2 President s Message Dear Members, Fall is officially underway and in my opinion is the best time of the year to enjoy golf. The course looks great and the greens are improving more and more everyday. I would like to thank Jason and his crew for getting us through the dog days of summer. On October 17 th, we will have our Annual Membership meeting at 5:30 pm. The focus of the meeting will be the tabulation of votes for the Referred Item #1 (Capital Improvement Project) and our proposed board members; Mary Lynn Dickey, Todd Holcomb & Bill Collins. I would like to thank the Nominating committee for interviewing and nominating the candidates. The Nominating committee was Royce LoBianco (committee chairman), Jeff Deloney, Mark Johnston, Bill Craven & Rick Price. The meeting will be an opportunity for questions and answers with the Board and staff, so please plan on attending. October looks to be a great month with an increase of events, so please check the calendar, so you will not be disappointed with a conflict. The Swingaroo Member- Guest is scheduled for October 6 th 8 th and promises to be a wonderful event and a great opportunity to show off our club to potential members. In closing, I would like to encourage everyone to come on out, bring your guests and enjoy the course and fall weather. Also, please remember to fix your ball marks and divots. See you at the Club! Your President, Mary Lynn Dickey NOTICE TO MEMBERS: ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING According to the By-Laws, the Annual Meeting of the membership of the Club shall be held on the third Sunday of October each year. Due to a conflict with the annual Mayor s Cup Tournament, the Board 1206 has decided that it is in the Club s best interest to change the date and time of the Annual Meeting. The meeting will be held at 5:30p.m., on Tuesday, October 17 th in the Main Dining Room. The entire membership is invited to attend.

3 Manager s Message With the fall season upon us, the golf schedule starts to slow and the banquet & event schedule becomes active. Please check your calendar for all of our events, parties and Chef s specials. I would like to welcome the newest member of the MCC staff, Monica Young, Director of Membership & Special Events. Monica comes to us from Southwest Regional Medical Center where she served as Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator. Monica is very active in the community and is excited about the opportunity to promote Maumelle Country Club. Monica will join the staff on October 9 th. Please make it a point to stop by and meet Monica. Our Membership drive continues to produce positive numbers and we have been working hard to meet the Board s goal each month. By now you should have noticed the flyers and banners around the Club and Maumelle regarding the Oktoberfest party. This is a joint venture by the Membership & Entertainment Committees to provide a great party for all who attend and an opportunity to showcase our Club to potential new members. If you haven t purchased your tickets, you may do so at the Club. Don t miss this opportunity to have a great time and help attract new members to MCC. Remember that the Member Rewards program is still available to all members who recruit new members to the Club. Call Monica with any prospective members! Don t forget to get your favorite Halloween costume dusted off for the 2006 MCC Wild West Murder Mystery Party, October 27 th from 7:00 pm til the witching hour of midnight. There will be ghoulish hors d oeuvres and costume contests for all involved. Call Monica to sign up! Cimarron Grubb General Manager MWGA News Thank you to everyone who helped with the renovation of the Ladies Locker Room! Anna Murray did a wonderful job on the design work and special thanks to Mike Claud, who is now an official non-dues paying member of the MWGA! Congratulations to Dottie Hughes who had her first birdie on #16! From the Pro Shop Way to go Dottie! As our golf season winds down, we are looking forward to some cooler weather for play in October. Maumelle will host the Little Rock City Golf Association on October 11th, so we will not have regular play on that day. Our final meeting of the year will be on October 18 & the final Mixed Event of the year is scheduled for October 22 nd. Lastly, the ASGA Two Woman Scramble will be held on October 23 & 24 at MCC. Thanks to Cimarron, there is no requirement 2676 to join the ASGA in order to participate. Entry forms are available in the Ladies Locker Room. Candace Barker, President

4 From the Pro Shop Fall at Maumelle Country Club can be one of the most enjoyable times of the year for golfing. The cool temperatures and beautiful scenery provide optimal playing conditions. The golf schedule continues into fall with several events on the books. The 2006 Maumelle Country Club Swingaroo Member-Guest will be held October 6 th 8 th. The 5 th Annual Mayor s Cup, October 14 th & 15 th, will provide excitement as 24 of Maumelle s finest tee off against the CC of Arkansas for two days of intense Ryder Cup competition. Come show your support as MCC hosts the first round on October 14 th. The Men s Club Championship was held over Labor Day weekend and as always the final day turned out to be exciting. Eddie Craven held off a late charge from Tom Kratzke to win his second consecutive 1425 Club Championship title. Congratulations on your win, Eddie and thank you to all who participated. New equipment and fall merchandise is arriving daily, so stop by and be the first to get your game & wardrobe up to PAR! Early reminder all Pro Shop credit must be used by the end of the year. Just a quick update on the status of the driving range net. The insurance claim has been completed and the new net has been ordered. There are only a few companies across the country that specialize in this type of netting. We have hired the services of Action Sports in Florida. The process will take approximately 3 weeks to be completed. The new installation will be more secure and help prevent the damage that we received in August. Thanks for your patience with this matter! Please make a note of the following change in Pro Shop hours of operation: As of October 1 st, the driving range will be closing at 6:30p.m. Daylight savings time ends on Sunday, October 29 th. Starting that day, the Pro Shop hours will be from 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. and the driving range will close at 5:00p.m. Thank you for your cooperation. The late fee will be assessed as in accordance with the Club s bylaws (Article IV, Section 5). With the cooler temperatures, the greens are making a comeback. Everyone knows the damage that the greens received due to the lack of irrigation following the August 11 th storm. For several weeks, the temperatures were just too hot for bent grass to grow. Now that the days and nights are cooler, the bent grass is making a comeback. We continue to promote growth by applying fertilizers every chance we get. This is all positive news, but we 2002 must have patience. Over the next several weeks, we will be lightly topdressing and rolling the greens in order to create a better playing surface without stressing the turf. You should notice continued improvements every week until the greens are completely healed. So have a great round and I look forward to seeing you on the course! Jason Baker, GCS MGA NEWS Please make plans to participate in the final MGA event of the year, the 2-Man Scramble & MGA Appreciation Day, October 28th. The MGA Board would like to thank all of the members who participated in the 2006 events. We will be meeting in the near future to plan the calendar for 2007 and to discuss with Jason any projects that the MGA can help fund.
