Introduction Every year Scouts from the Polaris District gather together at Camp-o-ree to compete with each other, meet other Scouts within the district, and, most importantly, show their Scout Spirit. General Information This year s Camp-o-ree will be held at Camp Chesebrough (26005 CA-9, Los Gatos, CA 95033) and we expect scouts to arrive on Friday evening to leave on Sunday afternoon. You will be assigned your campsite upon arrival as long as you ensure that at least one adult arrives on Friday for your troop s registration in addition to accompanying scouts and additional adults for your troop. Theme You have been summoned by the almighty Zeus to participate in the 2018 Camp-o-ree where scouts compete to win the favour of the gods. 4 Uniform Inspections Aphrodite (or others under her instruction) will inspect a sample of your troop for their elegance, with a preference of wearing your full Scout Uniform. Please dress appropriately for Saturday morning s flags where your troop will be the center of attention of the gods. Full Scout uniform is required at check-in, morning and evening flag ceremonies, and Scout s Own/Awards on Sunday morning. Scouts should wear activity uniforms any other time. Costuming is encouraged, but does not replace the uniform at check-in, flags, and Scout s Own. In addition, the staff can conduct water checks at any time and deductions maybe made for patrol members who are not carrying a water bottle. Staff For the entire weekend to run smoothly, many experienced Scouts are needed to staff the Camporee. Each Troop is highly recommended to provide at least 2 staff members. Staff members must be members of the Order of the Arrow (minimum Ordeal Member, newly elected candidates are not yet OA members). All Arrowmen who want to staff MUST attend the monthly chapter meetings to help plan for the event. 10 A-Frame Chariot Race- Patrol Events You are all Hoplites sent to fight against the Persians. At your encampment, bickering among soldiers from different city-states led to a large fight. One wise philosopher broke up the fight and proposed that there should be a chariot race to determine the strongest city state. However, since there aren t racing chariots there, you must carry your captain to the finish line with something else. Create something with your spears and rope that can carry your captain. Patrols will make an a-frame by lashing 3 staves together. When the a-frame is completed, the patrol will run a certain distance while carrying the patrol leader. Once the run is completed, the patrol s a-frame will be inspected for points and will then proceed to take their creation apart. Materials for a-frame are provided. 60 points Time (-6 points/minute spent) 10 points Spirit 10 points Teamwork 20 points Lashings Campfire Auditions- The gods look for talent, perhaps you will provide it for them. You may have a chance to prove your worth in the auditions, and move on to perform in the campfire. Please plan beforehand, there will only be a maximum of 30 seconds to make final preparations. The skit should last no less than 3 and no more than 5 minutes. Lastly, include as much of the patrol as possible, speak loud and clear, and remember to smile! 9 Rev. Final
30 points Originality 30 points Relation to Theme 20 points Participation 20 points Spirit Creative Shelter Building- You and some your comrades have been stranded after being separated from the rest of your forces. You would try to look for them, but night has fallen and in addition to needing a rest, your metal armor is inadequate against the cold. You need to quickly find a way to shield you and your fellow soldiers against the climate. You know that the enemy won t try to search for a few stray soldiers, so shelter is your first priority. Your patrol will construct a shelter in 10 minutes using materials provided on event day. There are multiple criteria to hit as listed below. 50 points Creativity 10 points Spirit 20 points Stability 20 points Size Minefield- Hermes is the messenger of the gods has decided that he wants to choose a champion to sponsor. However, he only wants a champion of great communication skills, so he has created a challenge for potential candidates. He to be crowned the champion messenger, you will need to get through his minefield. But there's a twist any instruction given by the guide must be reversed. One scout will be chosen to go through the obstacle course with a 10 Rev. Final
blindfold on, and another scout will be selected to be the guide. All instructions given by the guide must be in reverse, for example turn left would be turn right. The patrol can choose not to give reverse instructions in exchange for a lower maximum score. 35 points Time 25 points Obstacles Hit 25 points Reversed Commands 15 points Scout Spirit Search and Rescue- One of the champions from your troop has gone missing! You need to find your compatriot and ensure his continued survival. Prove to the gods that you are worthy of their boon, and don t force them to resurrect them or you may fail. Your task is to find the missing person as fast as possible, apply first aid, then carry him back to the flag meadow. There are 4 difficulties, and the higher the difficulty you choose, you will be awarded more points. 10 points Spirit 60 points Completion (60 for extremely hard, 50 points for hard, 40 points for medium, 30 points for easy are possible, not guaranteed) 10 points Teamwork 10 points Participation 10 points Carry Method 11 Rev. Final
Lava Walk- You and your patrol have become stranded in the Underworld! The only way to get through it is to cross Pyriphlegethon, the stream of fire in the Underworld which flows into the depths of Tartarus. Hades is interested in seeing how well you can think on your feet, so he has given you enchanted squares of an inflammable material which happen to float on the surface of Pyriphlegethon. However, each one can only hold at most two people at a time, so you must find a way to get everyone across without breaking the squares! Each paper can only support up to two people. Patrols must cross a certain distance, only stepping on the papers to cross. When a paper is down, at least one person must be standing on it for it to count as a valid standing point which others can step on. In order to move from one square to the next, you have to be grabbing onto another person for stability. If a paper has more than 2 people on it at a time, the paper is considered broken and can no longer be used (staff take it away) Max 6 people 60 points Time 15 points Buffer 10 points Spirit 15 points Papers at end Fire Building- Hephaestus forged a great many weapons and is looking for an apprentice. He looks for one adept at the flame, someone with a spark. Patrols will be given few materials and little time to create a fire. They must scavenge materials from the area around the campfire to build their fire. Then, they need to light the fire. Once a good fire is going, they will succeed. 12 Rev. Final

The commander has entrusted you, the descendant of Hephaestus, and your team of builders with the task of designing and building a small-scale catapult so that the army can construct new siege machines. Bean bags will be used as the projectiles. Only staves and ropes may be used to build a catapult. No springs or any other device that create large amounts of potential energy may be used. Troops may also use a small bowl or other small carrying device to hold the bean bag in the catapult. The catapult may only be launched by one scout using their own force or weights. Troops will provide all equipment. Catapults will be checked before they are launched to ensure that they are safe. The range will also be cleared before the launch occurs. Success will be judged on distance a projectile is launched. Catapults are to be constructed on-site 60 points Throw Distance 15 points Collaboration (teamwork) 25 points Quality (Stability, lashing, mobility) 14 Rev. Final
Creative Cooking- You and your city-state are about to go to battle, and you need the gods to bless you with victory. You must cook a meal worthy of a god to sacrifice to Ares, the god of war. However, this is no simple task. He is very sly and will only tell you his favorite ingredient a few minutes before you start cooking. He hints that there may be another ingredient you can use that he likes even more. Use them, and he will be greatly impressed and ensure your victory. If you don t, Ares will curse you and your entire city-state to an almost certain fate of annihilation at the hands of your enemies. Troop must bring their own cooking equipment, bring their own noodles (there will be deductions for not having noodles), 4 extra ingredients/toppings (water does not count as an ingredient), and any additional condiments. *All uncooked noodles are eligible. No instant or pre-seasoned noodles*. Each troop will have 5 minutes to prepare their equipment and 40 minutes to search and cook their noodle base meal (some ingredients will be hidden around camp). For each troop, there will be 3 cookers and 4 runners. Within 40 minutes, they must finish their meal, and once it s 40 minutes, they can stop cooking to gain full points. If they wish to cook/search over 40 minutes, they will have 10 minutes more, each minute deducting 2 points. 30 points Taste 20 points Presentation (bonus for theme relation) 20 points Spirit 20 points Creativity 10 points Secret ingredient Volleyball- Zeus knows that mortals have always wished to be able to wield lightning bolts like he does, and so he has arranged a way for you 15 Rev. Final
to get a similar experience in. You will be sending forth 6 champions to compete for the ultimate victory in a bracket style tournament, using the volleyball rules that he or his proxy is familiar with. In the bracket style tournament, each round will go on for 8 minutes and whomever has the most points in that time wins. Points will be given for participation in each match, with a bonus for the overall champions. 60 Points Participate in the first round 10 Points Participate in the second round 10 Points Participate in the third round 10 Points Participate in 4th round 10 Points Win Climbing- In order to gain more favor among the gods you need to bring offerings for them to a low height of Mount Olympus. Send forth three champions to ascend to this elevation carrying as many gifts as they are able to. Three scouts per troop will climb the rock wall carrying a balloon under their chin. The scout must reach the top of the rock wall without popping the balloon. Be warned, the scout is likely to have difficulty in looking up. While there is a time limit of four minutes per group, time is not the primary scoring category. Best 2 of 3 climbers will count. 10 Points Not popping or dropping the balloon (1 of 2 climbers) 20 Points Time (1 of 2 climbers) 16 Rev. Final
10 Points Reaching the top (1 of 2 climbers) 20 Points Spirit (Cheering) Archery- Artemis challenges all to an archery challenge. Marksmen must shoot a target with expert accuracy. Troops will send two archers to the range. Each archer gets one practice arrow before obtaining 4 arrows that count for points; each archer will shoot a total of 5 arrows. 10 points Spirit 10 points Buffer 80 points Accuracy (combined points from both archers) Odyssey Race- Odysseus finds himself trapped on Calypso s island and with the help of Athena, he must find his way out back to his nation and people. Your nation is slowly crumbling with enemies lining up to face you, and you must reach your nation in time under the constraints given to you. Different territories pose their unique challenges to overcome before you reach your town. Then, convince them to who you are with the final set of questions. Troops will select some people to compete in the race. The race has multiple sections which are split into a relay race. In the first segment, competitors will carry Atlas's weight. In the second segment, the same person from the 1st segment becomes the captain who will sit on a ship (an A-frame) and be supported by 3 sailors. In the 3rd segment, competitors find themselves in the Underworld where they must act like a Cerberus (explained at the event, like 2-legged race). In the fourth section, competitors will be given a passage and must find a word or phrase in it to unlock 17 Rev. Final
passage. The fifth section is a straight up sprint to the top of Mount Olympus. The door to Mount Olympus may require multiple people to open. At the destination, Penelope is trying to find her husband, and will pose several questions to see if you would know the answer. 10 points Participation 10 points Spirit 10 points Completion 70 points Time Scavenger Hunt and Find Calipso- Calipso hid many items around the island she was stranded in. Find the objects and if you re lucky, figure out where she resides. This event is styled as a scavenger hunt. See what you can find in the time before the end and gain points based on what you find. There is a race aspect to the finding of Calipso, wherein points are given to the first 3 troops to find her 40 Points First group to find Calipso 30 Points Second group to find Calipso 25 Points Third group to find Calipso 20 Points Any other groups which find Calipso 5 Points Per object found on list of 15 objects 18 Rev.
