1 Karachi Club Publication May 2014 From the desk of Chief Editor Dear Members, Warmth of the summer is good, but Karachiites loath the sultry, muggy weather which is exhausting and fatiguing especially when you are out on the roads for day to day errands. We see the members smile when they quench their thirst by enjoying fresh juices, drinks and other summer delicacies such as shakes and lemonades at the club. Our club is bustling with member's children who enjoy and take pleasure in swimming activities. Mothers spend their social time in chatting with their acquaintances, of which the most current discussion that tends to take place is the upcoming annual examination of their children. Activity and rest are the two significant aspects of life and our club looks forward to organizing interesting programs like food festivals, movies and musical events, sports activities, and much more. I would like to conclude with the Thought of the Month Life is sweet and short, live it. Forgive and forget. Love truly and embrace. Laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile! 3 Club Events Karachi Club Publication Grand Bumper Quiz Rama - Quiz Rama First Grand Bumper Quiz Rama of 2014 was organized on 5th April at main club. It was a very well attended function and members were enthusiastic and did not want to miss a single game. Most of the members came early and had their meals at the club, where special menu were set for easy and fast food items. Protect Children In Changing Weather - Health & Fitness A successful seminar was organized on 19th April by Ghulam Abbas Soomro, Convenor Health & Fitness Committee at Lawn of Karachi Club Main. Guest speaker was Professor Dr. Abdul Gaffar Billoo (SI), a renowned leading consultant Pediatrician. He delivered lecture on the topic of "Protect Children in Changing May 2014 With the cool spring breeze the program started well on time, and as the game progressed the members who were showered with prizes, were eager to play the next game. The main sponsors of the event were Advance Telecom and Suzuki South. The Snowball prize was awarded for full house in Card seven. Members enjoyed the event till last and Convenor Ayaz Siddiq and his Committee were commended for the excellent arrangements. Weather. His key note address with help of multimedia presentation was followed by series of questions raised by our members and speaker answered them in detail. Arshad Rahim Khan of Baby First, sponsors of the Seminar, also spoke on the occasion. Present during the Seminar were President, Ayub Bawany, Honorary Secretary, Mohammed Jawed Zakaria and other Managing Committee members. Program concluded with Dr. Billoo being presented a memento by the President. 4 May 2014 Karachi Club Publication 14th Junior National Championship - Swimming Pool The 14th National Women Junior age group Championship recently concluded in Lahore. Even though KC as a team does not participate in the Championship, yet many of our girls were part of Sindh, Navy and other teams and they performed well against other formidable swimmers from across the country. Following were the medal winners with their tally of medals; Under 10 category - Iman Basrai, 3 Gold Club Events and 2 Silver; Marsha Shahid Dhedhi, 3 Bronze and 2 Silver; Heer Loungani, 3 Bronze and 2 Silver, whereas Eman Sajid 1 Bronze and 2 Silver medals. In Under 12 category, Ramsha,3 Silver and Simra Nasir, 4 Gold and 2 Silver medals. In Under 14 category, Aysha Shoaib, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze; Umme Hani, 1 Silver; Emman Imran, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze and Aqsa Motiwala, 1 Silver. In the category of Under 16, Ayesha Ameen and Sakina Aqeel earned 3 Bronze medals each. Our Club Swimming Pools provide the facilities to our children to train and get ready for such events. Well done girls. KC Open Snooker Challenge 2014 Billiard & Snooker The 18th edition of KC Open Snooker Challenge 2014 was organized at the Grand Snooker Room of the Club from 14th April. This being the prime tournament in the Snooker Calendar of the club attracted lot of enthusiasm. Upcoming club members along with amateurs had an opportunity to witness the games of Pakistan Ranking players. As many as 64 club members participated in the first phase of the tournament. In the Semi Finals, Asad Kamani beat Umer Saleem, and Baqar Kamani beat Murtaza Iqbal to qualify for the finals where Asad Kamani beat Baqar Kamani by 4/2. Hussain Ferozpurwala made the highest break of 60 points. In phase II of the challenge, many national ranking players joined the club stars. The final was played between Sajjad Rana and Sohail Shahzad, who had earlier defeated Mohammad Ishtiaq and Sharjeel Mehmood in the semi finals. Sajjad Rana was the winner of the tournament beating Sohail Shahzad by 7/5. Mohammad Majid made the memorable highest break of 140 points. Speaking on the occasion of the prize distribution ceremony, A. Abdullah Zaki, President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, appreciated the efforts of Saifuddin Madraswala, Convenor Billiard and Snooker for organizing such a successful event. Those present in the finals included President, Ayub Bawany; Honorary Secretary, Mohammed Jawed Zakaria and many members of Managing Committee, beside large number of members of the club. 5 Club Events Arabian Night Food Fesitval - Kitchen Atmosphere in the lawns of our Main Club was relaxing with aroma of Arabic Food had many members enjoying sumptuous delicacies well before meal time. This was the scene on Sunday 20th April when Kitchen Convenor, Ayaz Siddiq and his team under close supervision of our worthy President, Ayub Bawany organized this unique event. Cuisine was provided by Lebanese Restaurant, Kababjee located in Movenpick (Former Sheraton Hotel). High quality Arabic food was Karachi Club Publication May 2014 cooked live with professional presentation and quick serving made the event more enjoyable. The menu was tempting and members enjoyed each item, as these are not on the regular menu of most of the eateries in town. Many of the varieties were served with Pita bread, whereas some were served with Rice. Muttabal, Labne, Hommus, Flaafel alongwith Shawarmas were early sold outs. Main dishes were Shish Kabab, Shish Taouk, Lamb and Chicken Kafta, and Fish Harara were liked by all the members. Live music with some new singers added to the attraction of the evening. KC - KG Badminton Competition Badminton Karachi Club hosted, KC - KG Badminton Tournament on 22nd April, organized by Convenor Irfan Ayub and his Badminton Committee. Even though this was a friendly tie but it turned out to be a highly competitive event. Total of seven matches were played between the two teams in different categories. In 50+ doubles Rawnaq Ali and Fahim of KC were winners with 21-12, in 40+ doubles category Dawood and Mubashir again from KC were declared winners with score of 21-10, In 40+ singles category Qamar won by Mens doubles was won by KC pair Afzal and Fahid Fahim with scores. While in under 19 our young star Ahmed Faisal won the match with Karachi Club with sterling performances won the competition with a margin of 6:1 matches. 6 May 2014 Karachi Club Publication KC Day & Night Tape Ball Cricket Tournament Cricket The cricket fever in the city has not faded out after Pakistan's exit from T20 World Cup and it was evident from the participants enthusiasm in the Wall Street & Money Gram KC Day & Night Tape Ball Cricket Tournament 2014 organized at the Main Club on 26th April by the Cricket Committee headed by Yasin Ozri. The game was restricted for age group of 24 year and above. As many as nine matches were Club Events played in the day long tournament which continued into early hours of next day. The prize distribution ceremony was held at the conclusion of the final which was played between KC Green and KC Black. KC Green won the toss and elected to field first. KC Black won the match by scoring 117 /5 whereas KC Green while chasing the target could only manage 106/6. Adeel Abbasi was declared man of the match, scoring 50 runs not out and bagged 2 wickets for 32 runs. Faisal Butt was declared man of the tournament for scoring 92 runs in his game. Bahar-e-Ghazal - Entertainment Its been entertainment parade - month after month. First it was Winter Fun Extravaganza, then it was Amjad Fareed's Qawali, followed by Pakistan Day Celeberation and now it was Bahar-e-Ghazal with Zafar Ramay and Naila Salim. Hats off to Munir Colombo, Convenor Entertainment and his committee for keeping the members entertained with programs and films on regular basis. It was on 19th April, when Bahar-e-Ghazal was organized on the lawns of Annex. Both artists had to deviate from their list of songs, as they were inundated with requests to sing popular numbers from the audience. Members were enthralled and even some senior members danced to dhamal tunes. Wedding Bells Ayesha Tajwar (D-1592) daughter of Tajwar Hussain (P-4575) weds Ahsan Mateen on 18th April Achievement Muhammad Hassan Shekhani who is just 4 years old, secured 1st position at the 5th Young Taekwondo Championship 2014 in the game of Sparring and Wood Breaking. He was under the coaching of Farhan Hafeez at the Karachi Club. Young Hassan was the youngest of all the competitors in the championship. 7 Club Events Karachi Club Publication May 2014 Essa Lab Open Tennis Championship - Tennis The tennis players of Karachi club had a life time opportunity to witness National Ranking Players in action at the courts of club. The event was 2nd Essa Lab Open Tennis Championship. Rafiq Godil, a regular tennis player and senior member of the club, inaugurated the event and announced a special cash prize other than sponsors. The efforts of Tennis Convener, Abdullah Khatri and his committee were greatly applauded for organizing such a successful and important event with the support of Sind Tennis Association. Closing ceremony witness the presence of Dr. Farhan Essa as Chief Guest along with Yousuf Suleman, Former Honorary Secrtary of the club, as Guest of Honor, besides Khwaja Saeed Hai, Former Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tennis Federation. The event was widely covered by the media. Mens Singles title was won by Imran Shouqat of Multan. Hence, we request our members to apply for new RFID membership cards and surrender the old membership cards. To do so, please visit the Facilitation Center along with 2 recent passport size photographs (White or Blue Background), Copy of CNIC of self, wife and children over 18 years of age and for children under 18 please submit the copy of Birth certificate and B-Form on the following Days and Timings. Members who have already made their new RFID Membership cards please ignore this notice. 10 Karachi Club - New format of Bills We are pleased to announce that the new ERP program - Club Management System (CMS) that has been acquired at the end of 2012 is at the final stage of its customization with many hurdles being overcome in its implementation. Most of the modules have been changed to suit our requirements while some modules are still being worked on. Critical hardware systems are in place, new RFID membership cards are being issued at an accelerated pace, while member data center is now entirely working on the new system parallel to old one. Next to get converted will be our Point of Sales or KOT system in which members recognition can be made through RFID cards. These actions will bring in greater efficiencies and more controls for the Managements of future. Bills for the month of March that members already received were generated on CMS. Like all new computer systems, we had few bugs and pitfalls too. We are still testing our software for errors and hopefully many of the shortcomings of last bill would be removed when we generate bills for Month of April. We appreciate the members feedback and would like to know if any bills received are still inaccurate, so we can take corrective measures and improve our software wherever required. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused but assure you that this is temporary and once the system is in place, members would feel the difference when we will be able to serve them with correct and timely bills with added features. Mohammed Jawed Zakaria - Honorary Secretary and Information Technology Convenor Karachi Club - Cash KOT In recent past management of the club has observed gross inaccuracies in Cash KOT (Kitchen Order Slips) management both at Main and Annex. These inaccuracies have arisen not only just by error but some of them are due to malafide intention of some of the staff involved. Management is taking strict action in this regard and is also strengthening systems whereby such activities are impossible to replicate. In this connection we seek cooperation of the members using Kitchen Food supplies against Cash payment. Kindly note following important points and we request observance by all members. 4 Provide your name and membership number to the order taker even for cash paid KOT, since this is required for member verification purposes within club. 4 Insist to waiter to provide you a copy of computerized KOT slip and ensure that your name appears correctly, order has been accurately fed, check the amount and must provide your signature on it. 4 Once amount of your bill has been ascertained it is desirable to self obtain the cash receipt from the reception. However in case you give cash to the waiter ask him to show you the computerised cash receipt and provide a members copy of KOT slip for your record before you leave. 4 Staff has already been insturcted to strictly follow the system as outlined above.
