1 Oxfordshire Family History Society Oxfordshire Parish Register Coverage on CD Almost all parish and many nonconformist registers in traditional Oxfordshire and North Berkshire have been transcribed from the earliest existing entries to recent times. Transcription started over 30 years ago. These early transcripts were typewritten and indexed using paper slips. In 1994, these early transcripts (many were poor photocopies) were filmed and sold on microfiche. Later, as computer technology came into use, computers were used for new input. A programme was then started to transfer these older transcripts to CD. The most readable ones were scanned, but a lot had to be re-keyed, rechecked and re-indexed. The CDs are grouped into Registration District areas so adjacent parishes could be found on the same CD. Each CD also includes copies of the booklet Oxfordshire Parish Registers and Bishops Transcripts. This booklet gives full details of what registers exist and where they and transcripts can be found. All new members receive a copy of this useful booklet. These CDs are sold through the OFHS web site or in person at the Oxfordshire History Centre, Oxford Central Library and various family history fairs. The following pages list, for each parish (some are technically not parishes), three sets of dates births or christenings, marriages, deaths or burials. Long dashes indicate that no data exists, spaces indicate that the material exists but is not yet available on OFHS CDs. The second column ROref indicates the reference at either Berks or Oxon RO PAR # refers to Oxfordshire History Centre s electronic catalogue BOD # indicates records at OHC not yet in the electronic catalogue nrd # indicates no records have yet been deposited at OHC D/P # indicates a Berkshire RO reference The third column shows our CD code for the disc on which the material is published. The information in this booklet was correct in March Please check the Society s website for changes in the range of available publications during the year. The Society s website can be found at:
