Flag Tournament Players will be given a small flag with their names attached. Using full handicap, players will play until they reach the number of strokes equaling par, plus their handicap. The player who plants the flag farthest around the course will be the winner. Payout will be determined by the number of entries. Men s & Women s divisions. All players must tee off before 2:00 p.m. $10.00 / Participant Sign up in the Pro Shop that day!

2 President s Message: Dear Members, The Four Ball and Memorial Day party were a lot of fun, Cimarron, Terry and all of their staff did an excellent job. Our new format of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, leaving Memorial Day open worked out very well. The course was heavily utilized on Monday, so I would deem this new schedule a success to be repeated in the future. Thank you tournament committee for making this change. The John Daly Make-a-Wish Celebrity Golf Classic was a wonderful event. John was so impressed by our membership s support and hospitality that he announced that they would bring the event back next year! I would like to thank all the volunteers that helped make this event as special as it was, and as usual the staff did an excellent job. Our membership drive continues, but we need more members. We are currently evaluating some new membership programs that we will be announcing in the next few weeks. Our goal will be to increase our cash flow and to reward the members that help us accomplish this goal. More information will be coming on this subject. The best way you can help is by recruiting new members and bringing out guests. If each member brings out 2 guests per month 193 we would double our green fee revenue, if this is done for the next 4-5 months then we would be much more comfortable on the revenue side. Summer is here, the course, clubhouse and pool are looking great so bring out your guests to enjoy, I m proud of the work that Cimarron and Terry are doing and proud to show it off, so please join me! 3 Manager s Message: Summer is officially here and the schedule is loaded with great events for the family. Make plans now to spend the 4 th of July weekend at the Club. Activities will be held on Saturday, June 3 rd with the City of Maumelle fireworks display bringing an end to a fun filled day. Call Kellie with your reservations and we look forward to making your 4th a special one! June was a very productive month with several large outside events and clubhouse functions that produced much needed revenue. As the hot temperatures arrive, we have limited the outside events to keep the additional wear & tear off the greens. With the absence of this revenue, we need all golfing members to bring your guests to the Club during these hot months in order to keep the revenue stream flowing in the right direction. Our membership drive is still producing positive results and Maumelle Country Club continues to receive many positive comments let s keep the momentum and work hard on recruiting new members! I want to send a special thanks to all of the Maumelle CC members who donated their time during the John Daly Make-A- Wish Celebrity Classic. This 1541 was a great event and very fun for all involved. John and everyone who participated made it known that this was the best event in the 11 year history of the tournament. We look forward to hosting the tournament next year! On the Course with Terry Well, summer s here and all that comes with it. I hope you guys haven t floated away with all of the rain that we have had. I m sure the rain will go away and bring that muggy Arkansas heat soon enough. Around this time last year, many of you asked questions about the how and why of what my staff and I did from day to day to manage the greens in the heat and humidity. I d like to take this opportunity to tell you. The three employees that water greens (syringe), my assistant, and myself work every day from 6:30 to 5:00. If we need to stay later, we do. The syringers are never allowed to be on the greens watering without supervision. It is very important to not over water areas that don t need water. It is also important to make sure that all areas in need of water 2210 receive it in a timely fashion so they don t die. Also, my assistant and I walk on and observe every green every day to scout for disease. That is basically the way it s done until September. This summer my staff and I will be moving some fans to different areas behind some of the greens on the back nine. When growing bent grass on greens, air movement is necessary and the lack of can be a problem. The fans help create airflow when none exists. By adding and moving fans we will be able to help more areas that tend to struggle. Be sure to drink plenty of water and enjoy the summer! Terry Spurlock

4 From the Pro Shop Congratulations to Maumelle Classic champion, Allan Thomas, who won the ASGA Stroke Play championship held at Big Creek GC in Mountain Home, AR. Way to go, Allan! The Buick Scramble was a great success. Thanks to all who participated. We had 9 teams competing for (1) spot to advance to the Sectional qualifier. The team of Bill Dennis, Alice Dennis, Chris Albright & Gib Carpenter won a sudden death playoff on the 2 nd hole over the team of John Rand, Jimmy Romine, Jack Leggett & Fred Ellis. Congratulations & good luck to this team as they try to advance to the National championship. We will be coordinating a bus trip with this tournament to Shangri-La. Those who went last year can attest to how much fun the trip was!!! Stop by the Pro Shop or call Cimarron if you are interested in going. The Personal Tee Junior program is underway. Our first camp was well attended, even with a few rain showers. There are two camps left and you may sign up in the Pro Shop. Make sure that you sign up for the MGA & MWGA events this month. The annual Flag Day tournament will be held on Saturday, July 3 rd. See the 2357 front page for all of the details. A special thanks to all MCC members who sponsored a hole for the Arkansas Chapter PGA Pro-Am held on June 21 st. All participants said that this was one of the best Pro- Am s they have ever played in. Your support is greatly appreciated. 5 MGA News On July 31 st the MGA will play a two man Scramble. Don t worry about who your assigned partner is, this event will be flighted after play. We know this has been said in the past, and it deserves repeated again. We all thank the Greens Committee, Terry and his staff for doing an excellent job with the Golf Course. Has anyone ever seen the green s look and play nicer? When you see his staff, tell them thanks or simply wave to let them know how much we all appreciate their help. Again, if you are not an MGA Member, sign up and come out for golf, fellowship and a good time. See you on the Golf Course. And don t forget to fix ball marks. All Hutchinson shot his age of 81 On Saturday, June 12, 2004! MWGA News It s hard to believe it s mid-summer. The last few weeks we have appreciated our 8:00 tee time for Wednesday play days. We are excited to see several new faces playing with us. Thanks to Candace and Wilma for putting on an outstanding Mixed Invitational once again, and to Wanda for a successful Willie Odom Classic. Neither of the tournaments would be possible without dedicated chairmen. I hope everyone enjoyed the John Daly Make-a- Wish tournament. I understand the it will be held again next year at Maumelle, in large part due to the friendliness and helpfulness of our membership and staff. Reminder to everyone: The next Mixed Event will be Sunday, July 18. We MUST be signed up be Wednesday, July 14 th to have a shotgun start at 1:00; otherwise, we will be on tee times. We also must have at least 18 couples to shotgun, so talk up the Mixed Event and SIGN UP EARLY! On a personal note, thanks to each of you for your concern during the loss of my dad. The late fee will be assessed as in accordance with the Club s bylaws (Article IV, Section 5).
