1 Newtown & Chilwell Cricket Club Celebrating 104 years TWO BLUE TRIBUNE The official organ of the Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club since October 16, 2014 Vol. 42 No 4 Bumble, Hubert and Bernard There are two English accents out on the field with the First XI at the moment, Daniel Lawrence s Essex one, and Sam Reidy s from ooooop north. Sam, who came to us from England via Little River, has a very solid cricketing pedigree. He played top quality cricket in the Lancashire league, where his sister Sarah also rates a mention on Cricket Archive for his work as scorer. Sam s father Bernard played with Lancashire as an all-rounder, alongside some absolute greats of the game, including Clive Hubert Lloyd and David Bumble Lloyd. As a 15-year-old, Bernard Reidy also came up against bloke by the name of Dennis Keith Lillee an experience still writ large in his life. Bernard will soon be seen around the rooms at Queens Park. Make sure to give him a huge NCCC welcome. And click here to read more about Bernard Reidy. This season AFTERNOON TEA for Seniors will be catered for by Florianne Cooper (Partner of Brendan Twaddle) and therefore you will only need to bring $8 and a smile of thanks. Please pass onto Captains as soon as you arrive. We are not quite sure what Graeme Taylor is doing here, but we have been assured it is of great importance to the cultivation of his hallowed turf. Keep up the good work GT! T20 Cup matches start next Tuesday October 21 st at 5pm when we play East Belmont at Winter Reserve.

The haul also eclipsed the Saints previous best of 11/75 by Adrian Kelly in against Geelong City. His record was also a timely one 25 years to the day that St. Josephs was elevated to 1 st.x1 cricket. A fighting century from Darren Kiddle (106) was his second career ton at Leopold. In a close encounter, Simon Steen (5/72) saw East- Belmont over the line, 9/218 to 215, Stephen Wells again dominant with 93 to compliment his 70 last round. Promising football central umpire, Brett Allen (78) in tandem with veteran Neil Alford (74) were the foundation of North Geelong s 4/179 to 5/110 win over Lara whilst Stephen Sutcliffe s double of 37 & 3/22 for South Barwon overcame Thomson, crashing for a mediocre 61,Peter Quick for Thomson sharp with 4/30 & 5/19. DID YOU KNOW? Geelong Footballers CC played GCA 1 st.x1 cricket for 14 seasons between and and comprised totally of players from the Geelong Football Club, winning 4 premierships over the period. However after winning the VFL flag in 1937, motivation to play cricket by the footballers was low and the club opted not to affiliate for the cricket season. However the 8 team competition continued as to overcome a bye, Newtown & Chilwell to their great credit fielded two teams in the 1 st.x1 competition. Known as Newtown & Chilwell B, it suffered many fearful slaughters and scored its lowest score of 26 against Geelong West with Bill Galloway recording 6/6, D.Farey treasuring his wicket and carrying his bat with 9no. Newtown propped up the inexperienced side by playing its champion batsman, to-be later GCA President Frank Just, the side winning the solitary game for the season just accumulating
