Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. and is nationally televised on ESPN2. This is the first meeting between the Aggies and Blue Devils. Fans can listen to the game on the Aggie Sports Network and on KGRT FM in Las Cruces with the pre-game show set for 4:30 p.m. with the Voice of the Aggies Jack Nixon calling the action. New Mexico State Aggies The Aggies are 0-1 after falling to Ohio, 80-72, in Athens, Ohio, Nov. 9. Senior guard/forward Justin Hawkins had the lone double-double of the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore guard Jonathan Gibson had a career-high 16 points. Four Aggies made their first appearance in an NMSU uniform. The game was head coach Marvin Menzies NMSU debut and a rematch of last season s ESPNU BracketBuster game. Duke Blue Devils Duke is 1-0 following a victory against N.C. Central in Durham, N.C., Nov. 9. The Blue Devils have won eight consecutive season openers. Duke had seven players in double-figures with freshman forward Taylor King leading the way with 20 points versus N.C. Central. Week Preseason Aggies in the Poll Ranking Not Ranked Series Notes Monday s meeting marks the first-ever meeting between New Mexico State and Duke. It is also the first nationally televised game for either team this season. Double Threat Senior guard/forward Justin Hawkins continues to direct the Aggies in after opening the year with double-double at Ohio. He had 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Hawkins led NMSU in both scoring and rebounding a year ago. Supreme Sophomore Sophomore guard Jonathan Gibson had a career night in the season opener at Ohio. The West Covina, Calif., native scored a career-high 16 points against the Bobcats. The performance broke last year s mark of 13 points against Norfolk State. Elite Company Senior guard/forward Justin Hawkins is only two points away from recording 1,000 points in his career. Only 23 Aggies in school history have accomplished just a feat. Cleaning the Glass In the first game of the season at Ohio, the Aggies hit the boards and out rebounded the Bobcats, NMSU also had the advantage in offensive rebounds, Senior Justin Hawkins led all players with 11 rebounds. Senior Martin Iti had a game-high four offensive boards while Hawkins and senior Hatila Passos added three each. Aggie Introduction Four Aggies made their first appearance in an NMSU uniform against Ohio in the season opener. Freshmen guard JayDee Luster and forward Wendell McKines both made contributions while sophomore guard Chris Carter and junior guard Paris Carter also recorded their first career points as an Aggie. At Your Own Risk The Aggies recorded four blocks against Ohio in the season opener, while NMSU didn t have a single shot blocked. Sophomore Chris Cole, seniors Fred Peete, Justin Hawkins and Martin Iti each had a block. Last season, Iti led the team with 40 blocks. Test Drive NMSU opens the year with a pair of road games for the first time since the season. The Aggies went 2-0 in exhibition games after defeating New Mexico Highlands, , Nov. 6 in Las Cruces. The Aggies had six players in double-digits against the Cowboys with senior guard Fred Peete leading the way with 17 points. Rewind The Aggies handled New Mexico Highlands, , in the final exhibition game, Tuesday, Nov. 6 in Las Cruces. Fred Peete led the team with 17 points on a 3-for-4 shooting performance from 3-point field goal range. Freshman forward Wendell McKines added 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Tip-Off Series Notes Monday s game is the first-ever meeting between NMSU and Duke. The match-up is featured on ESPN2, which is the first nationally televised game for either team this year. Week Preseason Aggies in the Poll Ranking Receiving Votes In the Zone In the second exhibition game versus New Mexico Highlands, Fred Peete had the hot hand with a team-high 17 points in only 22 minutes of action. The Memphis, Tenn., native grabbed six boards, dished three assists and went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. The senior gave the Aggies a 14-7 advantage before the first media timeout after a pair of 3-pointers. The Century Mark NMSU scored 100 points in the second exhibition game of the year against New Mexico Highlands. Freshman forward Wendell McKines gave the Aggies a lead on a commanding one-handed dunk. Hometown Hero Las Cruces, N.M. native freshman guard Gordo Castillo scored for the first time in an Aggie uniform against New Mexico Highlands. The crowd erupted after he hit both of his 3-pointers in the second half. At the Center Both of the centers had double-figure performances against New Mexico Highlands. Hatila Passos had 12 points and eight boards including four offensive rebounds while Martin Iti added 10 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks. Carter Connects In his first appearance as an Aggie, junior guard Paris Carter made a contribution off the bench with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. The Baltimore, Md., native was perfect from behind the arc in the second half with a pair of threes in the Aggies 19-3 run against Cal State L.A. Carter continued the double-digit trend with an 11-point performance versus New Mexico Highlands. Share the Wealth In the first exhibition game against Cal State L.A., the Aggies recorded 19 assists with sophomore guard Chris Cole leading with way with a game-high four assists. NMSU had five players with multiple assists including Justin Hawkins and Paris Carter with three each while Jonathan Gibson and freshman guard JayDee Luster added two apiece. In the second exhibition game against New Mexico Highlands, the Aggies collected 22 assists. 4 Head Coach Marvin Menzies Take Out New Mexico State Athletics Director Dr. McKinley Boston introduced Marvin Menzies as the new men s basketball head coach, June 29, Menzies is the 24 th coach in the history of Aggie basketball. Menzies spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach under Rick Pitino at Louisville. He replaced Reggie Theus, also previously an assistant under Pitino at Louisville, who accepted the head coaching position with the Sacramento Kings. Menzies is one of the best recruiters in the country after landing some of the nation s top recruiting classes in his 16-year collegiate career. Last season, Louisville finished 24-10, reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament and was No. 20 in the final USA TODAY/ESPN Men s Basketball Coaches Top 25 Poll. Prior to joining the Cardinals staff, Menzies spent one year at UNLV under former Atlanta Hawks coach Lon Kruger ( ). With the Running Rebels, Menzies helped sign an incoming class that was rated fourth in the nation. Before his time at UNLV, Menzies worked at Southern California for a season as an assistant coach ( ) under current Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Henry Bibby. In only one year with the Trojans, he assisted in producing a No. 3-ranked recruiting class. Menzies had a four-year tenure at San Diego State ( ). He was the leading recruiter for the Aztecs and Steve Fisher, who won the National Championship in Menzies helped to guide the Aztecs to the postseason in back-to-back years ( ) for the first time since At San Diego State, Menzies signed a pair of nationally ranked recruiting classes in 2001 (top 25) and 2000 (top 40) along with the program s first-ever McDonald s All-American. Menzies began his collegiate career at Santa Monica (Calif.) College as an assistant coach under current Aggie assistant coach John McMullen. Menzies spent six seasons as an assistant and associate head coach ( , and ). He was as the team s head coach for a year (in ) and guided the Corsairs to a 24-8 record. Menzies led Santa Monica to the Western States Conference title while he earned conference coach of the year honors. With Menzies on the staff, the program was a collective During his tenure, 38 players went on to NCAA schools. In 1996, the Corsairs produced a school-record 27-game winning streak and a school-best 32-2 finish. Menzies recruited the top three scorers in the school s history. Between his time at Santa Monica, Menzies was as an assistant coach at Cal State Sacramento ( ). He coached under current San Antonio Spurs assistant Don Newman as the program transitioned from Division II to Division I. Beginning his coaching career at his prep alma mater, Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, Calif., Menzies was an assistant coach for eight years. A California native, Menzies was a letterwinner in three sports at Hamilton. Menzies earned a bachelor s degree in economics from UCLA in 1987 and a master s degree in education from Cal State Sacramento. He and his wife, Tammy, have a daughter, Andreanna, and a son, Andre. The Aggie defense recorded nine steals against Cal State L.A. Fred Peete, Jonathan Gibson and JayDee Luster had two steals each. NMSU upped the defensive pressure versus New Mexico Highlands, which gave the Aggies 20 steals. Jonathan Gibson had a game-high six steals while Hawkins and Carter added three apiece. A New Leader Head coach Marvin Menzies became the 24 th coach in NMSU history, June 29, Menzies spent the two previous seasons as an assistant coach at Louisville. He also coached at San Diego State, UNLV and USC. Supporting Cast Menzies spent the summer hiring his staff including two new coaches. He retained Chris Pompey, who was an assistant coach with the Aggies last season. Menzies also hired John McMullen and Matt Grady as assistant coaches. McMullen spent 25 years as the head coach at Santa Monica College. Menzies and McMullen worked together for eight years at SMC. Grady, who most recently was the director of basketball operations at Cincinnati, was an assistant coach at Murray State and a graduate assistant at Louisville. The other new staff members include Gerald Lewis, Coordinator of Player Development, Paul Ivkovich, strength and conditioning coach, and Ryan Dozier, Program Specialist. Aggie Accolades Last season, senior guard/forward Justin Hawkins became the first Aggie to earn all-district honors (NABC and USBWA) since James Moore in Hawkins was a first team All- WAC and All-WAC Newcomer selection. In addition, he was named WAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after guiding the Aggies to their fourth conference tournament crown in school history. Senior guard Fred Peete also collected multiple honors last year. He was an All-WAC Newcomer and All-WAC Defensive team honoree. Peete was the first Aggie in school history to garner a defensive team award. Making History The Aggies are a senior-laden team with three starters returning. Last year, NMSU finished 25-9 and won its first WAC Tournament Championship. The Aggies also made their 17 th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since NMSU was voted to finish first in the Preseason WAC Media Poll and second in the Preseason WAC Coaches Poll. The Aggies return the leading scorer and rebounder from a year ago in senior guard/forward Justin Hawkins, who averaged 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. NMSU also has senior guard Fred Peete back after he led the team in steals last season with 45 and tied for a team-best 81 assists. He also averaged 9.5 points per game. Home Sweet Home The Aggies set a school record for home victories with 19 wins at the Pan American Center last season. The previous record was 16 wins, which NMSU set in , when the team finished the year 16-0 at home. The Aggies doubled their home attendance from the season when NMSU averaged 9,467 fans per game last year. Walk the Line Last year, the Aggies led the nation in both free throws made (641) and free throws attempted (975). A Look Ahead The Aggies return to Las Cruces and host UC Davis, Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m. NMSU s home opener is the first regional game of the Legends Classic. New Mexico State at Duke

Comcast affiliates in Las Cruces (Channel 4), Albuquerque (Ch. 53), Gallup (Ch. 66), and Santa Fe (Ch. 21) and Time Warner Cable in El Paso (Ch. 24) carry each of these events, while Altitude Sports & Entertainment and FSN-Arizona carries selected events. In most cases, these games are carried live, excluding in Las Cruces, where all games are tape delayed. He made his first appearance in an NMSU uniform in the inaugural Lou Henson Classic versus San Francisco (Dec. 2). Britt scored three points and grabbed a rebound in the win over New Mexico (Dec. 5).
