3 SPRING MILL PRO SHOP FROM THE GOLF SHOP Brendan Reedy Dear Members: A few things to keep in mind now that the end of the season is quickly approaching The Annual Christmas Sale will be held Saturday, December 8 th from 10 AM-6 PM. Complimentary beer, wine & cheese will be available for the serious shoppers. This year you will have to PUTT to SAVE! Slightly related, shop credit expires at the end of the year. This credit is issued for performing well in tournaments (or for some, just being on the right team). Your credit must be used in the golf shop on merchandise (in-stock or special orders). Please call the golf shop if you would like to know your balance. Shop hours can change daily if inclement weather dictates. Please call the shop ahead of time if there is any question it will be open. As a reminder, the golf shop is closed for the month of January. If you think you might need your golf clubs during that time please plan to pick them up sometime during December. Have a wonderful Holiday Season! Please have a safe and happy New Year! Looks like we are going to be setting a record for rainfall for the month of November. It has been an extremely wet year with many challenges. We have done our best trying to keep the course open and playable this season. I have to give our team a lot of credit for their hard work and dedication-could not do it without them! The new range project has also been affected by the unusually wet weather. Despite the best efforts of the contractors involved, we are a bit behind schedule. When you have this much rain, it makes it impossible to work some days. They are plugging away and moving forward a little at a time. We are having to sod a bit more than planned due to the soil temperatures being too low for germination. In large areas not economically feasible to sod, we will now be seeding with the addition of a straw blanket. Straw will keep the seed in place for when the weather allows for germination. The plan is to have holes 2 and 17 open as soon as the weather breaks in the spring with the new range seeing golfers by opening day. 4 A TIP FOR TEMPO By Vince Sullivan If you need some help to pace your swing, I have a terrific tip to lend a hand. So here we go: Timing is an intangible part of the game and also an integral part of a good golf swing. You have to feel it, as similarly, a pianist would need a metronome - clicking away with a steady tempo to help the musician play his tune on the piano. Now, after you address the ball, start the club back by making your left shoulder turn in concert with your left knee, while keeping your shoulders moving to complete the back swing. Next, start the downswing while keeping your right knee and your right shoulder working together. The right knee will make the letter K, and the right shoulder will be in line with the knee working down toward the ball. You may feel as if your right shoulder drops. If you practice these movements, it will give you a real sense of timing - and so - you might also practice your walk when you go up to the podium when you receive your trophy at the Champions Dinner. These tips will be a great way to practice your game while finishing this year - and then be ready to begin some great improved playing with your new, smooth-tempo game when entering your new great golf year. Remember, practice makes perfect. Sound good? So, play well with your new, smooth-paced swing, great tempo and timing. After all, Golf is a great game, so be sure to enjoy every moment. Only scores from areas that are still in active seasons can be posted to your handicap record. The Golf Association of Philadelphia will resume active score posting at the start of its next season, April 1, Furthermore, it will be revising handicaps during the offseason to incorporate any scores posted from other areas. The dates for these revisions are Jan. 1, Jan. 15, Feb. 1, Feb. 15, March 1 and March 15. What is your most memorable golf moment of 2018? The Golf Association of Philadelphia wants to know. WINTER KITCHEN WITH CHEF NICK BISCOTTI DI PRATO 2 ½ cups all purpose flour 1 cup sugar 1 tsp baking powder Pinch salt 2 eggs and 1 egg yolk 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 dash almond extract Sift together

Mix wet ingredient into the dry and knead into a firm dough. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a log about 12 inches long and 1 inch wide.

Lower temperature of oven to 325. Slice logs into 1 inch pieces on a angle so that they look mini biscotti. Place on parchment lined sheet tray and bake for 5 minutes. Makes about 48 small biscotti.

Place in a mixing bowl. Add ground almonds and chopped almonds. Beat eggs with vanilla and almond extract. Mix wet ingredient into the dry and knead into a firm dough. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a log about 12 inches long and 1 inch wide. Place on to parchment lined sheet tray. Beat egg yolk with milk and glaze each log of dough. Bake in oven at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and cool slightly. Lower temperature of oven to 325. Slice logs into 1 inch pieces on a angle so that they look mini biscotti. Place on parchment lined sheet tray and bake for 5 minutes. Makes about 48 small biscotti. ½ cup ground blanched almonds 2/3 cup raw almonds roughly chopped Glaze: 1 egg yolk 2 Tbsp milk MOSTACCIOLI CALABRESI Calabrian Honey Cookies 1 pound all-purpose flour 1 pound honey runny 2 tbsp anise flavored liquor 6 tbsp melted butter Mix all the ingredients together and knead into a firm dough. Roll dough out to ¼ inch. Using a knife or cookie cutter make into shapes of animals or figures. Decorate cutouts using a knife or different objects to indent the cookie dough. Bake at 300 until golden brown. Store in a sealed container for a few days to help moisten up. 1 pound blanched almonds 2 tsp almond extract 4 egg whites AMARETTUS Almond Macaroons 2 cups sugar 2 tbsp flour Natural almonds for top Grind the almonds in food processor until very fine add a little sugar as you are grinding the nut to keep it dry. Whip egg whites until stiff peak is formed. Add in the sugar and almond extract. Fold in the ground almonds and flour. Spoon out the cookies onto a buttered parchment paper.
