1 Social Comp Update Round 8 Monday night was Round 8 of the social comp, and the last round before the Christmas break. Game 1 was another close encounter between the Beatty Sparks and the Otters, with the Otters pulling away late in the fourth quarter to eke out a 9-7 win. For the Otters, Nathan scored 2 goals, as did Sam Hardy and Barry Gibb. Ali, Tim and Jerome also contributed a goal each. The Sparks were led by Tyler Sims with 3 goals, while Lee contributed 2 (which he can recount many times in unpronounceable words when he returns to his native Wales for Christmas). Luke George and Steve Wellard also scored a goal each. Speaking of Luke, he becomes the second player this season to be eliminated from a match with 3 exclusion fouls! In the second match the undermanned Piranhas took on the Skulls, and the veterans pulled away for a 12-3 win. With the Venus Flytrap called away for an emergency DJ gig, Paul Rodrigues stepped in as goalie for the Piranhas and did his best against an onslaught of balls near his face. For the Skulls, Joel Sangster continues to turn back time, scoring 5 goals in a dazzling display of his skills (for those who don t know Joel was one of the founders of the Phantoms in 1987, and the inaugural President of the Club). Nathan also had 3 goals (ahem, what are doing playing for the Skulls Nathan!), while Donna K had two goals. Luke George and Geoff Lewis also had a goal each. Hats off to Donna for going out of her way to provide invaluable coaching tips to the Piranhas while playing for the other team!

3 Did you know? The early American version of water polo had slightly different rules which permitted holding, sinking and dunking at the time! In 1900 Men s Water Polo became the first Olympic team sport when the Summer Games were held in Paris. Between 1890 and 1920 Great Britain dominated the sport of Water Polo. In 1928 a Hungarian coach developed the Dry Pass and implemented a skilled, fastpaced game. As a result, Hungary became the most dominant team in the world for the next 60 years. The White Pointers were founded over a few beers at the Court in December 2016.

4 Recipe of the Week JALAPENO TURKEY BURGERS WITH SWEET POTATO FRIES AND SIDE SALAD INGREDIENTS For Burgers: grams ground turkey breast 2 cloves of fresh garlic minced 1 egg 2 jalapenos sliced 1/4 cup plain whole wheat bread crumbs pinch of paprika salt and pepper For the toppings: 1 bunch of leaf lettuce 1 sliced red onion 1 avocado sliced 4 slices of reduced fat pepper jack cheese (or whatever you can find) For the side salad: 1 head of cos lettuce chopped 1-2 handfuls of snap peas sliced cucumbers sliced avocado 1 salad dressing (your choice) 4 servings of Sweet Potato Fries STEPS 1. To make burgers combine all burger ingredients thoroughly and make four patties. 2. Heat the grill and spray with cooking spray. 3. Grill burgers for 7-12 minutes or until cooked through. 4. 5 Next Round Round 8 was the last round of the social comp before Christmas. The social comp will return on 15 January 2018, just in time to burn off all the extra Christmas pounds. There will be a chance for players to review the design of the social comp (format, teams, BBQ etc.) during the break, so please feel free to contribute to the discussion (which I will kick off soon). 6 Final Word This week marks exactly one year since the Perth White Pointers were officially established during a Sunday session at the Court. And what a year it s been. From a handful of guys tossing a ball around the pool (and not knowing how to do that), to learning the game, to sending a team to the Pride Cup in Brisbane, to gaining an international following on social media, to participating in our first ever Pride March, to playing proper matches in our social comp, we ve come so far in the last 12 months. We ve made friendships. We ve laughed. We ve cried (well when playing the Skulls at least). And we ve had a hell of a time doing it. I want to thank each and every one of you for making the club what it is. In particular, I want to say a big thank you to our coaches, Katie, Georgina, Sean, Donna and everyone else who has stepped in. A big thanks to the committee, who have put in a huge amount of work behind the scenes. A big thanks also to Steve, MC, Travis and Co who helped put together our first ever Pride float. And most of all a big thanks to Gary, who founded the club and put it together from scratch. I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year.
