1 Newtown & Chilwell Cricket Club Celebrating years TWO BLUE TRIBUNE The official organ of the Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club since. March, Vol. No. The finals campaigns continue Despite a few results last weekend not quite going the way they should have, Newtown and Chilwell Cricket Club still has five teams playing finals this weekend. The Seconds, despite a disappointing loss, have survived because of those two outrights earlier in the year to play South Barwon at Grovedale. The Thirds, against because of good form across the summer, also find themselves up against South Barwon, and again at Grovedale, the Secondary College. The Fourths, who managed a good win last weekend, play East Belmont, also in Grovedale, this time at Reserve Road. The Fifths are up against St Joeys at Carey Oval. The Cambridge Sixths are also playing St Joeys at Shaw Oval. And Stinton Oval will once again host a GCA Division One final, East Belmont against Geelong West, recognition of not only the ground and the wicket, but the work behind the scenes to be the perfect hosts. Playing in finals is no different to any other game of the year, except that it is. The butterflies mount up in the stomach. Every run, every wicket, every catch takes on an extra dimension. One thing that helps calm the nerves is the support of your club-mates. So if you re from one of the teams not playing finals this week, and to be fair it is only two sides, The Firsts and the Navy Sixths, get along to a game somewhere on the weekend. On Navy, they played their last game of the season last week on turf, thanks to the hospitality of Leopold. James Hadfield got a hattrick and Stevie Lewis produced one of the finest innings of his time at Newtown,, but alas, they fell a few runs short. Let s do everything possible this weekend to make sure our Seconds, Thirds, Fourths, Fifths and Sixths don t fall short. Good luck to Russell, Frank, Grant, Morgo and Twads and Marc and Specs and all their players. GO YOU TWO BLUES. Finals venues nds versus South Barwon at Burdoo Reserve rds versus South Barwon at Grovedale Secondary College ths versus East Belmont at Reserve Road Oval, Grovedale ths versus St Josephs at Carey Oval Cambridge versus St Josephs on Shaw Oval.
