school, students cannot enter the contest directly or through a parent. On the official entry form, students should draw their ad for school breakfast. They need to include both images and words as well. The Cory, family in conjunction with the Hazard Kiwanis Club, PCC wrestling, and PCC JROTC, annually raises funds through the pancake breakfast and the wrestling preseason Nick Cory Takedown Tournament. The scholarship is in its ninth year and began by the faculty/staff of Perry Central and friends of Nicholas Cory who were 2005 PCCHS graduates. Tickets can be purchased from JROTC cadets, Kiwanis members, or Major and Mrs. Cory. Please support our effort to keep the scholarship funded. Thank you. 4

12 If you or your students have questions or want more information about the Air Force Academy, please contact your area's admissions advisor, as well as the Admissions Liaison Officer (ALO) who lives in your community for your school. The Nomination Process To be eligible to accept an offer of appointment to the Academy, applicants must be nominated by a legally authorized nominating entity. The process of securing a nomination is competitive and lengthy. It is recommended that students begin applying for a nomination at the same time that they are completing their Pre-Candidate Questionnaire. Read more about Nominations to determine the categories for which your students are eligible, then they should contact their appropriate nominating authority to make their request. Students should request a nomination in all categories for which they are eligible, and do so as early as possible. The deadlines of nominating sources vary and could be as soon as early September. Regardless of when they initiate their process, nominations must be received by the Academy no later than January 31. As a reminder, the application processes and deadlines are separate for the nominations processes and deadlines. Summer Programs Summer Seminar: Summer Seminar offers a unique opportunity to experience the Air Force Academy first-hand. It is specially designed for high school juniors heading into their senior year to get a realistic perspective of cadet life. Students will live in the dormitories, eat at the Academy s dining facility, explore the various academic/military programs and courses that the Academy has to offer, and participate in a variety of different physical fitness activities (to include a practice CFA). The application is open from 1 December 2015 to 15 January 2016, and it is free to apply. There are two sessions: June 2016 and June STEM Engineering and Construction Camp: This camp is designed to provide high school students with a world-class experience in STEM skills following a "Build the Design" model. This one week program is supervised and led by engineers and located at the U.S. Air Force Academy. The program runs from 7-13 July Summer Sports Camps: We offer Summer Falcon Sports Camps for student 8 to 18 who want to participate in numerous sports and are led by our very own head coaches. 12
13 13 Alumni Spotlight Jaden Ritchie, a 2015 PCC Graduate, recently participated in the Great Lakes Basic Naval Graduation. We would like to congratulate him on this achievement which is just one stop along the way of his Naval career. Currently, he is attending a corpsman school for the Navy which is a 14 week school where he will learn basic EMT Nursing and Battlefield Medicine. Then, he will be given the choice to attend a C school in which he will specialize in a field of medicine ranging from respiratory to nuclear medicine, go the fleet, or go to a hospital. We would like to wish him luck in the future and let him know we are very proud of his success. We look forward to hearing more about him.
