President s Report 2012 and 2013 has been a period of concern for Motorcycling Queensland with the downturn in competition licences issued and the decreasing numbers of competitors entering some events. Generally, everyone in our sport and connected to our sport has been doing it a bit tough as you are all probably well aware. Consequently, Motorcycling Queensland has embarked on some sustainable projects which have so far paid dividends. Unlike some other sporting codes within Queensland, we continue to be financially secure thus allowing us to re-invest back into our sport. Motorcycling Queensland and its board have been working hard and have had to make some important and sometimes difficult decisions to achieve this. I am confident that we can now assure you that your Motorcycling Queensland is in very good shape and its future is looking good. The audited report and accounts are further proof that as an organization, we are going forward whilst similar organizations are stalling and even going backwards. Yours in Sport Derek Rumble General Manager s Report Motorcycling Queensland s performance in 2012 was sound, with a remarkably good contribution from the first year of operations at Queensland Moto Park. Our general administrative services for motorcycle sport were slightly down however our overall financial performance was satisfactory. Administration MQ continues to operate from our freehold offices in Gordon Street, Ipswich and both our tenants in this building have continued their leases. Again, MQ s licence numbers decreased slightly from last year s total and our overall licence numbers at the end of 2012 were around 6300, a loss of about 500 riders or 7% over the year. This decrease was generally consistent across every state in Australia, although Queensland s decline was the nation s highest. With our licence numbers declining through the year, individual event numbers were also facing some difficulties. Many of our major series events were affected by bad weather throughout the year and this affected our entry numbers. Although eight rounds of the Sunshine State Motocross Series were Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 5

scheduled, only seven went ahead and rider numbers were slightly down. The ThunderX Natural Terrain Motocross Series was cut back to a single round due to low rider numbers, which was mostly attributed to rising entry costs. The SEQ Junior Motocross Series ran over four rounds and the Junior Subcommittee members were pleased with the number of riders who participated over the series. Regional events suffered some difficulties through the year but were generally successful. There were minor changes in Motorcycling Queensland s staff members and positions in 2012, with the staff members being: - Lindsay Granger General Manager - Kim Rowcliffe Operations Manager - Michael Brown Events Officer - Kylie Priday Finance Officer/ PA (on maternity leave from June 2012) - Courtney Wingfield Licensing Officer (Finance Officer from June 2012) - Rachelle Houterman Administration Officer - Daniel Rowe Licensing Officer (from June 2012) The membership of the MQ Board has continued unchanged since the 2011 AGM under the Presidency of Derek Rumble, although the position title of Junior Vice President was abolished under the new Constitution. The new Constitution was adopted following a postal ballot at the 2012 AGM. Our subcommittees continued their valuable work throughout the year. The face-to-face meeting of all subcommittees continued in 2012 and is now a regular opportunity for subcommittee members to meet in person each year.the 2012 Zone meetings were held in Mackay and Townsville in November and December, with the Townsville meeting held as the first regional Council meeting in MQ s history. The North Queensland meeting included elections for the NQ Zone Committee as well as the election of the North Queensland members of various Motorcycling Queensland Subcommittees for In order to keep step with the introduction of staggered elections for the MQ Executive and Subcommittees, the election of Central Queensland s Subcommittee delegates will occur late in Finance The 2012 Financial Report for the overall entity of Motorcycling Queensland and its wholly owned subsidiaries, MQ Holdings and Queensland Moto Holdings shows a net surplus of $105,593 for the year. This is a reasonable surplus on a turnover of $3,402,251 and is principally due to steady general trading and a strong result from the operation of Queensland Moto Park at Wyaralong. Although there were some noticeable declines in income areas in 2012 such as licences and permits, these were offset by an extra $1.1 million income from QMP. In the areas of expenditure, savings on committee costs, office services and travel were countered by higher costs in almost all other areas, especially for wages, repairs and maintenance and other costs for the running of Queensland Moto Park. MQ increased its fees in 2012 by approximately 10% after remaining static for the past few years. Despite this increase, MQ s fees remain amongst the lowest of the states. On the Balance Sheet of the entire MQ entity, our equity in our assets, including land and buildings is $3,233,256. The annual grant which Motorcycling Queensland receives under the Sport and Recreation Organisational Development program from the Queensland Government showed a CPI increase to $155,400. Motorcycling Queensland thanks the Minister for Sport, Steve Dickson, and his departmental officers, for this assistance. Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 6

MQ continued its loans to clubs throughout MQ maintained its loan of $80,000 to Queensland Moto Holdings for the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club to build its supermoto track at Proserpine, and this track was opened in December Other loans were maintained for the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club and the Mike Hatcher Junior Motorcycle Club. A new loan was established for the Road Racing Association of Townsville. An existing loan was finalised by the Rockhampton and District Motocross Club. Sport Development Motorcycling Queensland s activities and commitment to the areas of coaching and officials training are detailed in the separate reports of the Coaching Committee and the Officials Review Board. These committees provide an excellent resource for the sport and have continued to advance the development of our coaches, our riders and our event officials. 43 Officials Training Seminars were run throughout Queensland in areas such as Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Ipswich, for more than 400 attendees. In 2012 MQ conducted two of its Club Development and Education Seminars in Ipswich and Townsville, and these seminars are planned to continue in A Supermoto Forum was conducted for riders, officials and other stakeholders. This forum was conducted at the Kedron-Wavell Services Club and attracted 25 participants. The forum provided the Queensland Supermoto Subcommittee with a wealth of knowledge to assist their future planning. Our major promotional activities continued through 2012 with display stands at the Laverda Concours at Cleveland and the Australian Motorcycle Expo on the Gold Coast as well as several promotions at Queensland Moto Park at Wyaralong and staff attendance at the Darling Downs Trail Ride Series. The Motorcycling Queensland Awards Night was held again at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and this continues to be a great venue for our showcase celebration of motorcycle sport which provides the recognition for our best in all aspects of the sport, including riders, coaches, officials and clubs. MQ has completed its first full year as the operator of Queensland Moto Park, a commercial off-road motorcycle park at Wyaralong, near Boonah. The park was officially opened on 18 December The project was jointly funded by the South East Queensland Council of Mayors, the Queensland Government and MQ which invested over $800,000 in the establishment of the project, sourced from our own funds and a loan from Motorcycling Australia. The park achieved a total attendance figure for 2012 of over 30,000 riders and showed a reasonably steady trading pattern across the year. It employs about five full time staff plus another dozen part time, casual and contract workers. In conclusion I would like to thank the members of the MQ staff, the Clubs, the Subcommittees and the MQ Board for their dedication, passion and support for motorcycle sport and recreation in Queensland. 8 Reports Officials Review Board (ORB) Report The Motorcycling Queensland Officials Review Board (ORB) meets on a monthly basis throughout the year, and continued to do so during The ORB is charged with the following responsibilities: determining upgrades for officials accreditations recommending applicants for upgrade to Level 4 accreditation to Motorcycling Australia assisting with the planning of Officials Training Seminars implementing action resulting from Stewards Reports initiating correspondence on issues involving officials recommending new strategies for the improvement of our officials and volunteers roles, etc. The ORB for 2012 consisted of Barry Newton, Joanne Astrop, Christine Jung, Weldon Jung, and Terry Wellsteed, each of whom brings a vast array of knowledge to the committee. The ORB also relies on input from Bud Markley in Central Queensland and Mark Franzmann in North Queensland. The start of 2013 saw the resignation of Joanne Astrop and Barry Newton and I would like to thank them for their input during their time on the ORB. In their place the MQ Board appointed Ted Brackman & Robert Eyres, Welcome, gentlemen to the ORB. In 2006 the ORB introduced the ORB Official of the Month award, and this has continued in For 2013 the format will change. Nominations will be accepted from Clubs as well as Stewards Reports and awards will be given monthly instead of yearly. These awards are for officials who have performed in an outstanding and professional manner. A minor offence and issues database was developed in 2011 to help track those minor disciplinary issues that occur on an occasional basis. These issues have, in general, shown a decrease for 2012 Letters of complaint on the conduct and actions of our officials decreased during 2012 and Stewards Reports were generally good but some still fail to handle issues on the day. For 2013 we shall be Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 8

developing new Steward s Reports and official forms in a format to allow them to be completed and submitted electronically. Twenty applications for licence upgrades to Level 3 and four applications to Level 4 were approved in There is a continuing concern about the length of time taken for MA to upgrade or renew Level 4 applications that have been endorsed by the ORB. With the re-forming of the National Officials Committee we hope this will not be an issue in the future. 43 Officials Training Seminars were run throughout Queensland in areas such as Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Ipswich, for more than 400 attendees. In 2012 more mid-week seminars were introduced. For 2013 an On-line Seminar will be introduced for the Generic course. This Seminar has been developed by Kim Rowcliffe, Michael Brown and Peter Bell and I thank them for their work. Hopefully this concept can be used in the future for other Seminars. Again as always, thank you to all our presenters for the great work and for giving up your time to run these Seminars. Unfortunately a few Event Audits were cancelled (like many events in 2012) due to weather. The audits which did take place found the events to be generally well run. For 2013 we will be back on track with our audit program. The ORB would like to thank all officials and volunteers for their input into motorcycling in Queensland. I would like to thank my fellow members of the 2012 ORB; Joanne, Christine, Weldon & Barry for their work, as well as Lindsay and all the staff in the office. Finally, our thanks go to Michael Brown for his assistance in the role of ORB Secretariat during Terry Wellsteed- chairperson Reports Coaching Committee Report The Motorcycling Queensland Coaching Committee s primary responsibility is to offer advice to the Motorcycling Queensland Board and Motorcycling Australia Coaching Commission on motorcycle coaching issues. The Committee takes this responsibility seriously and we aim to continue to improve the coaching systems within our sport. The Junior Coaching and Kick Start Programs seem to have been a continual point of reference over previous Coaching Committee Reports. It is with regret that I advise that the Queensland Coaching Committee is aware of attempts by other states to significantly water down the original intention of this program much to our disappointment. Throughout 2012 the Coaching Committee conducted five (5) Level 1 Coaching Courses and one (1) Refresher Coaching Course for a total of 62 attendees. Many thanks to our main Level 1 Coaching Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 9

Course Presenter - Dave Fuller and his pool of Course Presenters namely: Tania Millard, Leo Cash and Simon Wadwell. In 2012 the Coaching Committee once again conducted our Under 21s Elite Training Camp Program with our First Timers Camp and Refresher Training Camp running simultaneously at Kings College, in the University of Queensland s St. Lucia campus. I am pleased to report that the camps were once again an outstanding success and all attendees fully justified their selection. Thanks must go to Camp Presenters - Chris Urquhart, Dave Fuller, Annalise Chester and Jemma Wilson for their professional approach to the delivery of these camps. Garry McCoy was acknowledged with the Services to Coaching Award at the 2012 Motorcycling Queensland Awards Night, whilst David Roughley was presented with the Coach of the Year award congratulations to both who are continuing to make a significant contribution to coaching in Queensland. Many thanks to those who have served on the Coaching Committee over the past 12 months, namely John Urquhart, Bryan Tricklebank, Dave Fuller and Tania Millard, and thanks also to the support offered by the MQ Operations Manager Kim Rowcliffe. Rodney Jenner - Chairperson Reports Motocross Sub-Committee Report Our sport of motocross in Queensland for 2012 has once again proven to be very successful although unfortunately many of the events have showed a slight downturn in numbers. Motocross from club level through to the state and Australian Titles is struggling to keep up with the rising cost of running successful events. Some riders found it difficult to justify the cost of a racing licence and therefore numbers at our premier events were slightly lower than previous years. Three rounds of the Australian Motocross Championships were run in Queensland with all three proving to be very successful. The attendance of spectators at these rounds showed that the Queensland public has a strong affiliation with the sport of motocross. The 2012 Honda Junior Motocross Championships were again held at the Suncoast Junior Motorcycle Club at Coolum. This event was held in the September school holidays and proved to be very successful for the club and community in general. Almost 500 riders from all over Australia attended the event along with several New Zealand competitors and our Queensland representatives did Motocross in our state very proud. The Queensland Titles were once again proudly sponsored by Yamaha along with Flexi Hire. The Titles were held over a four day weekend at the Gum Valley Club in Central Queensland. This event brought Queensland s premier riders from all over the state and proved to be fantastic. Approximately 300 riders attended and all classes were hotly contested. 11 Women s motocross in Queensland is growing all the time and we are pleased that in 2013 the women will again be included in our state titles to be contested at the Townsville club. The Women s Subcommittee and the Motocross Sub-committee have been working together to make this possible. The Shell Advance Motocross Series, which is one of the most prominent motocross series in Australia, was again run over an eight round series. The weather was unkind in the first half of the year and unfortunately we lost the Hervey Bay round due to the bad weather conditions. We would again like to extend our thanks to Moto National for their ongoing sponsorship and support of the Shell Series in a very unsettled business era. The Motocross Sub-committee would like to thank interstate Pro riders Todd Waters and Jake Moss for their continued support of the Shell Series as many of our junior competitors look up to these riders. Unfortunately, the Thunder X Series did not get off the ground in 2012 because of lack of venues and high costs. The Motocross Sub-committee is hoping to bring back another Natural Terrain Motocross event in Sponsors play an important role in the running of the events listed above, and without their support these events would not have been possible. Without naming all of them, the Motocross Sub-committee and Motorcycling Queensland would like to thank all those businesses and people who have supported Motocross both financially and personally. The clubs also need to be recognised as a major part of running any motocross series. As we know, help and volunteers are getting harder to find and we would like to pass on our sincere thanks to all the clubs who took part in any of the series above. Without the participation of the clubs and their people we would not have a series or in fact a sport. The Motocross Sub-committee would like to thank Motorcycling Queensland and the office staff for all their help and support to all those involved with Queensland Motocross. Adrian Robinson-Chairperson Reports Dirt Track Sub-Committee Report The past year has seen our Dirt Track discipline hold steady in Queensland. The shortage of racing venues is still the most damaging factor to the discipline. It is exciting to welcome back Mike Hatcher Junior Motorcycle Club to the racing calendar. Congratulations to the members of this club who have worked tirelessly to make this happen. The Sub-committee would like to wish them all the best in their future events. The 2012 Queensland Dirt Track Championship was held at Ayr Motorcycle Club after the Whitsunday Dirt Riders withdrew from the event. The 2012 Queensland Long Track Championships were held at the North Brisbane Junior Motorcycle Club. Both championships offered some excellent competitive, skilful and safe racing on display. Many Queensland competitors also attended the various Australian Championships with great success to many. Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 11

The Matt Kuhne Perseverance Award saw Dirt Track clubs nominate Junior members from the 65cc age group. The award was won by Travis Hall from the Mike Hatcher Junior Motorcycle Club. The committee would like to thank the Kuhne family for their continuing support. The strong support and commitment by the Clubs shown in 2012 is encouraging for the continued growth of the discipline. Anne Morato- Chairperson Reports Road Race Sub-Committee Report The Queensland Road Race Sub-committee is made up of members from Mareeba in FNQ (Matthew Weinert), Townsville (Tim Hewitt) and three from the South East (Tom Williams, Lance Saunders and Leo Cash as Chairperson). Our committee meetings are conducted using Skype to the two members in North Queensland with the three SEQ members using the Motorcycle Sportsmen Club rooms in Albion. New Initiatives It has been business as usual for the Road Race Subcommittee over the past year, however initial conversations have begun with PCRA in Sydney regarding linking the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed and the Gregg Hansford Trophy (part of the Masters of Morgan Park event). The idea is to work together to promote both events to ensure good rider numbers. Upcoming Challenges The Queensland Road Racing Championships will be run a little differently this year to try to encourage more riders to participate. It has been poorly attended in recent years due to many circumstances and we are confident the new two round, one day format will help. Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 12

The Queensland Historic Road Race Championship is being currently run in two parts. In 2013 the championship will run up to Period 4 Unlimited, 350cc P5, 250cc P6 and all the Historic Sidecars in Townsville and the remainder of the Period 5 and 6 classes in Warwick, to help Townsville promote the event and lure riders to the north. This may change for next year where all classes of the QHRRC could be held at Morgan Park, Warwick. Successful Queensland Riders Simon Dickson, Gary Dickson, Kieran McGeown and Sean Purcell had great success at the Island Classic, and at the Australian Historic Road Racing Championships, Leo Cash produced a fine result. Lincoln Gilding became the 2012 ASBK Moto3 Champion. Nathan Houterman won the Kirk McCarthy Award which will support his racing in Troy Guenther was the NZ 125 champion, MRRDA 2 stroke champion and Queensland Junior Rider of the Year. Luke Burgess won the ASBK 250 Production championship and Linden Magee won the ASBK ProStock championship. Pinnacle Events in 2012 A number of events stood out in 2012 including the first race meeting for the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club in Proserpine, the Townsville TT and the Masters of Morgan Park. The Road Racing Club of Townsville won the MQ Club of the Year award. Special People/Volunteers The Subcommittee is particularly grateful to Tom Williams for his work with the RRSC, Motorcycle Sportsmen and the ASBK, as well as his continuing role as a Road Race Track Inspector. We are also very grateful to Sheralyn McGlinchey for her work with Motorcycle Sportsmen. Future Goals The Road Race Subcommittee is dedicated to continue promoting Road Racing in a very difficult financial environment for We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at MQ for their hard work and support. Leo Cash- Chairperson Reports Junior Sub-Committee Report Junior Development Fund During 2012, a number of Motorcycling Queensland subcommittees took up the opportunity to fund their junior activities through the Junior Development Fund that was coordinated by the Junior Subcommittee. The Junior Development Fund raises its income through a major raffle each year. Following are two of the successful applicants as chosen by the JSC. Queensland Enduro Junior Development Camp The Queensland Enduro Sub-committee (QESC), with support from the Motorcycling Queensland Junior Sub-committee s Junior Development Fund, held a Junior Development Enduro Training School. This was facilitated by Daniel McKenzie from the Academy of Off-road riding along with Queensland's current number 1 ranked Enduro rider, Tom McCormack and a number of Central Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 13

Queensland coaches who managed the Junior Development clinic at Drummonds Run Riding Facility (25mins north of Mackay at Mt Pelion) on 26/27 January, Queensland Moto-Trials 2 Day Junior Development Camp The Queensland Moto-Trials Sub-committee ran a 2 Day Junior Moto-Trials Development Camp for Queensland s young Moto-Trials riders. The camp was held at Queensland Moto Park, Wyaralong, and provided an opportunity for our up and coming junior Moto-Trials riders to be exposed to programs and information which will assist them in fulfilling their potential. The 2-day Camp focused on both on the bike training, as well as off the bike information. Off the bike training involved the provision of information on bike maintenance, bike set up and repairs. On the bike activities focussed on skill and technique improvement. Junior Development Fund Raffle winners The Junior Development Fund Raffle is set up to fund the activities taken up by the Motorcycling Queensland Sub-committees for their junior members. The winners were Braiden Tuckett from Bungadoo, Robert Eyres from Parkinson and Paul Chesher from Sandgate, all in Queensland. Junior Achiever of the Year The Junior Achiever of the Year selection was a difficult process for the JSC and after much deliberation the teenage Road Racing ace Troy Guenther from Woodford on the Sunshine Coast hinterland was chosen as Motorcycling Queensland's 2012 Junior Achiever of the Year. Fourteen year old Guenther had an outstanding 2012 season, breaking numerous lap records at tracks throughout Australia and abroad on his way to winning State and National titles South East Queensland Junior Motocross Series Unfortunately the Toowoomba round was called off due to bad weather and Round 1 was held at Coolum and saw 250 riders over 2 days. This was great event and entries only slightly dropped off for Tivoli, Kingaroy and Kilcoy but were a consistent average of 180 riders per round. The 2013 KTM SEQJMX series is already planned with four rounds starting at Coolum and then followed by Tivoli, Kilcoy and Toowoomba Australian Junior Motocross Titles - Coolum The Queensland Junior Motocross team achieved a noteworthy second place in last year s Interstate Challenge at the Australian Junior Motocross titles held at Coolum. The team (which was picked by the JSC) all rode exceptionally well at the event and achieved a fantastic second place overall for the event. With one of our riders out of contention in his first final, our backs were up against the wall but our riders put on an awesome display of skill and determination in the tough and challenging conditions. After a great season of racing by many kids state wide, all 14 riders who were chosen to represent their state thoroughly deserved their selection. It was an even tougher choice to pick the final team of 8 riders after practice had finished, as all of the riders rode strong, hard and fast, to compete in the Interstate Challenge. The eventual final eight riders were Joel Dinsdale, Caleb Ward, Wilson Todd, Kaleb Barham, Blake Colleton, Bailey Malkiewicsz, Mason Rowe and Jett Lawrence. With our team shirts designed by LKI, our team was noticed not just on the track but in the pits and at all parts of the venue. Well done to all involved. Peter Dark (Junior Subcommittee member) was Team Manager and made the big decisions on team tactics. Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 14

Grading The Junior Sub-committee also carried out the grading for Queensland s junior motocross riders. This is always a difficult job, but we encouraged riders to also put themselves up for consideration which worked well. The committee As chairperson, I would like to thank the other committee members for 2012; Andy Walmsley, Peter Dark, Julie Newsome and John Quadrio for going above and beyond what was expected of committee members. Simon Wadwell- Chairperson Reports Historic Sub-Committee Report The Historic Sub Committee has struggled this year to meet on a regular basis, partly because of an inconsistency in the number of committee members and partly because of the geographical and work schedule differences between members. It is hoped that this year will prove to be better. Riders who attended the 2012 Queensland Historic Road Race Championships in Townsville all reported a highly successful and enjoyable event held in conjunction with the Townsville TT. This past year has seen Historic Road Racing in Queensland hold steady with a limited agenda for competition will see two historic road race meetings held at Stanthorpe, in July and September. After their success with the running of the 2012 event, the Road Racing Association of Townsville will again host part of the 2013 Queensland Historic Road Race Championships, with the classes for larger and later model machines being contested at the Masters of Morgan Park event in Warwick. Motocross is still the best performing of the Historic off-road disciplines with little activity coming from the Historic Dirt Track and Trials. Brian M McGrath- Chairperson Reports Moto Trials Sub-Committee Report Firstly I would like to thank Robert Eyres as the outgoing Chairman for the time and effort he has put into Moto-Trials over the years and also as one of the Trials Commissioners. Robert s wealth of knowledge, dedication and impartial decisions have earned him the respect he deserves. Also I would like to thank Scott Carpenter as another outgoing sub-committee member, for his hours of work and Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 15

dedication. Robert s and Scott s shoes are surely large boots to fill. Thanks also to the other subcommittee members who have assisted me and Trials in general during 2012; Jeff Richards and new member Mac Hosking from Central Queensland Trials Club. Also thanks to all the staff at Motorcycling Queensland again for giving 110%. Again this year we have seen Moto-trials continue to grow with new faces showing up at nearly every event. The new affiliated Trials club, Central Queensland Trials Club, had a successful year running a number of club days as well as one of the Queensland Trials Series rounds. In 2012, the Moto-Trials clubs in Queensland ran a total of 25 events, with the main focus being to run friendly, safe and fair events to a very high standard and I am happy to say, that all were run with no issues or concerns arising throughout the year. Thanks again to the standard set by all the officials. In May of 2012 Australia hosted, for the first time ever, two rounds of the FIM world championships. These events were run in Maldon, Victoria on the 26 th and 27 th May This really showcased moto-trials at the highest level in Australia and saw crowds of around 7-8 thousand people each day with spectators standing 6-8 deep on most sections around the rocky hills of Maldon. Even some inclement weather did not put the spectators off! I would also like to thank the 25 Queenslanders who volunteered as observers during this history making event. The FIM were so impressed with the standard at which Australia put this event on, that the FIM will be back here in Australia in 2014 to host another 2 rounds of the World Trials Series. I would also like to thank those who have put their hand up to become officials and coaches over the last 12 months. This will relieve the pressure on some currently overworked officials who will appreciate the break. Our thanks also go to the staff at Motorcycling Queensland for assisting with organizing a number of evening official seminars including a coaching course where I was able to gather quite a number of Trials minded people to take part, some of whom now hold their Level 1 coaches licence. Lastly, I would like to thank Ray Buchanan for his huge assistance with allowing us to run a Junior Training day at the Queensland Moto Park at Wyaralong, on a wet Saturday of the Australia Day long weekend. Ray has maintained our Trials area and Trials practice area very well, with further areas to be cleaned out and developed. All the Juniors who attended the training camp enjoyed the new surroundings and playing in the wet conditions. Thanks again, to all that have supported me, the sub-committee and the sport of Moto-Trials throughout Andrew Carpenter- Chairperson Reports Speedway Sub-Committee Report Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 16

The Speedway Subcommittee would like to thank all Clubs, Officials, Volunteers and Competitors for the support given to our sport in the last twelve months. All the 2012 State championships were well supported. Congratulations to all the competitors who entered the Under 21, 350cc and 125cc Championships hosted by North Brisbane Junior Motorcycle Club, the Open Solo Championship hosted by Ayr Motorcycle Club and the Sidecars hosted by Mac s Speedway in Mackay. These events provided excellent racing and the winners were: U21 Kyle Howarth, 350 Matthew Day, 125 Brandon Coglan, Open Solo Josh Grajczonek and Sidecars Darrin Treloar and Simon Cohrs. Unfortunately there was another tragic loss to speedway, when solo rider Darrin Winkler lost his life after a horrific accident at Maryborough Speedway shortly after his return to his beloved sport. A great effort was shown by our Junior competitors, travelling all over the nation representing Queensland. To end on a high note, twelve year old Brodie Eves from North Queensland won the Australian Junior Under cc Championships hosted by Mildura. Brodie was the youngest rider ever to have won an Australian Under 16 Championship and also followed it up with winning the South Australian Under Championships at Sidewinders. Many thanks go to my fellow Speedway Subcommittee members and the staff of Motorcycling Queensland. Wayne Kennedy- Chairperson Reports Women s Sub-Committee Report Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 17

The Women s Sub-committee has enjoyed another progressive year. The inclusion of several new members onto the Sub-committee and some fresh new ideas has seen an expansion of the Go Girls Motocross series which continues to grow. The participation rate for Senior Ladies in both Motocross and Enduro continues to increase. Unfortunately the number of junior females is still disappointing, but hopefully the running of the Go Girls in SEQ will encourage more young girls to race. The Motorcycling Queensland Women s Sub-committee is constantly seeking feedback from all riders through our Facebook page on what they like and dislike and hopefully we can continue to meet the needs of all female racers in Queensland now and into the future. The 2012 Senior Women s Motocross Championships were held at Gladstone and received strong support from the senior ladies. Senior and junior females travelled from interstate to attend this event and the feedback was all positive. A review was held after this event to decide on a different format to attract more riders. Reestablishing the Go Girls series in SEQ in 2013 is part of the plan to increase participation in female motorcycle riding across all disciplines. The Women s Sub-committee has lobbied QMX to have the Senior and Junior females included in the State Motocross Championships alongside the boys to try and raise the profile of ladies and girls motocross throughout the state. It is anticipated this will happen in 2013 with a separate Senior Women s class and separate races for the junior women s classes if the number of female competitors is sufficiently high. The Central Queensland and Tropical North Queensland Motocross Series continue to attract increasing numbers of female riders. The senior ladies at CQMX in 2012 had a total of 22 riders, 18 of whom rode every round. These ladies have their own race and this is a big drawcard for the ladies knowing they will not have to contend with other classes. The TNQMX is also growing in popularity for female riders. The Women s Sub-committee has achieved considerable results through the holding of regular meetings via Skype, allowing the committee to have frank and open discussions to help advance our female riders and to converse on a regular basis. The Women s Sub-committee is currently working towards a uniform policy for grading all riders. Julie Maekye- Secretary Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 18

Reports Supermoto Sub-Committee Report Supermoto had a very successful year in Racing events increasing across the state, rider numbers improved at club level and new venues were established. The 2012 Queensland Championship Series went to three rounds with Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland (Stanthorpe), Whitsunday Moto Sports Club (Proserpine) and Far North Queensland Road Racing Club (Mareeba) all hosting rounds. All clubs did a great job of running the events however the promotion of the events could be improved overall. The rider numbers for the series were high but round participation was about the same as the previous year. Only around 25 people competed in all three rounds. The series catered for Quads and Juniors for the first time at Proserpine which went very well. Sponsorship levels were the highest ever with a lot of local support in Mareeba and Proserpine. Overall the series went well however the number of competitors competing at all three rounds is a concern. It was decided in 2013 the series would go back to two rounds, as Proserpine will be busy hosting the 2013 Australian titles. In 2012 club racing increased across the whole state with more events and riders than ever before. Motorcycle Sportsmen, CQ Mini Moto, FNQRR, RRAT and Whitsundays hosted Supermoto Club rounds and the numbers grew consistently all year. All clubs attracted new riders and support from their venues to continue on. Most clubs advised that Supermoto went against the trend of reduced numbers in other disciplines with consistency of existing entrants and new rider attraction. All clubs will be continuing with this in Venues are still a concern in South East Queensland while North Queensland got two new tracks in Townsville and Whitsundays. Currently there is no affordable Supermoto specific venue available for practice in South East Queensland. North Queensland has a lot of available track time and this will continue into the foreseeable future however the South East will struggle to attract new riders and maintain current numbers if a new venue is not found. The function of the committee was fairly consistent across the year. All members got along well and worked together and, more often than not, all members attended meetings, with other guests attending at times. Arranging meetings took time due to the work rosters of some members but overall the committee functioned well all year. Jovian Haidle remained on the National Supermoto and Dirt Track Commission, however this is not a functional committee and currently offers very little to the sport. At the end of the year MQ hosted a Supermoto Forum which was attended by parties from across the state. There was a lot of input and some new ideas discussed. Overall it was good but ultimately the ideas resulted in tasks for the committee which they find very hard to perform due to work commitments. Overall Supermoto is doing well in Queensland and will continue to develop further in From a committee point of view all members are very busy in their normal jobs, and this is slowing the progress which could be made for the sport. The clubs and riders are showing a lot of enthusiasm which I believe will help the sport develop and get stronger each year. The measured approach to redeveloping Supermoto in Queensland is really starting to show results and it should continue this way Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 19

so the future is stable in the long term. Once there is a new practice venue in South East Queensland, Supermoto as a discipline could be one of the strongest in the state. Jovian Haidle- Chairperson Affiliated Clubs 2012 Motorcycling Queensland 2012 Annual Report Page 20
