2 FEBRUARY 13 Newsletter Page 2 P R E S I D E N T S M E S S A G E Dear Fellow Members: I want to thank everyone for your utilization of our club in January. Considering that we were closed 1 week for cleaning, weather conditions and just recovering from the holidays, we had an active month. Bill and the entertainment committee have been working on our February events such as the Valentine s Day Party. Please check your calendars and if all possible please take advantage of these events. The BOD has completed the budget and we are still working on getting it posted on our website. We hope to have some web issues ironed out. I apologize for the delay. Happy Hour Tues. Fri 5-7pm 10% Off Drinks Even though we have a budget in place, the BOD and staff are continuing to explore all areas to control and reduce cost without compromising membership service expectations. We are very optimistic that our 2013 goals will be met and we will be able to insure consistency of our club going forward and reduce or eliminate certain financial dependencies. Our trial membership program is proceeding very well. As of January 22 nd we have 34 new members. Teresa Harrod has done an excellent job of promoting and marketing our club. As the opportunity presents, please take a minute to welcome our new members. Our BOD meetings are normally scheduled for the 3 rd Tuesday of every month. The BOD is happy to listen to your concerns or questions. If you can t make the meeting but want to address the BOD, you can send an to Lisa or me. My is stevenhillis@sbcglobal.net. Tues. Steve Hillis President - MCC F RO M YO U R C L U B H O U S E M A N A G E R I seriously think I must have slept through a couple of weeks in January. I cannot believe it is already FEBRUARY! We WERE running on a short month though; with the club closed for a week for cleaning and a few days of winter weather taking us down, last month just flew by. February is also a short month in the number of days, but we are going to try and squeeze as much in as possible. We have a Meet and Greet Wine and Cheese, Valentine s Day Dinner, Senior Party, Super Bowl Party and I think we will squeeze in some Bingo for the Ladies again. Oh, the ladies love their Bingo. Also, let s not forget that Fat Tuesday is on February 12 th this year. We will come up with a great Buffet for everyone to come get their fill before giving up all of the good stuff for a while. Tony and I will try and get creative with more2918 Special Selections this month that we haven t tried in the past. The monthly Sunday Brunch will be on February 17th. We had a good turnout in January and all those that came in said the food was exceptional. If we can get more participation, maybe we can increase the frequency. I always say why buy new grips when you can just buy new clubs they come with new grips. Well you may really like your clubs and not want to change. So start the year out right and make sure your grips are in great shape. We have a wide selection of grips to choose from (and can special order grips as well). During the month of February we are offering free installation (Regular $2 per club) if you purchase the grips from the golf shop. Upcoming Golf Events Sunday, February 3 rd Super Bowl Scramble Saturday, February 16 th MGA Event Also, during the month of February we are offering free installation of spikes purchased through the golf shop. Sign Up Now! The first MGA of the year will be Saturday, February 16 th. Sign up now in the golf shop. Cary T U R F TA L K We have not had much of a winter this year and have not had to cover greens yet. Hopefully, February will bring a cold snap that will last a couple of days and freeze the top layer of soil. This will greatly benefit the insect population this spring! I would like to remind everyone to please rake your footprints anytime you enter a bunker. Sometimes people forget to rake after retrieving an errant ball while playing a scramble. Don t forget your footprints may affect the team behind you. Also, if out walking your dog, please keep them out of the bunkers. If they happen to run through one, please take the time to rake it. During the winter, one of our biggest challenges is weed control. We are spraying and will continue to spray herbicide to combat these weeds. Annual Blue Grass, commonly known as Poa, is our number one problem. We treat this weed with a non selective herbicide mixed with a small amount of preemerge to help prevent new weeds from sprouting. This time of year all plants grow slowly, so it takes longer for the herbicide to take effect. Thank you and have a great round. Jason Baker Golf Course Superintendent

5 FEBRUARY 13 Newsletter Page 5 M G A N E W S M WG A N E W S February is here and it is time to start the 2013 MGA Season. Our first event for 2013 will be held on February 16th. If you have not signed up for 2013 MGA Membership, you can stop by the Pro Shop or call the Club Office. Your membership immediately pays off; you get $10.00 in Pro Shop credit and Hole In One Insurance. The Insurance pays you if you have a Hole In One. Again, if you are not an MGA Member, sign up and come out for golf, fellowship and a good time. David Parks MGA President Happy Valentine s Day to all the ladies at MCC! The Super Bowl Scramble will be Feb. 3 rd and it will be a 3 person scramble. The cost is $150 per team so get your team together and join in the fun. Mark your calendar for March 6 th, which will be our first play day at 9:00 am, with the March meeting to follow. In the event of bad weather, the meeting will be held at 11:00 am. We will have a Board Meeting this month and I will be contacting all Officers and Committee members of the date and time later. Get those golf clubs cleaned and re-gripped ladies.because our golf season is just around the corner. Peggy Rhodes, MWGA, President Reminder! President s Day will be observed on Monday, February 18th. The Men s Locker Room ONLY & Golf Course will be open for member play. Please note that parking in the circle in front of the Clubhouse is restricted to golf carts and Members with handicap parking permits. If you are watching friends, searching for balls, gathering pecans, or just driving the course, your cart must stay on the paved cart path and CARTS ARE NEVER TO BE DRIVEN OFF THE CART PATH WITHIN 30

6 FEBRUARY 13 Newsletter Page 7 During the winter months carts must remain on the CART PATH at all times. Please remember that driving in the rough does just as much damage as driving in the fairway. Also remember that the CART PATH ONLY rule includes people who are not playing. If you are watching friends, searching for balls, gathering pecans, or just driving the course, your cart must stay on the paved cart path and CARTS ARE NEVER TO BE DRIVEN OFF THE CART PATH WITHIN 30 YARDS OF A GREEN OR TEE BOX! One more reminder, if you use a pull cart please be alert for wet areas. Pull carts can do as much damage as normal carts when conditions are wet. Pull carts are NEVER to be pulled onto the green, collar, through bunkers or other hazards. Thank you for your attention and cooperation. M A R K YO U R 2013 CA L E NDARS! All member bills are to be paid to the accounting office by the 15 th of the month. All accounts not paid will be charged a late fee of $20.00 on the 16 th of the month. The late fee will be assessed as in accordance with the Club s bylaws (Article IV, Section 5). Free Steak Dinner Somewhere hidden in the newsletter are four Member s club numbers.
