Just because yu are ging t an English-speaking cuntry des NOT mean yu wn t experience culture shck. There are many cultural differences between yur hme cuntry and the UK. Expect t be challenged. 6 Ways t Manage Culture Shck Revisit yur gals fr the prgram when yu are having truble appreciating yur time abrad. Remember that this experience is what yu make f it. Utilize yur sense f humr. Be pen-minded: it s nt wrng, it s different! Have tlerance fr ambiguity. Talk t yur Site Directrs and FIE staff if yu feel that yu are really having difficulties adjusting. We are here t help!!

7 What t Pack DO NOT OVERPACK. Strage space is limited Yu will have t get yur luggage t and frm yur residence! Yu can buy all necessary items in the UK dn t panic! Yu shuld bring: an umbrella and hded rain jacket. all necessary prescriptins and medicatins fr the duratin f yur prgram, in their riginal labeled bttles. Bath twel Small appliances: hair dryers, straighteners, etc. Check the vltage f yur appliance. British vltages are typically 240V. It may be easier fr yu t buy a cheap hairdryer r electric shaver whilst yu are here.

8 Mney and Finances The cst f living in Lndn is significantly high especially in Suth Kensingtn Fr current exchange rates, visit 1GBP = 1.33USD Budget between 90 and 120 per week fr fd and persnal expenses. Yu can visit an ATM in Suth Kensingtn nce yu arrive. Banking: Use yur regular debit card while abrad. 11 Ging Thrugh Immigratin When yu land in Lndn, yu will g thrugh UK Immigratin, where yu will present yur passprt and student letter. An fficial will ask yu questins such as the purpse f yur visit, hw lng yu will be in the UK, and where yu will be staying. It is in yur best interest t treat the custms fficials with respect, as they apprve yur entry int the cuntry!

After that, yu will g t Fundatin Huse with yur passprt fr Registratin Residence Life Orientatins will take place the evening f arrival t help yu settle in FIE Orientatin will take place the fllwing day an pprtunity t answer any questins yu have, intrduce yu t the lcal area and help yu understand Lndn public transprtatin. Other rientatin activities include a Lndn bus tur, theater trip, and FIE welcme BBQ!

14 Academics Classes will use the extensive and excellent resurces f Lndn as part f yur curse. Field trips! This is a study prgram (study abrad), nt a travel prgram. Academics take precedence ver ther activities. Please d nt bk any travel until yur timetable is cnfirmed n arrival in Lndn!!
