Kabo has been involved with the UNLV strength and conditioning department since He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and holds a Sports Nutrition Certification with IFA. Kabo is a Pennsylvania native and a 1999 graduate of Slippery Rock University (of Pennsylvania), with a bachelor s degree in exercise science. After volunteering and completing an internship in UNLV s strength and conditioning department, he was promoted to assistant strength and conditioning coach and then assistant director in He is in his 11th year overall working with the men's basketball program, and also works with women's basketball, baseball, volleyball, women's golf and the swimming and diving programs at UNLV. 5 7 Support Staff Rocky Rutledge Asst. Director of Athletics Equipment Sage Sammons Asst. Director of Media Relations Chris Bonnell Director of Marketing Marissa Nichols Graduate Athlete Academic Advisor Providing the best possible preventive and rehabilitative care, the UNLV women's golf athletic training staff is headed by Director of Athletic Training Kyle Wilson. Made possible by a generous gift of $1.5 million by Marilyn and Si Redd, the athletic training facility incorporates the total scope of sports medicine over an 8,500-square-foot area. Aside from five staff offices, a rehabilitation room houses a dozen pieces of equipment including Cybex stationary bicycles, stair machines and treadmills, all under a natural skylight. The largest area features a dozen tables to offer student-athletes various treatments throughout the day. Taping, padding and bracing all take place in another all-inclusive room. Finally, an aquatic therapy room features three above-ground whirlpools surrounding a 10-feet deep pool for rehabilitative exercises. All of these features make it possible for UNLV student-athletes to rehabilitate injuries without ever needing to leave the Lied Athletic Complex. Other amenities include a physician's office and exam room to provide daily medical service for student-athletes. A drug-testing facility also is part of the new complex. This expedites medical care because the student-athletes health care is self-contained. Also, UNLV's academic program and its student athletic trainers benefit from a sports medicine library, study room and conference facility. Athletic Training Kyle Wilson Director of Athletic Training "Aside from being four times larger than our former facility," says Kyle Wilson, UNLV's Director of Athletic Training. "This is one of the top complexes in the nation because of the versatility it offers to service student-athletes in every area of sports medicine. We're now more efficient, more accessible and more effective in preventing and rehabilitating athletic injuries."

6 8 Mountain West Craig Thompson Mountain West Quick Facts Founded: 1998 Commissioner: Craig Thompson Mailing Address: Gleneagle Drive, Suite 200 Colorado Springs, CO Phone: Fax: W. Golf Contact: Katie Cavender Office Phone: THIS IS THE MOUNTAIN WEST The Mountain West was conceived on May 26, 1998, when the presidents of eight institutions -- Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming -- decided to form a new NCAA Division FBS intercollegiate athletic conference. The split from a former 16-team conference re-established continuity and stability among the membership within the new league and signaled the continuation of its tradition-rich, long-standing athletic rivalries. Three of the MW s eight original members have been conference rivals since the 1960s (New Mexico, Wyoming and Colorado State), while San Diego State (1978) and Air Force (1980) were longtime members as well. UNLV and TCU entered the fold in 1996 and the Rebels continued as one of the original eight institutions that formed the MW in With conference realignment sweeping the nation in recent years, the MW has been proactive in addressing membership changes. Boise State joined the Mountain West in , followed by Fresno State and Nevada, Reno on July 1, Also on July 1, 2012, Hawai i became a football-only member of the Conference. On May 4, 2012, the Mountain West announced the additions of San Jose State and Utah State as full-time members effective July 1, From its inception in 1999, the Mountain West has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics, while promoting the academic missions of its member institutions. Progressive in its approach, the MW continues to cultivate opportunities for studentathletes to compete at the highest level, while fostering academic achievement and sportsmanship. The Mountain West is noted for its geographic diversity. Some of the most beautiful terrain and landscapes in the nation can be found within its boundaries, including the majestic Rocky Mountain range, which borders four MW institutions (Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State and New Mexico). The inclusion of the Hawai i football program extends the Mountain West footprint to the beautiful islands in the Pacific Ocean. Mountain West members have participated in 51 bowl games under the league umbrella, including four appearances in BCS games. The MW has earned 61 postseason bids in men s basketball, including 33 NCAA appearances and two NIT Final Four berths. MW women s basketball has tallied 57 postseason slots, including 31 NCAA bids, five Sweet 16 appearances and one Elite Eight berth since The MW has produced 762 All-America selections among its 18 sponsored sports in the last 13 years. A total of 125 MW student-athletes have also earned Academic All-America accolades in that span. The Mountain West has captured three team national championships in men s cross country and produced 32 individual national champions.

8 10 Season Outlook Winning a championship is hard, but repeating as conference champions is even more difficult. That will be the task at hand for the UNLV women s golf in the season. The Rebels return all five players that helped the team win the Mountain West championship, which was the fourth in school history. The return of all of that experience is rare amongst in college athletics, let alone golf. Our experience is a very important component coming into the season, head coach Amy Bush-Herzer said. Everyone came together at the end of last season and they are pushing each other to get better and that is huge for our team. The heart of the lineup is three juniors: Dana Finkelstein, Marguerite Swearingen and Mayko Chwen Wang. They all have played over 50 rounds of golf in just two years of competition. Their experience will help the Rebels grow from a young squad into a veteran team. As a unit, it is really cool to see how Dana, Marguerite and Mayko get along, Bush-Herzer said. They are genuinely friends on and off the course. To have that as a solid group moving through school together is a really neat thing to see as a coach. They also can share a lot with our new kids coming in because they have played a lot of rounds and have a ton of experience. The two other returners are seniors that have helped the team tremendously. Demi Mak finished runner-up at the Mountain West Championship during her first year as a Rebel and Katerina Prorokova has played in 80 rounds during her UNLV career which ranks 10th, in program history. We want both of our seniors to leave their mark on our program in a great way, Bush-Herzer said. They both have a lot of experience and can help lead our team. The Rebels also bring in three newcomers. Freshmen Vivian Chen, Avery French and Kiley Ballew join the team with great potential. Chen and French have played well in big events and bring that experience to UNLV. Ballew hails from the Las Vegas Valley and had an outstanding prep career at Arbor View High School. THE SCHEDULE The UNLV women s golf team schedule will challenge them this season as they will play in many of the sport's high-profile tournaments. The Rebels open with two tournaments held by Mountain West schools. The first is the Colonel Bill Wollenberg s Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colorado. This is the third consecutive season UNLV opens its season at the Ram Classic and last year the team finished third. Next on the schedule will be a trip to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. Last fall, the Rebels led the tournament after the first day, but finished tied for second. UNLV will then travel to the Lone Star State to play in the Betsy Rawls Invitational hosted by Texas. This is the second consecutive year the Rebels will play in the tournament and they will look to improve on a 10th-place finish from last October. Wrapping up the Fall season will be the Rebels' only home tournament of the year as they will host the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. This will be the second consecutive year that the tournament will be played at the Stallion Mountain Golf Club. The Spring season will open with a trip to Stanford, Calif., for the Peg Barnhard Invitational. The tournament will be played at the Stanford Golf Club, where the Rebels competed in the NCAA Regional last spring. UNLV will then play three tournaments in March (Bruin Wave Invitational (Woodland Hills, Calif.), Clover Cup (Mesa, Ariz.) and The Farms Invite (San Diego, Calif.) and one tournament in April (Silverado (Napa, Calif.) before traveling back to Rancho Mirage, Calif., for the Mountain West Championship. Our goal is to be back-to-back Mountain West champions, Bush-Herzer said. But to do that, we need to start winning tournaments during the regular season. After winning it all last year, our girls know they have the ability to win tournaments, which is good, and that needs to carry over into this season. The NCAA Regional sites are in Tallahassee, Fla., Stillwater, Okla., and Seattle, Wash. And the NCAA Championship will take place in Tulsa, Okla. on May 21-24, 2014.
