Page 4 Match Reports COORPAROO U8 SILVER V S CARINDALE U8 BLUE SATURDAY 23RD MAY Our toughest game so far this season against Carindale Blue and the boys didn t disappoint. Great teamwork and good to see the boys use of handball. Given the breezy conditions there was some very nice marks and when we were kicking with the wind the kicks were long into space. Welcome back coach George and thanks to Megan for her help over the past two weeks. Congratulations Jack Clutton - our player of the week who snapped a couple of nice goals. The Encouragement Award went to Samuel Wilton who applied great pressure on the footy all game. Well done Under 8 s Silver! COORPAROO U8 GOLD vs MORNINGSIDE U8 GREEN SATURDAY 23RD MAY AT MORNINGSIDE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Sabastian Bailey for his marking, running and determination to get the ball PLAYER REWARD (TRAINING AWARD) Brayden Cossio for his energy in the Eliminator Our first away game for the year was a tough encounter against a strong Morningside Green team. I was very proud of the boys work ethic and fair play despite the challenge of such a seasoned team. Under 8 Gold certainly did the Coorparoo Football Club proud today! Coorparoo Gold started slowly today and Morningside took full advantage with the backline (Brayden Cossio, Dash Wilks, Sabastian Bailey) having their work cut-out for them. After some initial shock all the team started to get closer to their opposition player to slow their progress. Oscar Green was captain for the week and rallied hard with birthday boy Lucas Abrahams and George Crutch in the midfield. They all ran their hearts out and played with great enthusiasm. As with last week, quarter by quarter Gold improved. We tightened up our defensive effort and that gave us the opportunity to find the ball ourselves and move it from zone to zone with some big kicks. Toby Hall, Nicholas Landers, Sebastian Bailey and Oscar Green took some strong marks. Fin Pollack, Ethan Park and Brayden Cossio made excellent space today and could have taken many marks between them. I can see a breakout game from them coming soon. It was also great to see Daniel Gyte for his first game for Gold U8 this week. We really missed his presence when he went down in the third quarter with a leg knock. Thanks to the first aid staff for looking after him and we look forward to seeing him at training on Monday. After thanking the umpire and opposition for a great game, U8 Gold sang the Coorparoo Club song very enthusiastically. Congratulations to the entire team on another great game. It was a lot of fun out there and it was great to see your enthusiasm on show! Thanks as well to the wonderful sideline supporters of the U8 Gold Team! Great Job Gold!

Page 5 Match Reports COORPAROO U8 NAVY V S MT GRAVATT U8 BLUE SATURDAY 23RD MAY AT GIFFIN PARK At training the focus was blind turns / evasion to allow the boys to allow an easy open kick. I was hoping the boys put this into practice today. Navy was playing with only 1 reserve. Another windy day and we were kicking into the wind in the 1st Quarter. The Navy boys came out firing in the 1st Quarter. Tate, Xavier and Angus owned the Centre third, tap outs from the ruck to each other s advantage and some great passing into Joe and Ryan in the forward line allowing Joe to kick 1 goal and Ryan a massive 4 goals for the quarter. Tate was the first to put practice into play by doing do a blind turn, the Mt Gravatt opponent was lost on what had happened to him. Not to be out done, Xavier had a run a bounce and then a blind turn. The 2nd Quarter was Mt Gravatt s only quarter, they kept firing the ball into their forwards and the backs, Digger, Xavier and Ryan did a great job defending and stopped a lot of potential goals. Digger had a great first quarter of footy for The 3rd Quarter once again kicking into the wind, it seems like the scoring end based on the first half and amazingly it was again this quarter. Digger and Ryan in the Centre got more than their share of the contested ball and then ran and delivered to our forwards Xavier, Tate and Joseph who were making space allowing open targets for the ball carriers. Tate had a couple of runs with ball in hand touch on ground bounces (something for training) and kicked the first 2 goals. I asked him if we could try and get the other Forwards goals and some great team worked allowed Xavier and Joseph to get a major each. The 4th Quarter, kicking with the wind to the non-scoring end, how can this be? The Centre Navy boys, Reuben, Joe and Thomas showed that kicking with the wind is easier than against it. Tommy wanted to get in on the blind turns and on his first attempt showed us how not to do it, by turning, tripping and ending up on the ground. Not to give-up Tommy followed it up with Play of the Day, a perfectly executed blind turn, followed by a handball off to Joe who kicked a lovely pass to Digger in the Forward line leading to a goal. Digger had a couple of good runs and shots at goal. Digger kicked 2 majors for the quarter and Xavier 1. Ryan was awarded Player of the Week for his all round game today. In the 1st Quarter season high (career?) goal kicking, 2nd Quarter running, marking and desperate defending in the Backs and then working with his team mates in the Centre delivering ball to the Forwards in the 3rd, benched in the 4th ;-) Great game!!! Digger was awarded the Baskin & Robins voucher for a great first game of the season. He may have been a bit rusty due to lack of game time ;-) but what we all saw today was role model material, leading by example of what U8 s can do. Great defending, applying pressure, running and bouncing with the ball, marking, second efforts and drop punt passes to team mates. My favourite, the perfectly executed drop punts A Great 2015 First Game and expecting the same for the rest of the season. COORPAROO U10 WHITE vs WYNNUM U10 SATURDAY 23RD MAY The boys start the first quarter well, applying great tackling pressure around the ball and making it difficult for Wynnum to gain any real momentum. Luka and Ben C showed some great passing skills and Lachlan s defensive marking stopped numerous scoring opportunities. The boys continued the defensive effort against a strong Wynnum team, with Luka and Jake showing the way with strong tackling pressure. In the forwards Isaac s persistence in attack resulted in scoring opportunities for his team mates, who were rewarded with a goal. The third quarter was highlighted by some fancy foot work by Nikhil early in the quarter and also an amazing check side goal from hard against the boundary line that was one for the ages. In the forth quarter the boys never gave up even though the games wasn t quite going their way. Finn continued to carry the ball well, as he did all game and the tackling pressure was still as aggressive as the first quarter. Man of the match was Lachlan who displayed great pressure consistently throughout the again and some fantastic tackling. Play of the day was Nikhil and his amazing goal from hard up against the boundary in the right forward pocket. COORPAROO/WYNNUM U16 Div 2 SUNDAY 24TH MAY Bruce Cruikshank - U16 Coach Great win again yesterday fellas :175 to Kenmore/Wests 1 point. You were like lions flexing their muscles. It was good to see you guys putting into practice what we train and your ball movement and sharing the ball around was fantastic. Everyone participated and a great effort considering we started with 16, U16 players and testament to the quality of U14 players who filled in again you give us so much support and add strength. Your goal kicking was very accurate especially in the first half and the most pleasing aspect was we had 10 different goal kickers, most of them multiple and Meesy kicking 11 goals, what a haul! I m not sure where we will be next weekend so let s keep the momentum going and be prepared for whatever comes our way.

Page 6 Match Reports COORPAROO U10 RED vs REDLANDS U10 SATURDAY 23RD MAY AT REDLAND BAY SS After accepting a request to shift the game even further afield to Redland Bay S.S., we arrived to discover an opposition with almost identical jerseys, shorts and socks. The decision to turn the Coorparoo Reds jerseys inside out wasn t popular, but had to be done! The team ran out behind captain Sabian, and started the game like they had last week very, very slowly. After a couple of opposition scores, the boys started getting into the tackling like George P-M and Orlando did up forward, as well as spoiling like backman Sebastien has added to his game this year. Orlando gathered a loose ball and snapped wide of the mark, but soon after Tycho slotted through a great goal from an angle which the blustery wind could not counter and the boys had almost caught up. The second quarter saw an increase in effort if not results, starting with George earning a free kick in the middle to send the ball forward. Sabian worked hard in the middle with a series of loose ball gathers and long kicks into the strong wind. He also earned a free kick from a great tackle, however the opposition continued to drop to the ground every time they were tackled and it became apparent that bumping would be better to avoid penalty. Liam gathered a few loose balls up forward as well, and was on his way to an open goal when his run went just that little bit too far! And so, just like last week, the boys seemed to wipe the slate clean, and came out having woken up to both the conditions and how to thwart the opposition s wobbly legs. Edward gathered a few loose balls and kicked long, with his little brother Angus found on the lead twice in quick succession. Sebastien also took a mark in the middle, as well as battling hard to lock the ball in alongside Luke. Tycho showed his improved tackling and hunt of the loose ball down back, alongside Jimmy who started to turn it on for the entire second half. His marking and loose ball gathering kicked into gear, with fellow backmen Cian and Orlando restricting the opposition to just a couple of behinds. Up forward Jack took a mark, and Sabian did likewise as the boys foot passing became much cleaner. Sabian battled hard around the goals, and after earning a second free kick in front of goal, finally added a major to the Red teams score. For the final quarter, the ball was largely locked in the backline and centre zones as the boys kicked against the wind once again. Edward steamed towards goal in one forward thrust but again the Reds were denied a shot due to running too far. Sebastien also battled well upo forward, gathering and handpassing very quickly, with speed of execution one of his major improvements this year. Jack marked well in the middle, whilst Liam and Tycho tackled and battled strongly. Down back, with plenty of action, Angus took a great overhead mark, whilst Orlando earned a free kick to pass to his brother. Sabian was very busy, with a couple of tackles, a couple of loose ball gathers and long kicks and a free kick helping to stem flow of the opposition s sorties. All things considered, a solitary conceded goal was a good result and left the Red team with another break-even second half. COORPAROO U10 NAVY vs ALEXANDRA HILLS U11 SATURDAY 23RD MAY AT GIFFIN PARK Captain - William Crowe-Maxwell Player of the Match - This week s honour goes to Jett Graham. Whilst Jett missed last week s game, he showed he will be a force again this year with his pace and attack on the ball. There was some of that real zip back this week, and the team really fed off his energy. Play of the Day - It was an easy choice for Play of the Day, it came from Alessandro Porreca. He laid two crunching legal tackles in the forward line one after the other, showing the team what real forward pressure looks like. The last tackle was rewarded with a free kick which he duly dispatched through the big sticks. Best Trainer - Dashiell Young is showing that training dedication pays off. His handball skill is unparalleled in U10 Navy, keep up the great work Dash. Summary - It was a real 4 quarter effort today against an Alexandra Hills team for the second week running. Today Navy showed off some of their teamwork skills and the cobwebs are starting to disappear. Over the entire game, their teamwork was fantastic showing great support for each other on the park. Some of the personal highlights this week included Will s slick hand passing and direct kicking to team mates. Eddie Russell narrowly missed play of the day with a brilliant last quarter goal that had the crowd excited. Our two talls, Jake and Lachie were both crashing packs in the forward and backline. Their ruck work is really assisting Navy get first use of the ball. Jake Faz has begun the season where he left off last year, feisty tackling and attack on the ball. He is our inside man for sure. Jack Baxby is a real standout out this year for many reason, the fact he has grown about 30cm in the off season, his eye catching head gear and his renewed enthusiasm for the contest. Liam produced some trademark long kicks and weaving runs through the and forward line. Looking forward to having Christian, Christian and Tom back next week. Navy were gladly supported by two other Coorparoo boys this week - Harrison and Jett. They both showed great club spirit and fitted into the team seamlessly with some fantastic marking and goal kicking. Thanks again boys. Now we just have to work on waking the boys up at the start maybe some tackling practice on Friday and also a bit of it just before the game next week! Congratulations to Jimmy for receiving the Best Player Award, after a great second half taking many marks and kicking the ball clear of congestion. Congratulations also to Orlando for winning the Encouragement Award, with another fantastic tackling and pressure effort all over the ground. Next week it s back to home ground, and the boys will surely be aiming to play from the opening ball up!

Page 7 Match Reports COORPAROO U10 BLUE vs SANGATE U13 DIV 2 SATURDAY 23RD MAY As soon as the siren sounded the boys were ready for action. In the first quarter we saw strong work across the middle of the ground from Josh and Isaac Casey. They ran hard at the ball and fed it into the forwards. Ethan took an outstanding mark in the back line to prevent a Morningside goal. At the start of the second quarter Fletcher was impressive charging out of the centre and executing a strong kick into the forward line. Jake was brilliant around the goals but the stand out player was Will who took 2 spectacular marks in the backline stopping what would have been certain goals for our opposition. Our best quarter for sure was the third. Ethan dodged and weaved around players, Riley gave strong chase, Lynchy was very focused on manning up whilst Jett was really strong and effective at tackling. There were some great passages of play between Aiden and Jett handballing accurately to each other. Will read the play well and the whole team just dominated play. The final quarter saw Morningside finish strongly continuing to kick goals and play really well. Our boys continued trying hard especially Chase who kept getting in amongst the play and showed great tenacity. Great game boys!!!! A special thank you to Will and Jake for filling in for us today - we really appreciated it. COORPAROO U11 BLUE vs REDLANDS U11 BLACK SATURDAY 23RD MAY AT GIFFIN PARK Coorparoo 29 Redland 22. On a very windy day at Giffin Park Stadium, Coorparoo Blue held its nerve to edge out a dogged Redland Black by just seven points in a thrilling reunion of last year s outing at Victoria Point. In a hard-fought game, the Redland Blacks looked set to steal victory, carrying the momentum into the final term. The Coorparoo Blues were powered by Justin, Rafe and Larry in the midfield and energised by Ruben and Max whose electric presence in the forward line turned the match. The Redland Blacks dominated the first quarter and took our boys by surprise with a goal and a behind. Whichever side could pick the wind was going to have an edge. Our side kept up the defence with inspirational tackling by Patrick and Nick together with some magic disposals by Jonah and Harry. The second quarter was to see some good shepherding and more numbers to the ball. It was all about keeping up the pressure and maintaining the effort. The backline in Charlie, Ben and Nick kept the ball moving wide and hovered over their opponents. A behind from Larry and another one from Ben kept our side within reach. A brilliant kick from Justin found the safe hands of Ruben who then kicked our first goal. Half time - Coorparoo: 1:.4-10 Redland: Some half time words urging the team forward were needed. The Brown brothers took control of all that needed to be said. With the 10-minute half-time break complete the boys were soon back in the centre for the umpires bounce. Each bump was made with feeling, each tackle with clenched teeth. Watching the third was like watching in slow motion. You witnessed every player s raw emotion and determined will as they forged on. With each mark and tackle there was an Ohh and Ahh from the 50-strong crowd. The third quarter saw star playmaker Matty taken from the ground. Fortunately nothing was broken but our thoughts are with him. It looks like he might be out for a couple of games. At the end of the third quarter the score - Coorparoo: Redland: The final quarter saw Coorparoo Blue stand up to arrest their slide and turn the game on its feet. No one will ever know what possessed the team to play like they did. What we do know is that this last quarter will become legendary. Remember the day your children were born. Nope. Remember this quarter. Yep. The f erocious energy of Coorparoo Blues previous outings had returned. A goal from the boot of Adam and a behind by Larry saw the scoreboard reading 23 points to 22. A one-point game. No one in the crowd was leaving early today. Redland had a few chances to snatch victory but the Coorparoo defence led by Patrick and Nick stood strong. They were well supported by Justin and Josh. Coorparoo players Charlie, Hunter, Josh and Callan played strong hands, with Larry best on ground on the day. Could the clock strike midnight on this Cinderella story? And then a gut busting run by Will set up Max for a golden goal right on the final siren. What a victory! Do you believe in unlikelihoods? Who would have thought after the third quarter the scoreboard would read Coorparoo 29 Redland 22. Coorparoo Blue. That s who. The lads have passed the test. What a team. Fantastic teamwork. Good energy. Great coaching. Well done!! BEST ON GROUND: LARRY CLARK 1% AWARD: PATRICK ABRAHAMS

Page 8 Match Reports COORPAROO U11 NAVY vs ALEXANDRA HILLS U11 SATURDAY 23RD MAY AT GIFFIN PARK COORPAROO U12 BLUE SUNDAY 24TH MAY def What a way to play our second game of the season 4 players down, so we were lucky that Coorparoo Blue were playing after us at Giffin Park. Thanks to Will, Matt, Adam and Larry for playing for us. It was really appreciated! The score line, 110 to 1, sums the game up. Navy dominated the game but it doesn t show how hard the wind was blowing, favouring one end and impacting the ability to kick a goal from a distance, or what great defending Navy did deep in Alex Hills forward line, to stop scoring shots and the team work required to get the ball back to our forwards. The boys were running hard and giving the ball carriers easy open targets. It was great to watch. 16 Goals were made up of Josh 6 (straight), Corey 2, Fletcher 2, Jack 2, Flynn 1, Kai 1 and Josiah 1 missing one somewhere? Josiah 2? Memorable moments Jack s opponent when playing Full Forward biggest Navy vs smallest Alex Hills player on each other, Kai and Fletcher taking each other out when going for a mark, Lachy s talking, telling team mates what should be happening and effective shepherding. Corey s run with the ball, Fletcher taking his full 30 seconds when shooting at goals in the last. Josh was awarded Player of the Week. Josh played a great game today, always running hard to give players options to kick, tackling hard and effective use of the ball. After kicking 6 goals straight, showing his Navy team mates how easy it was, Paul made the call that someone else should have some goal kicking practice and moving him from the Forward line. We expect 6 each week from now on Josh. Josiah was awarded Player of the Match after getting hands on a lot of ball and using it with purpose. He ran hard and kicked a goal (or 2?) but could have had a hand full if he kicked a little straighter. Mastering the drop punt to get majors from every opportunity required More of the same next week!

Page 9 Match Reports COORPAROO U13 vs ZILLMERE U13 SUNDAY 24TH MAY AT GIFFIN PARK The mighty Roos were back at Giffin Park to take on early ladder leaders the Zillmere Eagles. The match started brightly and it was clear from the start that it was going to be a close and tough encounter. Zillmere mounted the pressure in the first 5 minutes but were only rewarded with a couple of behinds. Some strong moments in the first quarter were from Josh in the backs with an early tackle. Flynn was as composed as ever with a great mark. Kai was playing in the midfield and collecting the ball and moving it forward. Sam H switched the play with a disposal to Ethan T. The quarter was quick with hard defensive play, typified by Ayla pressing hard and chasing her target down and Juan David with strong tackling. Quarter 2 saw the game open a little and Jaxon creating some drive from the midfield. Zillmere were pushing forward and the Roos needed to mount some strong defence in front of goal. Ethan D and Jackson were red hot in defence. Matthew and Connor both working hard for the team in the backs. Zac was in the centre and jumping high to take on possibly the tallest ruck in the division. The team went behind to goals from Zillmere but kept on challenging and were rewarded when Harry was paid for a tackle and the ball moved forward ending up with Cory who bagged the first goal for the team. At half time they were just 2 goals behind and the game was there to be taken. Coach James took the half time break to remind the team that it s a team game and everybody has to play their role in the team to get success. The player who scores the goal, gets the opportunity because of the other 17 in the field at that time. Zillmere won the third quarter but weren t dominant, they extended the lead by a goal and three behinds. Tom was great in the midfield putting on a strong smother. All the players were putting in a strong defensive effort and trying to contest the ball. Ben and Sam P were chasing the ball and pushing. Hugh used is height and took a top mark. The fourth quarter got underway and the team started to click into gear. Quick movement from the centre pushed the ball forward in a blink and Liam took his opportunity. Maybe this match could be won. Again from the restart, the team pushed forward quickly, but Zillmere punished them and responded with their own quick goals. Harrison copped niggling all match but kept his composure well. This team continued to play out four quarters and Sean was rewarded with the goal at his mercy from a long kick. The final result was a 20 point win for Zillmere but the team worked hard for the whole game and improved in teamwork as the match progressed. Work hard at training guys, play as a team and the results will take care of themselves. COORPAROO V UQ COORPAROO DEF UQ Alarm bells should be ringing for the rest of the competition, because the defending premiers have just won three on the trot and are looking very dangerous While not as dominant as their past two wins, the Navy Roos played another quality game of football on the weekend and were ultimately too strong for a gallant UQ outfit. This game had a mountain of intensity from the get go and it was clear from the first tackle of the match that neither side was going down lightly. It was an arm wrestle in the early going and it seemed like an entirety before the first goal came, but Dani Sammut broke the deadlock in the 10th minute, slotting one from 30m out. Coorparoo continued to break down the Red Lionesses in the second term, kicking another two goals to lead by 30-points and leave UQ scoreless at half-time. Despite missing their two goal kicking guns in Hannah Sexton and Emma Zielke, the Navy Roos had no trouble finding the sticks on Sunday, with Spence, Lee and Herdman all kicking two. The Navy Roos blew out to a big 46-point lead mid-way through the final term, but UQ kept fighting and kicked three goals in less than 10 minutes to finish the game on a high. UQ have come a long way in the last 12 months, but Coorparoo were too good on the day, running out 34-point winners. Coach s thoughts - Bernie Cantrell Coorparoo I thought we were a little bit flat, but I also think that UQ s pressure on the footy was really really good today, they made us earn absolutely everything. I m really pleased with how the group is coming together, we are starting to get some team unity and the girls are starting to play good footy together. We kicked 7.11 so we probably could have kicked a few more goals and made the game a bit more spread, but we didn t execute well enough. We had a few key girls out this week and I thought some girls stepped up in their absence, Bree (Littlejohn) was fantastic through the middle and Ericka (Beattie) really played well.

Coaches Code of Conduct Abide by the Laws of the Game, Rules of the Club and League: Teach the Rules Rules are mutual agreements that nobody should break Place winning in perspective: Stress safety always Consider maturity levels Devise training programs to suit all Group players competitively Avoid overplaying talented players Maximise fun Develop team respect: For opponents, umpires and coaches Recognise the importance of proper injury treatment Keep up to date with coaching developments Attain coaching accreditation and update regularly Avoid derogatory language Officials Code of Conduct Remember you are representing your club / league and setting as example to your players / parents Try to resolve any conflict in a calm, sensible manner (when possible in private) Be aware of potential volatile situations at all times and be prepared to deal with them appropriately Players Code of Conduct Play by the laws and rules Don t argue Control your temper Be a team player Be a good sport Treat all players fairly, and as you would like to be treated Cooperate with your coach, teammates, opponents and officials Play for fun and improvement Avoid any remarks based on race or gender Spectators Code of Conduct Encourage child participation but do not force them to participate. Teach that honest effort is the victory, not the winning Encourage to always play by the rules and accept the umpire s decision at all times Never ridicule mistakes or yell at a child for making mistakes or losing Remember that involvement is for their enjoyment, not yours Remember that they learn best by example. Applaud both teams. Recognise positively the recreational contribution of voluntary officials, coaches and administrators Never publicly disagree with officials. Raise issues privately Support all efforts to remove verbal, racial and physical abuse and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence Support your club officials to foster high standards of behaviour for your club and the league Junior and Youth Team Manager Pack - The Coorparoo Junior Australian Football Club Code of Conduct.docx - 26 Apr 2014
