1 Newtown & Chilwell Cricket Club Celebrating 100 years TWO BLUE TRIBUNE The official organ of the Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club since April 23, 2011 Vol.38 No.16 The President s message We have just completed the first playing year of the revival of our club, and as you are all aware now we have performed well enough to hopefully put aside the treat of relegation for the time being. We cannot however rest on our laurels and expect that it will just happen that we will continually be free of this treat. It is with great delight that I announce that the same group that assisted the club to regain some of it's lost honour have been reappointed for the next two seasons. I speak of Bryan Thomas, Mick Wood, Don Royce and Ben Neville. Tony Jefferies who did an outstanding job as Junior Coordinator has not formally said yes yet but we are very hopeful that he will continue in the role. I think that he will need some reassurance that he will be offered more assistance next season. We must however continue to recruit good people who can also play cricket. This is an ongoing responsibility of all members, but we do have a small group of specialised warriors who will be working on this area of our club over the next 4-5 months. If you have a suggestion for a possible recruit could you please contact one of the following: Don Royce, Bryan Thomas, Mick Wood, Ben Neville, or Russell Mitchell. All successful clubs have an effective administration running it. There are areas in our club's administration that need strengthening if the club is able to continue at a high level indefinately into the future. There are many jobs around the club that may only involve a short time commitment but in themselves are important to the efficient daily running of the club. We need more people sharing these responsibilities so that when it is time for people to move on they are not so hard to replace. By the date of our next General Committee meeting in May - yet to be confirmed - maybe Sunday May 8 at the earliest - I would like to hear from players, past players or any friends of members who believe that they would like to contribute in some small way to the running of our club during the 2011/12 season. For your assistance listed below are some examples of the areas of responsibility that we would love to have assistance in. We are also open to your suggestions as to how you believe that otherwise you may be able to help. These are in no particular order; (i) A Representative on GCA Sub Committees such as Grounds, Pennant, General Committee (ii) Juniors (iii) Social (iv) Rooms - Complex management (v) Kitchen - Clare has agreed to do this for next season (vi) Bar - The club is prepared to pay for interested members to complete an appropriate course so that we can get more volunteers to assist on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings (vii) Secretarial (viii) (viii) Club Statistics - Junior and Senior (ix) Memberships (x) Past Players (xi) Over 60's

4 First XI Yves Roussety The 1st XI Captain s Award goes to Yves. Continues to work diligently on his game and is always first at training and understands the continuous efforts required to be part of a successful team and club. Never complains when batting line ups are changed and exhibits a real Newtown two blue character both on and off the field. Is always there putting the covers on and assists the junior program as well. Second XI Patrick Eastman This year s 2 nd XI captain s award goes to Patrick Eastman. Without doubt this year s award was as tough as it gets to choose as we had three outstanding contributors all year in Pat, Riley Ferguson and Alex Hickey whom all made my job as captain a real pleasure to perform. They are outstanding young cricketers on the field and even better young men of it. In a fantastic year for the second XI Pat s ability to do any job I asked of him at any time was a major reason behind our success this year. Pat had superb year with the bat making over 300 runs and scoring his first turf hundred. He volunteered to bat at #3 when many others turned it down. His rise up the batting border and his ability to score off the new ball quickly was something this team needed after many years of poor batting. He also took the gloves on many occasions during the year with great success and his rapid improvement behind the stumps is a vital asset for himself and the club going forward. He took many brilliant catches and dismissed Gary Kelson from Grovedale with a blinder such was his skill behind the wickets. Pat is also a fine bowler but he sacrificed this part of his game to keep and this type of approach typifies the person Pat is Team always comes first with Pat. He is a great team player who gives his all in the field who never stops trying. He is a very worthy captain s award recipient. Third XI Ben Eason My 3 rd XI Captain s Award for Season 2010/11 goes to Ben Eason. Ben has come along in leaps and bounds this season with his bowling, fielding and batting. He has become a regular member of the thirds team and I am hoping with confidence Ben can become an established all rounder for our club. His positive attitude and hunger to succeed and develop his game has been why this season Ben has won the Captains Award. I think once Ben realises his own ability with the bat and makes his first big senior score there will be no stopping him. Ben in the past has had injury concerns but this season in working with Bryan he has successfully worked out a way to regulate and keep on top of any injury concerns. This is a big tick to not only Ben but also Bryan in working with our young bowlers and developing a horses for courses programme to make sure our players are playing and not sitting on the sidelines. Well done Ben and I look forward to watching your career develop. - Frank Tuskes Fourth XI Adam O Connor I am awarding the 4 th XI captains award to Adam O Connor. As my unofficial vice captain Adam s support was invaluable both on and off the field. Adam not only assisted me with pre and post match activities but also offered many sensible suggestions during the game. Fifth XI Steve Lewis It is with great pleasure that I have awarded the 2010/11 Captain s award to Steve Lewis. Captain s Awards This recognition for Steve is a true reflection of the ongoing support, leadership and all-round qualities that he has demonstrated throughout the year. He has supported both captain & his teammates in all situations during the year especially in a year when we have had several younger and maturing players moving through our ranks and his cricket nous and calm nature are a positive influence in these nurturing and developing years for Newtown & Chilwell. Personally he has been a tremendous personal support to me and this award is a public recognition for the way he carries himself on & off the field. Well done on your efforts for this year and look forward to many more years of playing cricket with such a true gentleman.!!! Sixth XI Adam Patching Adam Patching has won the 6th eleven Captain s Award for season. Patch had a great season which has been acknowledged by winning the batting average in the league. One of reasons behind him getting the award was he was usually one of the first to the games helped set up, pack up and provided great support whilst out on the field took the gloves when asked and always remained positive when things were not going our way. Though the main reason he was chosen for this award is the way he has gone about making some important changes to his life which has entailed becoming a father, losing best part of 30 kilo's and looking to restart his footy career and hopefully pushing back up the grades next season. This is a major change to anyone's life and l hope that Patchy continues to show the maturity and strength of character which has helped him win this award. Nice one Patcho. Seventh XI Mark Kirkland Mark started off the season as the father of three junior players who volunteered to play in the initial 7th eleven. It took until the third round of the season (after 2 washouts) for Mark to join his three sons in playing their first official game together. As the season progressed Mark and his three boys effectively become the swinging players in our side i.e. they filled whatever gap was left over after other available players from above were first considered. Some weeks there would be 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 Kirkland's playing, and Mark had quickly worked his way to the top of our 'Dad's Army' list and played in 9 games. Mark only batted on 5 occasions, but hit the winning runs in two games - the significant game being against Highton in the second last round - the win made our place in the finals a distinct possibility. Mark bowled in three games and got 1 wicket. He did not get a catch but got a run out against Newcomb in round 3. For a man in his early fifties he is particularly agile in the field. I cannot remember one miss-field throughout the season. Mark willingly filled in the other gaps such as scoring and umpiring without being asked. His help on the night of the Centenary Dinner with sons David and Michael was much appreciated. A special photo goes with the Captains Award - The four Kirkland's first game together.
