1 March came in like a Lion, so I know that we re all hoping that it goes out like a Lamb, and hopefully our April showers have already been accounted for by all the wet weather in January and February. Let s all look forward to some great springtime weather at our Club. There are several items of business that I need to mention to you that are vitally important to our Club. The first of these is nomination for Board members. As you know, we reorganize the Board after election of current members and/or new members at the May, 2019 meeting. If you would want to nominate a member to serve on Board, or to place your name in nomination, please let the office know. The second item is our membership drive that began on March 15. I am delighted to announce that since this membership drive began we have three new golf members. I ask that you all do your part to bring in those new memberships, and if you have any questions about how you can personally benefit from recruiting new members, please ask us. The third item on my list is the Friends Program which has contributions now totaling $78, Many thanks to all of you who have been so generous and unselfish. Fourth, the tennis court renovation study is well under way and the fund raising for that project has begun and we hope to have significant progress in that area. While I am speaking about the Club conditions, we will be aerating, seeding and fertilizing the golf course in mid- April as scheduled. The spring time is something that we all look forward to, so take a look at your Club calendar, look at the Club activities available and partake of those. Speaking of partaking, please go to the Grill Room on our Wednesday and Friday night dining and check out Chef Cody s creations. He and his staff continue to do a marvelous job for us, so let s use it. Have you ever heard of Pickle Ball? I was speaking to Marie Nicolo, our Board secretary and avid tennis player, and she tells me that our tennis pro has Pickle Ball equipment available. If you are not familiar with this game, it appears to be an activity that has literally swept across the Nation. It appears to be quite a bit of fun (it s played on a down sized tennis court), and you probably won t grind up your knees as badly as you might when playing tennis. Please check it out! Who knows? We still need to raise enough funds to pay the TBD tennis court contractor for resurfacing the (4) hard courts (#1-4) AND we need to complete project before early Fall. Joanne Meagher is heading up project oversight and has organized project volunteers. Please commit all pledges to Joanne at We will be meeting with contractors March Adult World Team Tennis EMGCC: 4.0 NTRP League will play on Tuesdays and the 3.5 League will play on Thursdays. Our 9-week Spring Season is slated to start April 2 and 4. Play is from 6:30-8:45 pm. Signup and more details are available through Tennis Shop. The Leagues will be scheduled to play (3) consecutive 9-week (Spring, Summer, and Fall) seasons plus additional rain makeup dates. It s not too late to signup! Ladies Lunch Leagues : The Wednesday and Friday Spring Leagues begin our 8-week Home/Away schedule April 24 / 26 and finish June Match times: 9:30 11:30 am with lunch provided by the home team. Players approximate levels: Wednesday league NTRP and Friday league NTRP. Ladies, please confirm your availability with Mike. 6 The month Of March has come to an end. With warmer temperatures predicted, we are preparing for our Spring greens aerification. On the 8 th of April we will be aerifying holes #16, #17, #18, and the practice greens. On the 15 th and 16 th we will aerify the remaining greens on the course. We have also had the opportunity to meet and speak to the city of Portsmouth Public Works. They will be doing some ditch and drainage work along both sides of Ace Parker Road. This should help alleviate some of our flooding issues we ve had recently, due to all the wet weather. They will then be following up twice a year for routine maintenance on ditches and drains. 7 Women s Golf Association The trees and flowers are showing signs of Spring and hopefully the weather will cooperate. EMWGA Ladies Day kicks off April 2nd so dust off those clubs and I will see you on the first tee (9:30am). Joy Axson is the Ladies Day Chair. Our Member-Member Tournament will be held May 7. If there are any questions, please contact Cindy Morris, tournament chair. The sign up sheet is posted in the Ladies locker room. A kick off meeting for the EMWGA Open to be held in June is April 9. Please support Micki Campbell and volunteer to help to make this tournament the best in Tidewater. A warm welcome to our new members of the EMWGA, Alexis James and Kathy Werneke. $33.00 was collected at our monthly meeting in March for the HER Shelter which is our designated charity. If you are not a member of our association, please consider joining. The yearly membership is $30.00 which allows one to participate in our events and Ladies Day held each Tuesday of the month. Brown Sugar-Mustard Glaze 1/2 Cup Packed Brown Sugar 3 Tablespoons Honey 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard 1 Tablespoon Pineapple Juice 1.
