4 Under 6 Green & Gold On Sunday 3rd May, the Under 6 Gold played our own Under 6 Green team and what a game it was. Many of the highlights included some amazing chest and overhead marks, team handball and super goals scored by both teams. Congratulations to all the goal scorers on the day but it must be said, the smiles on the faces of all the players as we sung the club song together was the highlight of the morning. Many thanks to all our parents / caregivers for supporting both teams in getting organised for the upcoming season. We are looking forward to a great season of football! Under 7 Gold Travelling out to Bagster Road to play Salisbury North you just know the game is going to be a physical one. They breed em tough out there and we were always going to be getting down and dirty. With a delayed start due to not having an umpire we decided to start with a volunteer from their team to umpire the game. Salisbury were also short of players so we had x2 of our boys play for them each quarter. Before the game there were a few things to concentrate on: Standing the mark and playing to our U7 rules. Lachlan Anderson and Ajay Visnyai were our captains for the day, we lost the toss but got to kick to the end we wanted to and so in affect we won it anyway. The first quarter started in a blitz from the centre from Alby Bradshaw with a great tap from Lachlan Anderson. Jordan Ruchs finished the play with a nice goal. We took control of the rest of the first quarter and they struggled to get the ball past the centre. When they did our back line stood tall and rebounded nicely with Hamish forcing the ball forward. We had many shots at goal this quarter but could only manage 1 more goal with great dodging from Ajay. At quarter time we spoke about sharing the ball with our team mates and playing to the U7 rules. The second quarter started and like the first; we had control of the game. There was some great work from the centres and little Sammy Carter had his best quarter for the season so far with a couple kicks and some brave desperate efforts. Our forward line again had a lot of shots on goal with both Jayden Djorem and Jayden Jackman having a few pings. We hit the post a couple times and just missed with others. The backline again stood strong with Brodie Murphy taking charge and Riley Baker with his strong body work and balance. Kyan Smith and Hamish Martyn showed us their skills from the other side with a great performance for Salisbury this quarter. We turned the ball over a little bit this quarter but it was because we were playing like a team and were desperate for our mates to get the ball. Jordan and Ajay (although had to go off for a mid-quarter drinks break) were tremendous in making sure even one got a touch in their part of the ground with Caleb Zanker and Harry Hensby getting some nice touches. At half time we spoke about our strong team work keep it up boys!!!! We started the third quarter a little slower with Salisbury getting the jump on us with a couple quick goals. They remained dominant for the first half of the quarter then Zak Dimasi and Oliver Ward showed some desperation in the second part. Even though we weren t on top this quarter we still showed our team values by dishing the ball out to our mates with both Jaydens D & J getting the ball to Riley Rosenburg with a couple cheeky touches. At three quarter time we had to address playing to the U7 rules as we got a bit excited that quarter but it shows great intent for the football which is a very important component to playing football, so great work boys. The last quarter started with some awesome run from Bailey Casey and Harry Slater getting his hands on the ball early with a great pass into the forward lines. Adam Barnett in the centre managed to get his own ball and pass off to his team mates. The goal he kicked from the centre of the ground brought the crowd to their feet but was disallowed as only forwards can kick goals in U7 s. Again this quarter we showed fantastic team play. The way we started to move to ball would ve been great to watch from the side lines. We showed a fantastic game spirit and special mentions to the boys who performed very well for Salisbury. Well done to Jayden Djorem, Oliver Ward, Kyan Smith, Hamish Martyn, Alby Bradshaw, Lachlan Anderson, Caleb Zanker and Harry Hensby. In summary it was a great match. Our boys are starting to gain more confidence by the quarter. But it looks like we re going to need some goal shooting practice as we re out there playing Salisbury s other side next week!!! Who is Golden Grove Under 7 Gold?! WE ARE!!!! Go Kookaburras!!!!

5 Under 8 Green Another perfect Sunday morning for the Under 8 Green boys to take on Walkerville Blue. We were without our regular coach but Adam Switala stepped into the role and helped our boys play a great game once again. Jace got us off to a brilliant start with his big booming kick scoring two goals early, with Jordan's clearance work and accurate kicking providing lots of opportunities. Indy also added a point and Logan just sneaked through a goal off a strong chase for the ball. Indy made his presence felt in the centre in the second quarter, winning lots of the ball and sending it down to the forwards. Louis and Harley showed some excellent marking skills, with Louis finishing off with three goals and Harley being a little inaccurate but still scoring a point. Liam continued his strong form from last week and took a great grab then goal. Kam was also everywhere, taking marks and kicking two points. Alex and Mackye both worked hard to chase the ball all over the ground. Jordan didn't let an opportunity slip and converted his time in the forward lines into a couple of goals. Ryan and Owen were always in the mix around the stoppages, while Noah showed his desire by sliding onto a loose ball and kicking a point. Blake was all over the ball in the last quarter, winning the clearances and sending the ball forward where Indy took a few grabs and kicked 1.1 for the quarter. Rhys and Angus played a solid team game passing the ball to their teammates, and Logan managed to slot another goal right on the siren. Fantastic work boys! Scorers: Louis 3.0, Jace 2.0, Logan 2.0, Jordan 2.0, Indy 1.2, Liam 1.0, Kam 0.2, Harley 0.1, Noah 0.1. Under 8 Gold Under 8 Gold had our first home game on another beautiful Sunday morning at Harpers. Our opponent Para Hills only had 10 players, so we had to give them extra players during the game, and to the credit of our boys, they gave their all and played some great footy for them - well done! GGFC got off to a flyer, scoring 5 goals in the first quarter, including Kodi Landherr's first goal for the Kookaburras from some fantastic team work. Braden Carpenter owned the centre, and Ryan Kopec certainly had one of his best games. Birthday girl Brooke Silby opened the scoring with a goal...the first of her three for the match. The second quarter was a much tougher contest, with Para Hills stringing together some good pieces of play, thanks to some great centre work by their "loan" player Matthew LeRay. Bailey Maddeford played a great game, scoring his first goal for the year (straight to his dad Wayne as Goal Umpire), along with Tyson Walters scoring his first major. The second half was all GGFC, and included some booming kicks from Josh Caldicott to grab a couple of goals. The defensive work in the centre particularly was excellent, and Jack Goreing showed his strong marking skills. Noah French also managed to sneak in his first goal as a Kookaburra just before the final siren! A great all-round team effort. Goal Scorers: Brooke Silby 3.1, Matthew LeRay 3.0, Josh Caldicott 2.0, Ryan Kopec 1.1, Thomas Glen 1.1 (plus one for Para Hills), Noah French 1.1, Kodi Landherr 1.0, Bailey Maddeford 1.0, Braden Carpenter 1.0, Tyson Walters 1.0, Jack Goreing 1.0 After the match, we heard a loud rendition of "Happy Birthday" in the clubrooms for Brooke, who celebrated her 8th birthday.

6 Under 8 Blue A great effort from the boys, with many of them getting involved with the game. With 3/4 of the team being brand new players to the club it is going to take some time for the boys to get to know one another's abilities but their improvement from last week's game was fantastic! We focused on a number of 'aggression at the ball' based drills at training last week and the result seemed to be a dramatic increase in confidence to go into a contest and command the ball. We also worked on running with the ball which again seemed to have flowed onto this weekends game with the ball moving down the ground well. Goals from Jordie, Matthew and Nate gave the team a real lift with the boys being rewarded for commanding possession of the ball. A number of players are starting to realise that we need to run with the ball and look forward for a disposal as opposed to panicking and handballing the ball off at the first possible chance. Brodie Hoyle possibly got a little carried away with this after being picked up by the umpire following his third bounce of the footy. Riley Magro started to get involved taking a fantastic mark in the centre third and then looking for a team mate to pass off to. Matthew Sherwood's attack on the ball was impressive winning the majority of the contests he was involved with. Isaac Riddle gathered the ball on the run impressively in the centre third and kicked forward. Thomas Hobbs and Austin Smart both took a number of solid marks in our defence and were able to clear the ball with the depth of their kicks. We will be continuing to build on this confidence at training with our focus being aggression at the ball and skills development. Well done boys! Scorers: Jordan Sherburd 1.0, Matthew Sherwood 1.0, Nate Sangster 1.0, Austin Smart 0.1. Under 9 Gold It was a great day for footy and the boys came out with their game faces on to play Athelstone Red on Sunday. It was impressive to see the boys string together a couple of plays goal to goal without the ball hitting the ground. Jakson Ray (Captain) and Jayden Camilleri (Vice Captain) led the way winning the toss. The team spirit was evident from the start of the match with Riley Watkins coming out and supporting the team while having a week off resting a sore knee. Xander volunteered to play for the opposition team because they were one short in the first quarter. Xander kicked one of their goals and parents wondered if they could recruit him! Once returning to the Kookaburras he kicked another 3 goals and passed on a couple...great team work! Wyatt, Jayden and Daniell Cowie had outstanding games getting to the ball regularly and in a tough contest and handballed out to their team mates which contributed to team goals. Tom and Talan were in the thick of it winning the ball in the air and on the ground, with Tom kicking 3 goals and Talan kicking 2. Danyle Dobbie, Daniel Hewitt, Tyson, Alex all kicked goals looking lively around the ground taking strong marks and converting from difficult positions. Captain Jakson led from the front kicking 2 goals and playing his best match for the season so far. Brodie was quick around the ground moving into space well and kicking the ball long opening up the game and giving our forwards first use. Josh impressed with 2nd and third efforts at the contest. His tackling and sharing of the football was outstanding. Isaac, Seth and Luke played a pivotal roles in ensuring that the ball rebound straight back to our forward line on many occasions. Overall it was a great team effort and looking forward to next week already! Go the burras!

7 Under 10 Blue The Blue Burras were home for their first match of the year vs Modbury Brown. Our boys came to play and started very impressively, kicking goals early and showing the same form as last week sharing, shepherding, going wide from defence and centering nicely for a shot at goal. We had fantastic early contributions from Jack, Koby our captain for the night who continues to run and bounce, and our leaders for the night Brandon (16 kicks, 3 goals), Brodie Tilley and Waylon, who burrowed in nicely several times to get the ball out of a tight spot. Perhaps the boys got ahead of themselves late in the second and most of the third quarters, and the lack of physical pressure allowed Modbury s taller players to run straight lines through the corridor and kick truly. It was at this point that I implored the team to give me something physically. Aaron (16 kicks 1 goal) started us off with great run and carry, evasion and sharp shooting and our little dynamo Jake Winter defensive leader for the week put on the biggest tackle I have ever seen a true David V Goliath as a massive kid from Modbury threatened to put them in front. The holding-the-ball result turned the tide, we rebounded strong, scored several more times and finished the game on a high!!!! Well done leaders, well done team. Eastern Park present a huge challenge next week lets get at em!! Under 11 White Round 1: The Boys played Gaza at home this week and had a very big win. The most pleasing thing was it was a complete team effort. The boys broke through the lines by using handballs, this created a lot of run and clean passages of play. Rhys got off to a great start with a couple of great centre clearances and a goal in the first quarter. In the second quarter the boys stepped it up a gear and started to link up some handballs and some good shepherding lead by two of the smaller kids on the field in Connor and Josh, which allowed Sebastian some space to set up a goal. In the third quarter the boys were running the ball freely and hitting their big targets in Brayden and Noah and Rhys, Ben T and Reilly kept the score board going. In the last Trent moved into the ruck and won every hit out and contributed to every centre clearance, Sebastian and Marshall linked up a couple of times and Marshall booted two goals. Josh popped up and slotted one to give him two for the game, the other was the first for the opposition. The encouraging thing is we are still improving as a side. Special mentions for Reilly, Rhys and Marshall for kicking 2 goals each. Well done boys, you ALL played well!! Round 2: This week we played Hope Valley at Hope Valley in perfect conditions, and the boys had a gutsy come from behind win. The Hope Valley boys had a massive height advantage over our boys and it showed in the first half with them keeping us goalless. Our boys looked flat, second to the ball and just blazing away to two on one contest. The third quarter we showed a lot more intensity and attack at the ball being led by the smaller boys Josh, Conner and Lochie, and Brayden C providing a target up forward. We still in range after kicking two goals and still not playing our best football. Going into the last quarter two goals down I just asked the boys to take the game on and have plenty of run, the boys responded by kicking four goals to nil in the last quarter. The back line was like a wall not letting anything through led by Trent at centre half back, the backs worked as a team rebounding the ball with run and kicking the ball to space to let our quicks in Seb, Rory and Cameron be first to the ball and allow them to run the ball into a open forward line. The forwards took advantage of the speed the ball was coming in, Noah kicking two, Seb & B kicking goals. It took a whole team effort in the last quarter to get the win, I am so proud of the boys. Well done!! Under 11 Red
