1 CELEBRATING 11 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Philadelphia Chapter - American Singles Golf Association May 2004 Come Join Us At the May Kick-off Meeting! Philadelphia Chapter will hold its annual Kick-off Meeting on May 12 th at the Radnor Hotel in the Terrace Room at 6:30 pm. Come join us and bring a friend. Our membership committee will be available with information on The American Singles Golf Association and a coupon for $10 off your first outing will be offered for those who join that evening. Any member that brings a guest will receive free raffle tickets for the 50/50 drawing. The Golf Committee has completed an exciting golf calendar for this season, which includes 3 weekend trips and several new golf courses. Golf fliers will be available for those who wish to sign-up that evening. Cash Bar and snacks will be served. Hope to see you on May 12 th. - Shirley Marengo President, Philadelphia Chapter 2004 Masters Event Twenty-three ASGA golfers participated in our 2 nd annual Masters Event on Saturday April 10 th. Great weather and sunny skies allowed our participants to tee-off on time to compete for the green jacket. Longest drive went to Roseann Wolf and Andrea Loftus received closest-to-the-pin awards. Our last year champion, Bud Cori repeated as this year s winner edging out Kathy Moore and Andrea Loftus by one point. Bud gets to wear the green jacket another year. It was as close as the real masters event on the following day where Phil Michelson edged out Ernie Els. Rumor circulated about Barry Casey finding a price of tail on the seventh green. When Dan Redmond found out about it, he dropped his club and ran to help Barry look for more. Other notables: Marianne Carbine dropped a 35 foot putt on the 19 th hole and Andrea Loftus s foursome ap- We re keeping it fun first! preciated her ability to keep her drive in the fairway almost every hole to help their scoring. ASGA at the In Full Swing Golf Academy ASGA members Peggy McCarty, Debbie Kindt, Elaine Zapacosta, Lynn Procopio, Tom Gresko, John Souder, Dick Weaver, Fred Monkin were hosted by ASGA Social Director Eric Trefz to a fun filled evening at In Full Swing Golf Academy on April 7th. There was complimentary food and beer and a putting contest in which Eric won a prize for the longest putt. There was an indoor driving range and closest to the pin simulator. The event was part of a taping for the Comcast televison show Inside Monthly Meeting - Wednesday, May 12th Invite a Friend or Co-Worker to Come With You! The Philadelphia Chapter - American Singles Golf Association meets on the SECOND WEDNESDAY of each month at the Radnor Hotel (in St. Davids just off I-476). If you really want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age. 2. The game of golf is 90 percent mental and 10 percent mental. 3. Because bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the beginning of the next group of three. 4. When you look up and cause an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again. 5. Any change works for a maximum of three holes and a minimum of not at all. 6. No matter how bad you are playing, it is always possible to play worse. 7. Never try to keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your swing. 8. When your shot has to carry a water hazard, you can either hit one more club or two more balls. 9. If you're afraid a full shot might reach the green while the foursome ahead of you is still putting out, you have two options: you can immediately shank a lay-up, or you can wait until the green is clear and top a ball halfway there. 10.The less skilled the player, the more likely he is to share his ideas about the golf swing. 11.The inevitable result of any golf lesson is the instant elimination of the one critical unconscious motion that allowed you to compensate for all your errors. 12.If it ain't broke, try changing your grip. 13.Golfers who claim they don't cheat, also lie. 14.Everyone replaces his divot after a perfect approach shot. 15.Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts. 16.It's not a gimme if you're still away. 17.The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight line that passes directly through the center of a very large tree. 18.There are two kinds of bounces: unfair bounces, and bounces just the way you meant to play it. 19.You can hit a 2-acre fairway 10 percent of the time, and a 2-inch branch 90 percent of the time. 20.Every time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make two triplebogeys to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe. 21.If you want to hit a 7-iron as far as Tiger Woods does, simply try to lay up just short of a water hazard. 22.
