As we gear up for the New Year, it is my hope that the Club can continue to deliver the services and events that will live up to our members expectations just as we have done in 2018 and the years before. Having said that, you the members hold the keys to the Club in your hands. We have scheduled two very important meetings, the first to be held on January 22, 2019, and the second to be held on January 24, As I have alluded to before in this newsletter, these meetings will cover the gamut of how we keep this Club going for the years to come. Please make every effort you can to attend at least one of these meetings, as your feedback will govern the future direction of this Club. This, a much as anything, is a wonderful testament to the strength and caring nature of our membership-- especially given the fact that we have 25 fewer members than this same time last year.

Every once in a while, things just don t seem to go one s way despite everyone s best efforts.

The kitchen responded famously and quickly conjured up a take-home to make up for the SNAFU.

Buddy, who is a long time member and a 95 years-young pistol wasn t having a very good day with some soup he had ordered. The kitchen responded famously and quickly conjured up a take-home to make up for the SNAFU. We rushed the redo out to him in the parking lot and got a lot more than money can buy a huge smile and a big hug from a wonderful man who loves this Club and all that life has to offer. KUDOS GUYS! Just take a gander at the bunker on the right side of #9 green after 1.5 inches of rain the night before. It is draining very well and you don t see any washout. That s because Jeremy and his team cleaned and rerouted the draining system that had failed years before. They also built up the inside greenside edge of the bunker with new sod and loam to reduce washout. This is the first of many greenside bunkers that are in the schedule to be repaired over the next 2-4 months. Well done Jeremy and excellent cost containment with having only spent about $400 (minus labor) on this bunker! 2

3 January Quick Hits Nothing exudes the spirit of the holidays better than the Elizabeth Manor s Breakfast with Santa event on December 14. Many thanks to Del and Donna Grier, Cody Shumway, Rebecca Gallardo, and Jaclyn Abraham who attended to every need of approximately 30 kids and 35 adults as we welcomed Santa to the Manor. Every kid successfully relayed their Christmas wishes to Santa on a morning filled with fun, fantasy and holiday Joy. It was a good day as you can see below. 3

Congratulations to Ray Ramirez and Dr. Glen Morris for hole-in-ones at different courses, as they count too! Over the past few weeks, the golf course has transitioned into winter mode very quickly. As a reminder to the membership, the Bermuda grass is dormant this time of the year. Please make every effort to only take two carts to a group and obey all posts and signs on the golf course. Finally, I want to thank the membership for a terrific year. The golf staff looks forward to a bright and busy 2019 season. Greens by Jeremy Bailey The month of December has come and gone. We have had quite a bit of rain again this month. We are still continuing to blow and mulch leaves.

6 Greens by Jeremy Bailey The month of December has come and gone. We have had quite a bit of rain again this month. We are still continuing to blow and mulch leaves. We have also finished the bunker on #9. The drain is done and we have lowered the face. With the hard work of Robert Mace, Anthony Marion, Zachary Thompson, & Wallace White. I have comprised a list of bunkers whose drains I would like to fix. In order of priority all greenside #7, #14, #3, #13, #15 front left and backside, #5 left side and back right, #2 left, #17 front left, #6 right side, and #12 both left side. We will work on the faces as well throughout the process. The days are getting colder and we ve seen more frost out on the course. I ve been asked many times why we need to wait until the sun comes out to look for forming frost. So here is why frost forms at sunrise: All surfaces constantly lose heat at night through a process called radiative cooling, which becomes most noticeable as dew or frost forms on the leafy surfaces of ground-hugging plants like grass on clear, calm nights. If a blade of grass chills below the dew point temperature, airborne moisture will condense onto it, yielding dew at temperatures above freezing (32 degrees) and frost at subfreezing temperatures. Temperatures often continue to fall for a short time after sunrise though usually only a few degrees, because new heat input from sunlight is still less than radiative heat loss thereby continuing the formation of dew or frost, or initiating its onset. 6 Jeremy Bailey Greens Superintendent

Also, if you're planning a Super Bowl party, please keep up is in mind for your catering needs. Menu's and prices soon to follow! Lastly, here's a recipe for quick and easy holiday cookies for anybody in a last minute "jam"... Plum Jam Cookies Ingredients: 8 ounces butter 1 cup packed brown sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 cup water 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 pinch salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 cup plum preserves 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F( 190 degrees C). 2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Beat in the egg and water. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into the butter mixture until well blended. 3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a 2 inch round cookie cutter. Put half of the cookies onto a cookie sheet and spread 1/2 of a teaspoon of plum jam in the center of each one. With a thimble, or small cookie cutter, cut the center out of the remaining cookies. Place these on top of the jam topped cookies to make sandwiches. Press together. Bake cookies for 10 minutes then remove to a rack to cool. 8
