Mt.Eliza (home) Fruitgrowers Reserve President s Report - Round 6 Well here we go again after the Christmas break. I trust that both players and supporters have had a good rest and a chance to catch up with family and friends. This is the business end of the season and each team is positioned to make the finals if every player gets behind team mates and supporters. On the social scene, the Christmas function saw the kids have a great time and as always, Santa was extremely popular. We also had an excellent crowd of adults who took the opportunity to catch up and have a laugh together. Ladies, get ready!! The Ladies Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 1 st. Last year was a roaring success and let s make sure that this year is the same. Make sure you mark this date in your diaries and get as many of your friends to attend as possible. Hopefully Gabby will be able to lead the way again. On the playing front, our 5ths are showing the way and are on top of the ladder. Steve Whittley returned to his glory days with a magnificent 114 no and was superbly assisted by Gavin Smith with a hard hitting 80. Let s not forget James Burton 57, Jarryd Wetzel, 51 and Beth Richardt having a ripper season with 4/9. 6/403 v Rosebud 172 is a massive result for this team. The 6ths are right in the mix, with Darren Gration continuing his consistent season with 85no and Mick Buckley 76 winding back the clock. Bubbles Phillips showed that his engagement didn t affect his form with a penetrating 4/29. Our 4ths are a young, developing team and under the astute leadership of Trev Parker are really putting the foundations in place for the future of our club. Trev with 41no, Cam Mills 31 and young tear away Ben Sherlock 5/23 ensured a great win over Mt Martha. With players returning, the thirds consolidated with a strong win and are a genuine chance for finals. Kyel Slee maintained his excellent season with a superbly crafted 75 and was well supported by Dashing Dougie Sherlock with 59. Lachie McGenniss steam rolled Balnarring to finish with 6/77. After winning 4 in a row, the firsts have conceded the last 2 games. We are still in a strong position, but clearly we need to win against Baden Powell. Encouragingly, Jack Kennedy continues to show that he can be one of the best players in the comp with 59 and Soppy had the opposition where he wanted them with 41 until his untimely run out. Kadda, with 4/67 showed that he was over his injury and that he will be a force after the break. Same with the seconds being in 6 th position, their destiny is in their hands. Matty Eager returned an outstanding 6/58 and Blacky did what we he does best with a quick fire 63. I am sure that everyone connected to the club would like to congratulate Gabby, Russ and Cooper Wilkes on the arrival of Chloe. Best wishes from all of us. On a not so positive note, great clubman Graham Cox sustained a serious injury at work recently. He slashed his arm from wrist to finger and was rushed to hospital to have it assessed. Coxy is as tough as an old boot and with the 5ths on top of the ladder watch him get back on the track sooner rather than later. Don t forget to look at the club web site. 3 Junior Cricket The second half of the season is about to start with some sides well placed to push towards finals. While most of us were confined to watching the Ashes or the T20 Big Bash there were a few juniors who played over the break in various carnivals. Jordan Young, Bailey White and Hayden Young battled for 3 days between Xmas and New Year for a spot in the 2015 UK Tour squad. With a mixture of weather conditions from rain on day 1, high 30 s on day 2 and perfect low 20 s on day 3 saw Bailey & Hayden bat and bowl their way into the side. Sean Parker will start his New Year season early with a week of VMCU u14 cricket. The Mid season report for some of the teams makes pleasant reading: Under 16 s find themselves sitting comfortably on top of the ladder after 6 rounds. The last round was an easy T20 win against Ballam Pk. Winning the toss and putting the opposition in, restricting them to 6/83. An easy chase with Bailey Henderson 50no enabled the side to reach 3/106 in reply off our 20 overs. The Rd 5 game was one to remember. Playing Carrum Downs at Jones Rd we were put into bat on a fine morning. At 3/60 the game was shuffling along like most others. Lachlan Young joined Cameron Mills at the crease and quickly were on top of the bowlers. The next couple of hrs saw these two smash the ball all over Jones rd oval to register a massive 247 run partnership. Lachlan 102 no and Cameron 98. A huge total of 337 off 45 overs. Under 14 s Provincial kept Skye to 5/57 off 20 and in reply did not loose a wicket in reply to make 89, with Sean Parker 31no and Bailey White 33no. After loosing the first 2 games in Premier the side has not lost a game since being moved to Provincial. They find themselves in the four with a big show of playing finals. Under 14 s Sub-district battled again for some points. They are batting out their overs now which is helping the cause. Best with the bat Aiden Holden 20 and solid contributions from Jack Illman 12 and Jay Holden 12. The u14 teams have combined for rd 7. Under 12 s Provincial had a great win going into the Xmas break. Batting first they amassed 4/97 with retirements from Spyke Mepstead 17no, Ethan Lyons 15no and Jamie Rutherford 17no. In reply Carrum Downs made 6/71. The win sees them just 1 game outside the four, with 3 games to play. Under 12 s Sub-district battled against Mt Eliza to just go down in a close one. Best with the bat was Marcus Mantell 15no. They are yet to register a win this season but all the boys have improved each game. Finally 10 of our Milo in2cricket kids were fortunate enough to be the lunch-time entertainment on Day 2 at the Boxing Day test. Trevor Priest I hear had them all under control.
