This year, the tournament will be played on the completely renovated Copperhead Course with its legendary finishing three holes, dubbed the Snake Pit it is a PGA Tour favorite. Players will have the option to play in an 18-hole scramble or an 18-hole individual stroke tournament. Scramble: It s perfect for the casual golfer who is looking for a relaxing afternoon on the greens. Individual stroke: This tournament serves as a qualifier for an entry spot on the FGCSA team at the GCSAA National tournament. Dear Turfgrass Professional, I am proud to invite the turfgrass industry to join the board of directors at the 65th Annual FTGA Conference & Show, back again this year at the beautiful Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort, just north of Tampa. We are excited to once again enjoy this wonderful setting that plays home to the annual PGA Tour Valspar Championship. New this year is a different format that breaks away from the traditional trade show. Making its debut is the Industry Networking format that will allow the industry partners and attendees to interact in this new and highly energized room layout. This setup is designed to allow our partners to have a more natural flow while making great connections. The ever-popular golf tournament will be played on Monday, September 25, on the Copperhead Course. A favorite among PGA Tour players, this tree-lined course features rolling terrain that can challenge even the longest of hitters. And be sure not to miss the many on-site amenities, including Packard s Steakhouse, Salamander Grille and the Loch Ness pool during your stay. Our educational program is turning into a can t miss opportunity. Education Committee Chair Dr. Laurie Trenholm of the, has put together several days of excellent education in all the turfgrass segments: sports turf, golf, lawn, landscape and sod production. In addition, the USGA Golf Program, Golf BMP Certification review and testing and the CORE CEU program is back again and will surely be popular. We are also excited to have Dr. Jim Brosnan from the University of Tennessee as a keynote speaker and guest presenter at this year s conference. Dr. Brosnan is quickly becoming the go-to guy for weed control programs and will offer some new insight into tackling even the most challenging problems. The annual Corn Boil will also be a highlight of the event and provides camaraderie and additional networking opportunities. During the Corn Boil, the popular raffle will take place to benefit the Florida Turfgrass Research Foundation. Please mark your calendars and join me for this excellent opportunity to relax, connect and learn with the industry s best. I look forward to seeing you all in September. Sincerely, Andrew J. Jorgensen, CGCS FTGA Vice President Conference & Show Chairman 2 Attendee Brochure is sponsored by

6 Conference Events MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 Golf Tournament The Annual Golf Tournament is one of our most popular events at the Conference & Show. Players have the option to play in an 18-Hole Scramble or an 18-Hole Individual Stroke Tournament. The Golf Tournament will be played on the Copperhead Course and lunch is provided for all golfers. Box lunch sponsored by n 18-Hole Scramble It s perfect for the casual golfer who is looking for a relaxing afternoon on the greens. n 18-Hole Individual Stroke This tournament serves as a qualifier for an entry spot on the FGCSA team at the GCSAA National tournament. The Copperhead Course has undergone a sixmonth restorative enhancement that honors golf course designer Larry Packard. Copperhead is a Par 71 with more than 7,200 yards. It is among the favorites of PGA Tour professionals because it plays host to the world s greatest golfers during the PGA Tour s annual visit to the resort for the Valspar Championship. Copperhead has tree-lined fairways with rolling terrain that defines the course, with an extraordinary challenge for even the longest hitters. Striking in beauty and challenge, the surrounding lakes and ponds are home to abundant wildlife, including fox squirrels, bald eagles, alligators, blue herons and many other types of water fowl. With the fairways and greens mostly free of residences, Copperhead offers the opportunity to enjoy golf the way nature intended. Cash Awards All closest-to-the-pin shots on the Par 3s will be awarded $75. Cash awards will also be given to the Individual Stroke winner ($150) and runner-up ($75), as well as Scramble Gross and Net teams ($300 each team). Awards and prizes will begin at 6:30 in the Inverness Foyer. Sports Turf & Landscape Tour John Mascaro will lead this year s Sports Turf & Landscape Tour to two outstanding facilities in the Tampa Bay area. We will visit the George M. Steinbrenner Field, home of the New York Yankees Training Camp and the summer home to the Yankees class A Affiliate Tampa Yankees. The stadium also serves as a venue for special events such as concerts, baseball tournaments, corporate events, etc. Next stop on the tour is a visit to the Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Theme Park, which features exquisitely manicured green spaces, bird gardens and wildlife in their natural habitat in addition to the theme park. Be sure to register early as the tour is limited to 50 participants and sells out quickly! Young Professionals Social Sponsored by Monday evening s festivities begin with the Young Professionals Social in the Inverness Foyer. This event is ideal for networking over cocktails and appetizers. The Young Professionals Network is dedicated to providing career-minded individuals with opportunities to develop socially, professionally and civically. All conference attendees under the age of 40 are welcome to attend and network with other young professionals. Opening Reception Immediately following the Young Professional Social, we will flow into the Opening Reception in the Inverness Foyer. During the reception, golfers will be able to commiserate about the putt that got away, and we will recognize winners with a Golf Awards presentation. Please join us for light hors d oeuvres, drinks, networking and this year s special feature live music. Golf Tournament Prizes sponsored by Vendor Hospitality Suites After the Opening Reception, wrap up the evening with the Conference sponsors and exhibitors. Vendors have the option of hosting you in their suites. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 Annual Meeting fast The day starts bright and early with the Annual Meeting fast. FTGA business will be discussed. We will provide information on association finances, review the 2016 annual minutes and elect new officers. All Attendee Awards Luncheon At the award luncheon, we will recognize our 2017 Wreath of Grass recipient. The Wreath of Grass is the FTGA s highest honor and pays tribute to individuals who have given outstanding service to the FTGA and to the turfgrass industry. We welcome another keynote speaker from the University of Tennessee, Dr. Jim Brosnan, associate professor in the Plant Sciences Department. Turfgrass scholarship recipients will also be announced at the luncheon. All Attendee General Education Session After lunch, this year s C&S will feature two all-attendee general sessions. Dr. Mark Clark or the University of Florida will address the group on Urban Stormwater Quality: The Need to Address More Than Fertilizer to Protect Downstream Water Resources followed by a Research Roundup panel discussion presented by Drs. J. Bryan Unruh and Adam Dale of the University of Florida. Industry Networking & Happy Hour We are shaking things up with a breath of fresh air at our brand-new Industry Networking and Happy Hour event. As part of the Conference & Show s focus on high-value industry networking, you will have a better opportunity to interact with attendees and industry partners on our newly designed trade show floor. The energized room setup is designed for a more natural flow to allow you to make great connections with exhibitors, industry professionals and colleagues! Corn Boil & Raffle Tuesday draws to a close with the traditional Corn Boil in the Inverness Ballroom. We ll serve up steak and all the fixin s and of course, corn. Wine and beer is on the house, so get ready to kick back and relax, network and catch up with folks you haven t seen for a while. Bring your wallet because we re raising money for the Florida Turfgrass Research Foundation (FTRF). The scholarships we provide help to keep young talent in the industry. Research & Scholarship Fundraiser Do you know what the fundraising money goes toward? Each year, the FTRF offers scholarships to college students who are enrolled in turfgrass management programs. During the Corn Boil, this year s Fundraiser once again has two fundraising events: one BIG-ticket item raffle and the 50/50 Show-down. All proceeds will go toward the FTRF which funds industry research projects and student scholarships. The FTRF is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization, so all donations and contributions are tax deductible. 50/50 Showdown This is just what it sounds like split the pot, with a twist. Tickets will be sold throughout the Conference & Show and again during the Corn Boil for $10.00 each or 5 for $ The size of the pot that is split with the FTRF will be determined by the number of tickets sold (one year it was nearly $3,000). You don t have to attend the Corn Boil to win. Just let an FTGA staffer represent you (for 10 percent of your winnings donated to the FTRF). The 50/50 Showdown will be a two-stage showdown. First, 15 tickets will be drawn as finalists. Then finalists will be eliminated by a second drawing where the ticket drawn loses. This will continue until there is one finalist or until the remaining finalists unanimously agree to share equally in the pot. FTGA staff, if involved, can only vote for sharing. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 Prayer fast The prayer breakfast begins our third and final day of the Conference & Show. Our guest speaker is best-selling author Nathan Whitaker. 6 Attendee Brochure is sponsored by
