1 Newtown & Chilwell Cricket Club Celebrating 103 years TWO BLUE TRIBUNE The official organ of the Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club since January 15, 2014 Vol. 41 No 9 An even performance, but odds are we have to improve The first round after Christmas produced what you might call an even performance, the twos and fours winning to put themselves on top of their ladders. The odds couldn't quite match their opponents, although the ones did pretty well before hitting a brick wall in the final eight overs. A bright note was a familiar one this summer, Dale Denny's excellent form with bat and ball. And Simmo felt an overpowering need to take to Facebook to tell the world about his bowling figures - two-for. In the twos, Rhysie Bennett kept his hot breath on the necks of the batters in the ones, setting up a solid win with the help of Dimma and the young'un Hosking. The threes had an off day and are doing what they need to do from here, look forward not back, or to use one of Goose's favourite lines, they have to forget about this result and remember to learn from it. Fours just keep on keeping on, batting on and bowling on, despite several line-up changes. The familiar name with the (c) beside it, the resident eminence gris, continues too be a steadying influence on old and new and young and old. Best thing Hick ever did was get rid of the product from his hair. Sav, those leggies tossed as high as he flies a 737, is back in from with the ball and "good" Greenie (65) a Tim Sando (48) put on 121 of the 148 required. The mighty folk of the fives and sixes return to their battlegrounds this weekend. As we weigh up the odds for the rest of the summer, let's all get to training and be ready, among the championship sides at least, for Murgheboluc - the first time the firsts have played them in game 999 for the one's in the great history of our club. And another milestone looms for one of Two-Blues greatest ever players, the freakish Ben Neville. Murgie, by the way, will be up for this game, with their new turf so close to our turf. We should treat them with the respect they deserve, earned as a going somewhere club over the past decade or so. But the most respect we must pay is to our club mates. That's the Newtown way. Country Week squad Congrats to Jack Wood, Dale Denny, Jamie Harrison and Justin Foss who have been selected in the 22 man GCA Country Week squad for the carnival February The lads will be aiming to make the final, this year to be played on the MCG. GCA T20 Cup semi final East Belmont and Newtown & Chilwell CC have agreed to meet in the semi-final on Stinton Oval this Sunday 19 January. Start time of 11am. See Specs Devlin for your ticket.
