1 Mountain Niners Golf Club The Tee Times May 2016 May Day, May Play!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS: May 12 Budget Meeting, 2:00 Home of Elyse Gut A Message from our President, Blaine Foltz Welcome to our 2016 Mountain Niner golf season! The dormant days of winter are drawing to a close, the snow is receding into history, and spring is getting ready to dazzle us with her abundant pallet of color. This is truly my favorite time of the year because it is getting warm and lush, AND it is almost time to play some mountain golf with old and new friends! While many of us have been tending to our winter lives, our 9er Board and Robyn Bradford, our Mountain Course Pro, have been working diligently behind the scenes to make sure that our short and fast-paced 2016 golf season plays out like a scratch game of golf seamlessly and flawlessly. Our season is always action-packed with fun things to enjoy. So, please be sure to keep that 9er Calendar handy so that you don t miss anything (attached). As you will read in this Newsletter, we have several changes/additions coming this season. First is the introduction of Thursday morning tee times (Monday tee times will stay as they were last year). Also of note, we now have an official member-approved Tournament Director, Paula Garavaglia, who has been working to create some fun and educational opportunities for us 9er folks to enjoy. Lastly, we have calendared a Mixie play day since it is such a great way for us to meet with fellow 9ers who we may not have met before. More to come on all of the above, so stay tuned That s enough from me for now. Please enjoy the rest of this Newsletter composed for you by our 9er contributors and your dedicated Newsletter Editor, Nancy Manter. 2 The Opening Luncheon, June 8th The Opening Scramble, June 9th The Opening Luncheon for the Mountain Niners will be held on Wednesday, June 8 th, at Gar Woods Grill and Pier in Carnelian Bay, upstairs in the Riva Room, from 11:30-2:00. This event is included in your club dues, and a lot of club information will be shared at this gathering. House wines and Wet Woodys will cost $8.00 (tax included, not tip), so be sure to BRING CASH. This will be a great way to kick off our season, catch up with friends, and welcome our new members. Be sure to introduce yourselves to them. We will meet at the Driving Range parking lot at 11:00 for those who wish to carpool. Hello Niners! It s time to get out on the course, to get into the swing of things, and to work out the kinks in a non-threatening and fun event with no pressure, no contests, and no prizes. Your score won t matter! We will be playing a four-person scramble format. Everyone will tee off, and the best ball is played until the ball is "holed" out. So, sign up with your Buddy and golf friends on Golf Fusion starting May 1 st, with tee time available between 10:00 to 11:10. This event is bound to be memorable, so don't miss it. See you then. The signup is on Golf Fusion as of May 1st, and a menu selection must to be made with your signup. After signing onto Golf Fusion, go to Event Registration, click on Opening Luncheon, June 8th. Information on the luncheon will come onto the screen. Read the details, and make your salad selection by typing it in the box marked Notes to Event Director. LASTLY, click SIGN ME UP. You will receive a confirmation from Golf Fusion. If you have any difficulty getting into Golf Fusion, contact Mary Hubbard at or mahubb@pacbell.net. SEE YOU THERE! Niners Opening Day at the Mountain Course, Monday, June 2 nd The Mountain Course will initiate our reserved Niner tee times on Thursday, June 2 nd. Tee time signups for that day will be available through Golf Fusion starting on May 1 st. Once again Robyn has generously provided our club with a block of tee times on both Mondays and Thursdays. This means that only Niners will be allowed to sign up for tee times during those time periods. Membership Mary Hubbard, Membership Chair Welcome to our 2016 golf season to all of our returning members and to our new members! Our membership is currently over 60, with 7 new members or returning members from past seasons. Please contact Mary if you would like an application sent to you or if you have any questions at or mahubb@pacbell.net. 2

The recipient will be selected shortly. Her qualifications will include having been a member of the IHS golf team and going on to an accredited 2-year or 4-year college. 4 Golf Fusion is used by the Mountain Niners to sign up for all events, tee times and tournaments. For those new members who have not yet gone into Golf Fusion, most of your information has already been entered for you using a temporary Username and Password. Contact Mary Hubbard at or mahubb@pacbell.net for this information. You will then be able to access the website and enter your own Username and Password in your personal information. Also, if you would like certain information kept private, you may check the privacy boxes on the far right of the screen. For those of you already familiar with our Golf Fusion website, it s been a long time since last season. If you need assistance accessing the website, contact Mary via information above. Handicaps Judy Cabito, Chair The Mountain Niner Golf Club uses the GHIN (Golf Handicap/Index Network) system to create a Handicap/Index for each member, which is our method to even out the playing field. Each player has been or will be assigned a GHIN number and should receive an Index update from revisionupdate@ghin.com every two weeks. If you do not receive an index update, first check your SPAM folder and then contact me at JMCabito@aol.com. I ll try to rectify the situation. New golfers or a golfer not yet into the system will need to play a minimum of ten 9-hole rounds (or five 18-hole rounds, or any combination thereof) in order for GHIN and/or the Club to calculate a golfer s index. The members of the Handicap committee (Judy Cabito, Mary Hubbard and Karen Gabriel) welcome you to the 2016 Season and look forward to greeting you at the Opening Luncheon and Scramble. Upcoming Community Events The 18th Annual Fur Ball is being held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, Grand Ballroom.
