I want to thank everyone who attended the Valentine s Dinner. Some have told me it was the best meal they ve ever had here (Pat Johnson). I hope all attendee s had a good night and the ladies enjoyed the rose that their men paid for! They re so thoughtful ladies! Spa night was a great night as well. I know the ladies who attended got their chocolate fix for the month! Chocolate martinis, chocolate fountain with all kind of goodies to dredge in the chocolate, chocolate covered pretzels, etc... all calorie free!! Am I a good G.M. or what? We ll be keeping the restaurant open later starting March 10 th as we start Daylight Savings Time on March 8 th. Don t forget to set your clocks ahead! The summer hours are 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. We are looking for a breakout year for the club and with the new greens that Jason is tending, we ll have the best golf course in Central Arkansas1093 to sell to prospective members. Check your calendar for upcoming events and come out and see us for dinner. There s always some kind of fun going on at the club. 4 March 09 Newsletter Page 4 G O L F C O U R S E U P DA T E Spring should be right around the corner! I sure hope so! With the change of seasons the course will come alive! Everything will start turning green and when the temperatures warm up the turf will start growing. We will begin applying several different fertilizer packages to the greens so they are ready to start growing when the temperatures are right. We still have to keep a careful eye on the weather, covers will be very important if we have a late cold snap! I am very excited for the growing season to begin so I can show the membership how good these greens really are! I am looking forward to August for the first time in 12 years! This month we will be applying our spring pre-emerge on our fairways, tees and roughs. This is a very important application to keep our playing surfaces weed free through the spring and summer. Jason Baker Golf Course Superintendent F RO M T H E P RO S H O P Upcoming Golf Events March 7, 2009 MGA 10:00 am March 28, 2009 MGA 9:00 am Spring is nearly here and you know what that means! Golf Season is just around the corner! I want everyone to keep in mind that it is very important you call and make tee times as well as keep us updated on how many players you will be having. As we get518 busier it will be harder to accommodate walk-ins and extra groups that you do not have tee times for. It is also critical that you tee off on time. Please limit yourself to one (1) ball off the first tee unless you hit it OB, but I know everyone is too good to hit it OB so we won t mention that again. A slow golf course is no fun for anyone. I can t stress this enough: Please make sure your group has the correct amount of tee times. February was an interesting month. The weather was up and down, but when the weather was nice we had a decent amount of play. This was the case with the Super Bowl Scramble. We had a huge turn-out; in fact it filled up roughly two weeks before the tournament. I hope everyone had a great time. Be on the lookout for more upcoming great events, such as MGA, Couples, MWGA, and Mixed Scrambles. Before long the course will be greening up. Let s give Jason and Andy a huge round of applause for keeping the course in great shape thru winter. I am looking forward to this summer as I know they will have just as good of product. Please keep in mind this is a team effort. We all have to do our part. If everyone would take the time to fix 2-3 ball marks on each green, we can make everyone s round more enjoyable, increase speed of play, and help Jason and Andy in the process. It only takes a few seconds to fix a ball mark. With tournament season about to get started I have put together an interesting Rules Clinic that will help everyone learn the ropes. We will focus on everything from proper etiquette, the correct way to drop a ball, to what happens if your ball comes to rest in a golf cart. The clinic will be March 24 5:30. The cost will be $50 per person. It will last roughly two hours. I encourage everyone to come experienced, inexperienced, novice, and expert. This can be fun for everyone. It will be a great place to ask as many questions about the rules as you like. Remember, no question is too dumb so don t feel intimidated. 5 March 09 Newsletter Page 5 P R E S I D E N T S M E S S A G E We ve had a few warm days recently and the daffodils are blooming. Spring must be close. It won t be long until our golfing season is in full swing. Our greens are in great shape and will only get better. Jason and his crew have done a marvelous job. I am pleased to report that we have renegotiated our loan with TCB with a lower interest rate. They lowered our rate by 2 percentage points. This will result in a savings of over $30,000 annually; however, for this year, we are interest only for nine months which will save us approximately $9,000 per month. Our Valentines Dinner was well attended. Jeff, Tony and their staff did an excellent job serving a wonderful meal. Almost every month there is a special dinner event. If you haven t yet attended one of these, make plans to do so. You won t be disappointed. The ladies chocolate lovers night was a huge success. These Ladies Night Out programs have been really popular, so make your plans early. Our 40 th anniversary as a club is this June. Our membership committee will be putting together a drive to commemorate our 40 th year. Be sure to check our calendar for events. This is a big milestone for us. We should all be proud of our facilities. We had several new members in February. Please welcome them into our family. See you at the club. Rolfe Kennedy M WG A N E W S March is finally here and it is time for all of us ladies to get out on the golf course. Our first play day is March 4 with a 10:00a.m. start. It is a scramble so, everyone come on out and have some fun. We will have lunch and meeting following play. Dues for the year are $25.00 and you can pay your dues at the meeting following play on Wednesday. Checks should be made payable to the MWGA and given to Sandy Carpenter. Again, I want to ENCOURAGE all women to come and join our ladies group. We have players of all levels. If you don't want to play 18 holes, we have a 9 hole group. Please sign up in the pro shop by 5:00pm on Tuesday or if you miss the deadline, you can call CAROLYN WATTS at We are going to have a fun filled year and you don't want to miss out on all the fun. The box is located in the hall right across from the accounting office. We ask that all payments be put in the locked payment box. All member bills are to be paid to the accounting office by the 15 th of the month. All accounts not paid will be charged a late fee of $20.00 on the 16 th of the month. The late fee will be assessed as in accordance with the Club s bylaws (Article IV, Section 5). Thank you for your cooperation.
