8 TEEN CHALLENGE GOLFER INFORMATION INVITATIONAL HOW DOES THE "GOLF CLASSIC 100"WORK? You and 35 other crazy golfers will tee off at 8.30am with a goal of playing over 100 holes of golf by late afternoon. You will be playing in an individual stroke play event with a "Shot Gun Start". Each golfer will start at the same time at one of the 18 tees using modified rules, which are set up to foster a spirit of fast play. Each golfer will have his own cart - and we encourage players to recruit a caddie (a caddie is someone you can "con" into driving the golf cart for the day). A caddie can also help you raise support and play some of your holes as well, if you so wish. CAN I PICK ANYONE TO BE MY CADDIE? Yes. Your caddie is very important, especially if you have a heavy bag. (Just kidding). Your caddie will be responsible for driving your cart and helping you throughout the day. It has been our experience that you can play faster, have more fun, and have a better chance of winning if you recruit a caddie. MAY I CHOOSE WHO I PLAY WITH? Yes. We encourage you to put together your own pairs. You may play more holes and have more fun if you are playing with your regular golfing buddies. If you do not form your own pairing, we will be glad to put you on a team and give you some assistance on tournament day. I WOULD HAVE TO BE CRAZY TO PLAY OVER 100 HOLES OF GOLF IN A DAY. IS IT REALLY POSSIBLE? Of course it's possible! In fact, a 68-year-old man in Oceanside, California played over 130 in one day. Another man in Sydney played 162 holes in one day. You will be amazed at how quickly you can play and how much fun you'll have! What a sense of accomplishment you will feel at the end of the day, knowing that you will have played a significant role for this cause. Besides, how many people do you know who can say they have played over 100 holes of golf in one day? WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE "GOLF CLASSIC 100"? Each participant and caddie will receive all the free golf, food and fun they can consume in one day! Self-support of $1/hole is required, so you can say to others you are seeking support from, that you personally support Teen Challenge because of the results you see from the Teen Challenge programs. All we ask is that you raise a minimum of $1500 in support. That is like getting 15 friends or business associates to support you for $1 per hole, or 30 friends to support you for 50 per hole. Some people might be intimidated about having to raise support, but you will be amazed at how many people will get behind what you are doing just because you believe enough in the cause to play 100 holes of golf in one day. WHERE WILL THESE FUNDS GO? Do you want to get involved with an organisation that is making a difference in fighting the war on drugs? You can! "Teen Challenge of WA" (started in 1985) is an organisation that helps to rescue young people with life controlling problems such as drugs or alcohol. Teen Challenge has a documented success rate of 86% (University of Tennessee Study on "Effectiveness of Drug Treatment Programs") for graduates of the year long residential program. As a non-profit organisation, Teen Challenge requires your help to reach those people who so desperately need help! 11 HOW TO RAISE SUPPORT AND WIN GREAT PRIZES! 1. While collecting support is not an activity you participate in frequently, you have a lot going for you. People will want to support you because it is you that is asking. You spend your life developing quality relationships through personal or business contacts and when you ask, people respond. You are helping young people with substance abuse problems turn their lives around! Your contacts will support you, if you ask. 2. Make a list of 25 to 50 names and phone numbers and addresses of people whom you can contact. (A script is included in this packet). Don't forget to include companies and small businesses in your list. A banner will be erected at the "Golf Classic 100", for those companies which support a golfer for $5 per hole or more, if they provide the banner. 3. Start making phone calls to the people on your list that you are closest to, and use the script (enclosed) to challenge them. Don't forget to be BOLD, challenging them to support you for $2, $3 or even $5 per hole to start with. You can always suggest a lower amount if they just ask for it. Remember, people respond to a challenge more than they do to a question. Say "I want to challenge you to get involved by supporting me in a "Golf Classic 100"", rather than "Do you think you would be interested?" 4. Get other people, such as parents or good friends, to help you reach your goals. You should also approach members of your Church, Social Club and friends at work, especially golfers, to support you. 5. Don't get discouraged if you get some rejections. That is why your list is made up of 50 names. If you keep plugging along, and keep talking to people, you WILL be successful. Also, continue to add to your original list DAILY, because you will continue to think of other people to challenge. 6. Make it fun by telling your potential supporter how much of a sacrifice it is, both physically and time-wise, to play 100 holes of golf in one day. Explain the originality of the concept, because people are going to respond positively to you if they see you are committed to the cause. 7. Don't quit, even if you reach your goal. The more support you raise, the more likely you will win extra prizes and incentives. 8. We have now come to the most critical part of the event, YOU! The success or failure of the event depends on your commitment. Teen Challenge will work to equip you to fulfil your commitment, and will assist you with any difficulties that may arise. We are also available to provide ideas, suggestions and encouragement when needed. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. 9. What you accomplish within the next few weeks will yield long-lasting benefits to hundreds of lives that need your help. Your best efforts to raise $1,500 or more, and by playing at least 100 holes of golf, will be great. With your help, we can make a difference in our community! As you go about your day, think of people you can ask to support you. The more people you ask, the more support you will raise, and most importantly, the larger impact you will make for Teen Challenge. Above all else, remember YOU ARE NOT A SALESPERSON. When seeking support on a "per hole" basis, we have found that people respond more positively to a challenge, so we recommend challenging people to support you for at least 50 or a $1 per hole, preferably $2, $3, or even $5 per hole played. Remember, you can always reduce your challenge amount, but it is not as easy to increase a challenge after an amount has been offered. You can also ask people to give a fixed amount of money for your participation in the event. This is generally a good idea if you know you will not be able to complete 100 holes of golf. SEND A PERSONALISED LETTER to people asking them to consider becoming a supporter. (Form letter enclosed). CALL EACH PERSON to whom you mailed a letter within one week. Ask if they received your letter; and if they would like to support you. Reminder: most people will say "yes", and will respect you for your efforts to help Teen Challenge. HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE COLLECTED? SUPPORT FORMS BACK SECTION If at all possible, please collect all "lump sum" pledges at the time of the commitment and we will collect them from you on the morning of the "Golf Classic 100". Once you turn in the supporter forms, your commitment ends. We do all the correspondence with your supporters, including appreciation letters and information on their pledge amount. After the "Golf Classic 100", we will send your "per hole" supporter a special thank-you letter telling them the number of holes you played and the amount of their pledge total. It is extremely important when you fill in the names and addresses of your supporters on your support forms that you do so legibly so that we are able to send out the thank you letters to the correct address. Bring completed forms with you on the morning of the Golf Classic 100. Once you turn in the supporter forms, your commitment ends. We do all the correspondence with your supporters, including appreciation letters and information on their pledge amount. WHAT IF I DON'T RAISE THE MINIMUM SUPPORT PER HOLE? This "Golf Classic 100" is a very special event. At what other time would you have the opportunity to play a month's worth of golf in one day? We are thrilled to have you join us as a "Golf Classic 100" participant. Your commitment of time and energy in raising your support is critical to the success of the event. Since there are only limited spaces available in the "Golf Classic 100", your role is crucial. We are asking that, if you choose to participate, you will do all that is in your power to raise as much money as possible. A minimum of $1500 support money is required to make you eligible to compete. 8

You might say something like this INVITATIONAL Golfer John, you won't believe what I've signed myself up for! I'm going to attempt to play over 100 holes of golf from dawn till dusk! John You're going to do what? Golfer I've signed up to play in this year's Teen Challenge "Golf Classic 100". Are you familiar with this? John No, what is it all about? Golfer Teen Challenge of WA is an organisation that reaches out to young people with life controlling problems such as drugs or alcohol. Teen Challenge has a documented success rate of 86% for graduates of the year long residential programme. As a non-profit organisation Teen Challenge seeks your help to reach those people who so desperately need it! John It sounds like a great organisation. How does the "Golf Classic 100" work? Golfer The way it works is I get friends to support me for every hole I play. My goal is to survive, and also play at least 100 holes. To show my support for Teen Challenge I am personally supporting myself for a $1.00 per hole. Will you be one of my supporters? John Yes, I think I will. Anyone crazy enough to play in a "Golf Classic 100" from dawn until dusk deserves my support. What does that entail? Golfer Well, most people support between $1 and $5 per hole. John Why don't you put me down for a dollar a hole. Golfer That's great! Your pledge will make a difference. And after I recover, you'll receive a letter to let you know many holes I played. TEEN CHALLENGE INVITATIONAL Let me tell you a story about one of our golf players who earned himself a set of Greg Norman Graphite Clubs with the minimum of fuss, and at the same time assisted Teen Challenge reach youth at risk. He had to raise $5,000 to earn this prize. He had his secretary run the names off the computer of all the people (companies etc.) that he deals with through his company (it was about 300) and had her send them a letter and response form (copy enclosed) with a return stamped envelope. As you can see from his letter he gently encouraged them to support him in this "Golf Classic 100" and in so doing assist WA youth and families. He earned his golf clubs easily!! His bright idea helped him, but also greatly assisted us to teach school children through our Say NO to Drugs program about the dangers of "Running Away" and "Drugs", and also teach concerned parents through our "Solutions Seminar" and positive interventions. You can help W.A. youth and families by encouraging your business contacts to support you in this "Golf Classic 100". 10

I was smart, healthy - and unhappy. I felt insecure, like I was never good enough, even when I was excelling. I had lots of friends but I felt unloved. I was lonely and confused - so I started taking drugs. After a while drugs are what I lived for - they became a way of life. I wanted something better and thanks to Teen Challenge, I now have a 2nd chance at life. - Jenny Hello, my name is Stephen and I am Aboriginal. As a child growing up, I was well off, being brought up in a middle-class family. I had a good education, finished Yr 12 and had a bright future ahead of me. I was also good at sports, playing footy, basketball and rugby nearly all my life. In about Yr 10/11, I started experimenting with alcohol and marijuana and by age 16 I was right into partying. I spent another two and a half years smoking pot and getting drunk and then I came to the point where I thought I ve had enough. I didn t have any money, nothing I could call my own and no life. I knew I needed help but didn t know where to go or who to approach. Then my mum showed me a pamphlet on Teen Challenge and I thought Yes, this is the place for me. Now I have a new life and I just want to be an example of a Christian to my family and friends. - Stephen 5
