2 President s Message The month of July is here along with the typical Arkansas heat! Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated while you are out playing golf and tennis. Please be mindful and patient while Jason and his crew syringe the greens to keep them cool. We are so happy to welcome our new members to MCC! We added 19 new members during the month of June. This is bringing us closer to our goal of 400 golf members. The Membership Committee is continuing their membership drive so please continue to bring out friends and encourage them to join our wonderful Club. You will see and enjoy more improvements as we get our membership back to a desired level. A special thank you to our staff and all of the volunteers that helped make the Make*A*Wish Celebrity Golf Tournament another success. Everyone had a wonderful time meeting the stars and playing golf while helping to support such a meaningful charity. The happy children and their smiling faces is what makes it so special. The media coverage for this event is always good for our Club. The Board has received a lot of positive feedback from guests and players in outside events. We have received nothing but praise for the course and how well the greens play. The calendar is not as full now that we are out of the extremely busy months of May and June. Continue to check your calendars as you bring your friends out and enjoy 324 a round of golf or participate in our ever popular Club events. Be sure you sign up with Monica for events that require a reservation. MCC and summertime is in full swing! Come out and enjoy everything we have to offer. 3 Manager s Message Summer is officially here and the schedule is loaded with great events for the entire family! Make plans to spend the 4 th of July weekend at the Club. Activities will be held on Wednesday, July 4 th, with the City of Maumelle fireworks display bringing an end to a fun filled day. Call for reservations as we look forward to making your 4 th a special one! The City of Maumelle has issued an Ordinance regarding the discharge of fireworks. Any violator of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and could face up to a $100 fine plus court costs. Please educate your family and neighbors on this ordinance and refrain from discharging fireworks on the golf course. There will be no warnings issued for violations. Thank you for your compliance and have a Safe and Happy Fourth of July. June was a very productive month with several large outside events and clubhouse functions that produced much needed revenue. As the hot temperatures of July & August approach, we will be limiting the outside events to save wear and tear on the bent grass. With the absence of this revenue, we need all golfing members to bring your guests to the Club in order to keep the revenue stream flowing in the right direction. Our membership drive is still producing positive results and MCC continues to receive positive comments so let s keep the momentum and work hard on recruiting new members and making all members feel welcome at the Club! Congratulations to MCC Employee of the Month for June Bill Bush. Bill is the Men s Locker Room Attendant and has provided great service to our members for many years. Thanks for all of your hard work, Bill! 6 Golf Course Update Well no doubt about it summer is here!! Bermuda loves it but the bent grass hates it! There are several things we have and will be doing to reduce the stress on the greens. For one, we will aerify this month using a solid star tine. This allows the roots to breath and helps us regulate the moisture levels. Another thing we have done is switch the front roller on our greens mowers. The rest of the year we use a grooved roller which helps us achieve a tighter cut. The solid roller lays the grass down before cutting; this creates a fatter leaf blade and causes less stress to the plant. Also, as the summer progresses we probably will raise the height of cut on the mower. Allowing the plant to grow taller reduces the amount of stress and has a direct impact 1830 on the root length. Raising the height of cut and changing the roller affects how the ball rolls. We try to moderate everything in order to give you the best possible playing surface without being too detrimental to the turf. As always, please be patient with our crew as they Wilt Watch on the greens. Give them a minute before hitting onto the greens; they are doing all they can to provide you with a great putting surface! Have a great round! Jason Baker, GCS Thank-you! Tom Pangburn and John Jennings have sponsored two new members this year! Keep up the great work- Vegas is calling you! Free Steak Dinners Somewhere hidden in the newsletter are four Member s club numbers. Find your member number and win one free steak dinner. Congratulations! Jim Jowers on your Hole-In-One on #13! *****Weekly Reminders***** Every Wednesday Night is Family Night at Maumelle Country Club Kids 11 and under EAT FREE off the kids menu with purchase of Adult Entrée.
