4) HOCKEY IN PICTURES Girls Hockey 2 nd Team in their new green hockey kit. The team then went on to beat one of their biggest rivals, Bellville High School.

Girls Hockey 2 nd Team vs Bellville High School (Won 2 : 0) The team started off the game strongly, going straight into Bellville's half, putting immediate pressure on their opponents. This pressure was kept up for the whole game, with Fairmont penetrating Bellville's circle on 15 occasions. The team combined extremely well throughout the game and the hockey played was lovely to watch. We won the match 2 : 0, with both goals scored in the second half by Jaime Tubby. This was a great comeback after last week. The girls dominated the game overall. Girls Hockey U19C Team vs Bellville High School (Won 1 : 0) After our loss against DF Malan last week, our girls came back fighting against Bellville. The girls won the match 1 : 0, with the goal being scored by the team captain, Cheyenne Hill. With the teams both having plenty of opportunities to score, the goalkeepers were kept on their toes. Well done to the team on their hard-fought-for win, and to goal keeper Kaylee van Zyl for some brilliant saves.

Boys 1 st Team (Won 2 : 1 vs SACS) Fairmont played a nailbiting match on Friday, 11 May, against SACS. The pouring rain didn't stop us from performing a world class performance. After 0 : 1 down, the team came together to score 2 more goals. Well done Aaron Smit and Ryan Jenner for scoring, and thank you Coach Jody Erasmus for guiding this ship.

5) RCL CAMP The RCL attended their annual camp at Gevonden (Base Adventures) from May. As always, the camp was an invaluable lesson in terms of teamwork, leadership skills and service planning. The RCL worked hard and played even harder! The camp was fun-filled and memorable, making RCL Camp 2018 one to remember!

6) RUGBY REPORTS U14 TEAM (LOST 10 : 15) The U14 boys really did Fairmont proud in this very tightly contested game. Melkbosstrand scored the first unconverted try within the first 5 minutes of the game. This didn't throw our boys as they fought back hard and had most of the possession in the first half. Our opposition's very strong defense held us back, but we finally broke through and #14, Benjamin Leibbrandt, scored Fairmont s unconverted try. Unfortunately, Melkbosstrand scored a try just before half-time, and again could not convert. The score at this stage was 5 : 10 to Melkbosstrand. Our opposition scored first again in the second half with no conversion, taking the score to 5 : 15. A cracker of a try by #1 Matthew Duval took us to 10 : 15. Using the speed he is so good at, we all thought Bjorn Haakestad had equalized with a try in the last minutes, but unfortunately it was not to be. Final score, a tight 10 : 15 win to Melkbosstrand. Kathryn Sakalis U15 TEAM (DREW 10 : 10) The boys started off with a bang and scored 2 tries within the first 15 min. The handling of the backline was slick and the forwards showed off their pick-and-go skills handsomely. At half-time, the score was 10 : 0. Fairmont however let Melkbos back in the game with an early try in the second half. The boys did not back down and the tackling was at times ferocious. Melkbos scored again bringing the score to 10 : 10. If one wants to be critical it must be that our structures and defence fell apart somewhat from then on and the final score was 10 : 10. Congratulations must be given to Melkbos for their fight back. Philip Conradie

U16 TEAM (LOST 12 : 17) The U16 s started off on the backfoot as they gave away a soft try in the opening minutes. They came back and showed character to be leading at the end of the first half by 12 : 7. The second half started slowly, with a few ball-handling issues. Set pieces were strong and the boys stood up to their challenge in the scrums. No points were scored by our boys in the second half. Defense was good as we were put under pressure. We had a few missed opportunities due to the ball not being played out wide. We need more team play to succeed in the future as our team has the potential to be great. Final score 12 : 17 to Melkbos / Tries scored by Lina Mahlati / Conversion by Sean Louw Gavin Louw

2 nd TEAM (DREW 5 : 5) Right from the start of the game, Melkbosstrand put a lot of pressure on our team, but the Fairmont Seccies fought back hard. Early in the first half of the game, Fairmont broke through with a try in the left corner by Radhee Armien. Unfortunately, it was not converted. Melkies eventually scored towards the end of the first half and this try was also not converted. Both teams went into half-time with an unconverted try each (half-time 5 : 5). It was a closely contested game by the two evenly matched teams with no points being added to the board in the second half. Our boys once again played well, and their behaviour both on and off the field was once again exemplary. The final score was 5 : 5. Scorers: Radhee Armien (Try) Chris Pollet

1 ST TEAM (LOST 10 : 15) After a good display against Bergvliet the week before, the Bears were keen to continue their good form against what had been reported as a strong Melkbosstrand side. The early exchanges saw the Bears dominate play and they were rewarded by a penalty in front of the posts, 5 minutes into the game. Josh Geyser slotted the penalty. With Fairmont dominating and some good passages of play and great driving by the forwards, Greg Hierse went over to score close to the poles. Josh converted and, after 13 minutes, the score was 10 : 0. Unfortunately, Melkbosstrand would not let this early setback deter them and immediately bounced back with a converted try under the poles. Inexplicably, the Bears started making handling errors and this led to another try by Melkbosstrand in the corner, 6 minutes later. The try was unconverted. The Bears suffered a great loss just before half-time with Andrew Reeves and Daniel Middleton colliding in a tackle. With a ten minute stoppage, both players left the field with head injuries. Half time score: 10 : 12. In the second half, the Bears tried to get their game back, but the handling errors just piled on. After giving away several penalties, Melkbosstrand eventually slotted one over, 10 minutes into the second half. The Bears finished the game strongly, almost scoring in the last move of the game. Final score: Scorers: 10 : 15 to a relieved Melkbosstrand Greg Hierse try Josh Geyser 1 conversion & 1 penalty Chris Pollet

MATCH REPORT (15/05/2018) This week we came up against our toughest opponents yet - JG Meiring - but managed to achieve a narrow win. The score was 5 : 4 and the goals were scored by Emily, Isabella and Francesca (with a hat trick). Caitlin had a fantastic game and our keeper, Nina, made many heroic saves. The player of the match was Caitlin Sithole who saved the day with her great tackles and solid defense. Well done to the team who, even in the face of incredible opposition, managed to emerge victorious.
