NEWSLETTER From the President We can all look forward to the coming season with great expecta6ons. Not just because we expect (as we do) on field success but because we are entering another Summer period when we can all enjoy the fun and friendship that goes with being a member of the BCC. In the off season an enormous amount of work has been done by the CommiFee and Execu6ve to enhance our facili6es and to provide an even more enjoyable experience at Bentleigh. Off field we have been able in conjunc6on with BFC to provide Wi Fi connec6on, installa6on of a projector and drop down screen and new chairs in our main social room. The Club is in a sound financial posi6on and it is impera6ve that the members enjoy the rewards that go with that. The Club has recruited strongly with an emphasis on people with coaching ability. We not only have Chris Williams who stood out last year like a coaching beacon but we have other young UK players with coaching creden6als. We see this as an important step in providing all players with help to improve their game and therefore their enjoyment of Bentleigh. The major structural change we have implemented is to establish a Junior CommiFee to stream- line the Junior sec6on and spread the load of administra6on,management and coaching. The response of the players and parents has been fantas6c with a strong commifee in place under Steve McGuinnes as coordinator and Mick Foot as Secretary. They have plans in place to enhance the commingling of the Junior and Senior sec6ons of the Club. We have been at pains to stress that we are one Club and we are working to ensure that it works out this way in prac6ce. The great news is that we are able to field an U16 team for the first 6me in many years. The amount of work that has gone into making this happen cannot be es6mated. Needless to say we cannot rest on our laurels as the hard work must con6nue if our Junior Sec6on (coming off two flags last year) is to con6nue to flourish. There was a degree of disappointment last year when we fell away a lifle awer the break and narrowly missed the finals in the first eleven.this will make us even more hungry for success. Good luck to all and have lots of fun at Bentleigh Ronald Laird 1

Looking Strong in 2014/2015 Pre-season has been a slow and interesting build up to the onset of the new season ahead of us. Very mixed bag in regard to attendance at training. There has been a select few that have attend all sessions, and in all we had approximately 60 players training. The numbers swell a bit when the Saturday morning training numbers are added in. I don t like to single out people but I must make mention of Adrian McInnes, who attended all sessions. He also took charge of the training sessions and did a great job, when Greg Todd had to rush off to New Zealand. Thank you Adrian and trust that your training and playing performance bring you much success, this season. We have had Chris Williams and Jeff Keyt playing at Unsworth in the UK, both players produced STELLA seasons. Chris with and 71 Jeff and many catches and stumping s. Played as an opening batsmen / wicket-keeper. Rob Cicca, your job is safe. Daniel Clarke had a solid season over in the UK as did new boys Adam Herb Sutcliffe (Dunnington C.C.) and Ryan Maddock (Northern C.C. and Lancashire). All the lads playing premier league cricket, and in a couple of cases, county second eleven. We extend a very warm welcome to Roshan Livera, who has played premier cricket for St.Kilda, South Melbourne and last season in the subbies at Caulfield. Rosh is an excellent batsmen, handy change bowler and brilliant fielder. More importantly he is a strong character and will be a great asset, both on and off the field. We have James Maby and Ed Berger coming to play through the SportsLived sports program. Both James and Ed will be coaching at Camberwell Grammar, and while school cricket is being played, they will only be able to play on Sundays. Other new players include Tim Derose (played under 12 s 6 years ago) Andrew Grove, Damian Thomson and Rhys Trembath, who are returning after a year away. Also DJ who fractured his knee cap last year. I apologise to anyone I have missed, doing this report off the top of my head. For those that don t know as yet, Chris Williams who had a wonderful season last year with Bentleigh, has been appointed senior club coach. We wish Chris all the very best for the season ahead, and together with Captain Greg Inspector Rex Todd, our senior TEAMS are in great hands. To further re-enforce the solid leadership at the club Troy Gill 2nd Eleven, Aron Vanstaden 3rd Eleven and Dave MacNamara 4th Eleven, all bring their vast cricket knowledge, playing skills and leadership to the table. I m sure you would all agree that the leadership of the club is in good hands. At the same time, we acknowledge and thank the previous season Captains that have stepped down, but will be around to assist and pass on their experience and knowledge, both of the game and players. continued page 3 2

continued from page 2 We will be encouraging and pushing young players throughout our TEAMS. Captains will be expected to develop, nurture, encourage and provide opportunities for these players to perform. These guys are the future of the club. We all have had opportunities bestowed upon us, time for the younger generation to be given their opportunities to shine. Best wishes to all Captains, players, supporters, commitment members, junior TEAMS, coaches, parents, wives, girl-friends, yummy mummies and everyone that makes this club ROCK. May we all have great success and reward for all the hard work that goes on and around the place. Finally, a very big thank you to the executive members (plus Toddy) for great support in the off season. Great TEAM and proud to be part of it. Russell Keyt Director of Cricket Around the Grounds Congratulations to Lucas Jones and fiancee Michelle, who are expecting their first child in December and who will also be getting married. Congratulations also to Robert and Prue Ciccarella who are also expecting their first child in December. Happy Birthday to Life Member and Club legend Bruce Sherwood, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday. Congratulations to Ben and Kerry Russell on the impending birth of their second child.

Coach s Corner I would firstly like to thank the committee for the chance to coach the club this year. Coming from the UK, it was a bit of eye opener to see the intensity that all teams trained at last season, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting involved and progressing my own cricket. It s going to be just as interesting from my point of view to get stuck in to a few of you Aussies this year from a coach s position. One thing that I learnt about Bentleigh Cricket Club from last year, is that it s a club that is always looking to move forward both on an off the field. Therefore, I will challenge all players and teams on two fronts this season. Firstly, on the playing side of things, it is important for the club that we look to take our cricket into March this year. Each team should be striving for Finals. Once all teams got into their stride last season, our best cricket was played. A faster start out of the blocks, and returning from the Christmas break with an increased intensity should allow all teams to improve on last season. Secondly, after training sessions and matches, it would be brilliant to see more down at the club for beers and the usual cricket chat. This will only benefit the club and bring a sense of confidence and togetherness. I know from first hand that we see the best of the club captain after a Carlton Draught. *There are also other beverages available* See you soon and good luck to all this season. Willow. WiFi available Members and guests of the Bentleigh Cricket Club will now have access to wifi with the Club now offering members and supporters access to free wifi. The Club will also make the access available to opposition clubs so that scores can be updated live.

Bentleigh Receives Sporting Uniform Grant Bentleigh Cricket Club has been awarded a Sporting Uniform Grant from the Victorian State Government" In a letter received by the Club, the Minister for Sport and Recreation Damian Drum, wrote to Club Secretary Matthew Thorp to inform him that the clubs application had been approved in the recent round of the Program." The Sporting Uniform Grants program is funded by the Victorian Government and this grant goes a long way towards boosting morale, connecting communities and can play an integral role in motivating more people to get active more often." Bentleigh Cricket Club acknowledges and thanks the State Government for the grant and their commitment to local sport.

Juniors Teams in every grade I would firstly welcome all the returning players and new players to the start of this season. This season has had an amazing start with the formation of the junior sub committee. Michael Foot the junior secretary, Steve Grogan the social co- ordinator, Jason Abraham, Chris Meister, Alan Glenton, Aaron Todd, Dave Mullane and our photographer Paul Yue make up the committee with help from a few others as well. I thank these committed people for giving up there time for the betterment of the junior program. This year will see us hopefully have 5 stand alone sides. A rookies side, 2 u12sides, u14 side and an u16 side. Last season we didn't have an u16 so well done to Dave and the u14 premiership boys for stepping up yet again. Let's hope we can get another premiership out of our junior this season. Finally well done to Mick Foot on the excellent work with MyCricket to enable all registrations to be online for the first time along with the outstanding junior information night presentation. Thanks Mick. Good luck for the start of the season and "Go Demons. Steve McGinness Milo back at Bentleigh Milo In2 Cricket is back again this season and given the interest thus far, it promises to be a huge season Registration for 2014/2015 can be done online or you can come down to the registration day on Saturday November 1st at 10:00am at Bentleigh.
