CLARIFICATIONS TO ISU COMMUNICATION 1318 At the recent ISU Seminar fr Technical Specialists and Technical Cntrllers (Frankfurt, July 2005) it was agreed that sme additinal clarificatins t the infrmatin given in the ISU Cmmunicatin 1318 are required. Therefre the Ice Dance Technical Cmmittee tgether with the ISU Judging System Ad Hc Cmmissin takes this pprtunity t prvide the fllwing clarificatins: a) Page 1 Rule 504, paragraph Dance Lift (definitin) -. Therefre the fllwing acrbatic mvements and/r pses during the lift which are mre apprpriate fr an exhibitin rather than fr sprting cmpetitins are nt allwed: Revise line 4 t read: - lifting partner swinging the lifted partner arund by hlding the skate(s)/bt(s) r leg(s) nly and/r by hlding the hand(s) with full arm extensin by bth partners. Reasn: t permit a cuple t perfrm ne hand/arm lifts that d nt have full arm extensin by bth partners. b) Page 4 - Clarificatin t Special Regulatins Ice Dancing Scale f Value Chart Add new (last) line that indicated by underlining: Midline Nt Tuching (with sequential Twizzles) The base value f the Midline Nt Tuching Step Sequence will be added t the base value f the Set f Sequential Twizzles and multiplied by a factr f 0.7 and afterwards applying the GOE f the Midline Nt Tuching Step Sequence. c) Page 5, last paragraph New Definitin f a fall (agreed t fr all disciplines) Fr interpretatin f this Rule, a fall is defined as lss f cntrl by a skater with the result that the majrity f his/her wn bdy weight is n the ice supprted by any ther part f the bdy ther than the blades e.g. hand(s), knee(s), buttck(s), r any part f the arm. 1

The fllwing are nt permitted during the lifts: Add tw new sentences after 7 th line: Nte: An upside dwn split pse is nt permitted in any type f lift and will be called as an illegal element. A brief mvement thrugh an upside dwn split pse will be permitted if it is nt established (sustained) and/r if it is used nly t change pse. Reasn: t clarify that this rule applies fr riginal dance as well as free dance and t clarify that a mvement thrugh an upside dwn split pse will be permitted if it is nt held (established) and/r if it is used nly t change pse. e) Pages 13 & 14 - Required Elements fr Free Dance Seasn 2005/2006 Junir & Senir Lifts Revise under Nte t read: Difficult Pse fr Lifted partner and Difficult Psitin fr Lifting partner must be held fr at least 3 secnds. A Full Split Pse fr lifted partner is permitted in nly ne Shrt Lift and/r in ne part f a Lng Lift. Each additinal lift in Full Split Pse will be demted t Level 1 (a Full Split Pse will be identified when the legs f the lifted partner are extended in ne line with angle between thighs abut 180 degrees.) An Upside dwn split pse is nt permitted in any type f lift and will be called as an illegal element. On page 14 - Senir with: Nte: Only the first set f Synchrnized Twizzles skated (Optin 1) r the first tw sets f Synchrnized Twizzles skated (Optin 2) will be identified and given a level. f) Levels f Difficulty f Required Elements Page 15 - SPIN Sme Examples: a) Different Types f Difficult Pse Add the fllwing clarificatins fr the examples a), c), d), e), f) and g) belw: a) Biellmann type: - pulling the leg abve and behind the level f the head; c) Split pse hlding wn ft (nt n partner s shulder) bt higher than the head; d) Sit Psitin (free leg bent r straight) with free leg directed frward with thigh f skating leg at least parallel t the ice; e) Sit Psitin (free leg bent r straight) with free leg directed backward (at least 90 degrees between thigh and shin f skating leg); f) Sit Psitin (free leg bent r straight) with free leg directed t the side (at least 90 degrees between thigh and shin f skating leg); g) Camel Spin with upper bdy (shulders and head) turned upwards facing up; Add the fllwing clarificatins under Nte : Nte: Simple Camel by ne r bth is nt cnsidered t be a difficult pse. 2

Add after this the fllwing examples: e.g. - an Upright Spin t a Camel r a full Sit psitin t a straight Spin, but nt - a partial Sit psitin (thigh nt parallel t ice r at 90 as required abve) t an Upright Spin. Level 2 Revise last line t read: OR Optin 2 Change f pse fr at least ne partner (each pse at least 2 rtatins) Level 3 Revise last line t read: OR Tw different types f difficult pse fr ne partner (each pse at least 2 rtatins) Page 16 - COMBINATION SPIN Calling Specificatins fr Cmbinatins Spins Revise example # 1. t read: 1. A Cmbinatin Spin will be identified as a Spin when the cuple cmmences the entry edge t the secnd part f the spin but a full rtatin is nt cmpleted. If a fall etc. Level 3 Add at bttm: (3 different types f difficult pses required in ttal) Level 4 Add at bttm: (4 different types f difficult pses required in ttal) Page 17 & 18 LIFTS Definitins and Requirements: Revise paragraph f) t read as fllws: f) Serpentine Lift - A lift in which the lifting partner travels n tw different curves f apprximately similar curvature and duratin. The change f directin f the pattern may incrprate a turn f nt mre than ½ rtatin. The pattern must be serpentine shaped ( S ). After the cmpletin f the 2 curves the cuple may skate additinal curves r rtate (less than 1 rtatin) but this will nt be cunted. Reasn: T clarify if there is 1 rtatin r mre after the cmpletin f tw different curves it will be called as a cmbinatin lift and the identified Serpentine lift will receive n level (see Calling Specificatin fr Lifts, example # 5, n page 18). Sme Examples: a) Difficult Pse fr Lifted partner (must be held fr at least 3 secnds): Nte clarificatin f the fllwing examples (lines 1, 2 and 6): - full split (bth legs extended in ne line with angle between thighs abut 180 and nt in just a V ); - full Biellmann (pulling the leg behind and abve the level f the head); - balancing with nly ne pint f cntact and n ther supprt frm lifting partner; b) Difficult Psitin fr Lifting Partner (must be held fr at least 3 secnds): Nte clarificatin f the fllwing examples (lines 4, 5 and 7): - Ina Bauer (requires weight n frward bent leg that is n utside edge r inside edge and back leg is extended with ft placed backward) - ne arm/hand lift - full lunge/ drag with any psitin f free leg (with thigh f skating leg parallel t the ice). 3

4 Calling Specificatin fr Lifts: Revise example # 6 t read: 6. Each additinal Shrt Lift r bth parts f Lng Lift in full split pse will be demted t Level 1. A Full Split Pse will be identified when the legs f the lifted partner are extended in ne line with angle between thighs abut 180 degrees. Add new example # 7 and renumber the rest: 7. An upside dwn split pse is nt permitted in any type f lift and it will be called as an illegal element. Such an upside dwn split pse with the cnsequence f an illegal element will be identified when the angle between thighs f the lifted partner is clse t r mre than 45 with legs straight r bent. Page 20 e) REVERSE ROTATION LIFT LEVEL 4 OPTION 1 AND Lifting partner: Revise 2 nd sentence in the bracket t read: (with at least 3 rtatins in each directin) Page 22 and 23 - SYNCHRONIZED TWIZZLES Requirement 2005/2006 Replace last line Time Cde and descriptin f entry edge etc. with the fllwing: Junir: Only the first set f Synchrnized Twizzles skated will be identified and given a level.
