In Norman, the first and second rounds will be called by Dan McLaughlin (play-by-play) and Fran Fraschilla (analyst). The OU radio broadcast with Brian Brinkley and Kendra Wecker can be heard on the Sooner Sports Network (KOKC 1520 AM in Oklahoma City, KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa). The Teams Third-seeded Oklahoma is ranked No. 12 by the Associated Press and No. 12 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll. No. 11 seed Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR) is not ranked. Oklahoma is overall and finished 11-5 in the Big 12. The Sooners advanced after defeating South Dakota St., 68-57, in the first round Sunday, March 21. UALR is 27-6 overall and finished 17-1 in the Sun Belt. The Trojans won in their first NCAA tournament game, beating 6-seed Georgia Tech, 63-53, Sunday. The NCAA Championship The appearance is Oklahoma s 13th overall and 11th consecutive in the NCAA Championship. The Sooners are all-time in the NCAA tournament, losing last year to Louisville in the Final Four. Oklahoma advanced to the Sweet 16 in 1986, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007 and The Sooners played in the national championship in 2002, losing to Connecticut. Oklahoma has hosted the first and second rounds in Norman four times, achieving a 6-1 record. The Coaches Sherri Coale is (.685) in her 14th season at Oklahoma. Coale is in the NCAA Championship. PREVIEWING OKLAHOMA The Sooners were picked by the league s coaches to finish fifth in the strong Big 12 Conference this season, but tied for second in the final standings. Following a season when Oklahoma notched a program record 32 wins, won its sixth Big 12 regular season title and made its second trip to the Final Four, the Sooners had to make immediate solutions to losses of the Paris twins to graduation and star sophomore Whitney Hand to an ACL injury early in the playing season. The Sooners are overall and finished 11-5 in the Big 12 with the nation s toughest strength of schedule and No. 8 RPI. Saying Goodbye to Seniors Abi Olajuwon played behind Courtney Paris for three years but made her mark in her senior season as a dependable and athletic post presence. Olajuwon leads the team in field goal percentage (48.8 percent) and is the team s most efficient rebounder and second most efficient scorer by minutes played. More than 300 over her 400 career points and 200 of her 350 career rebounds were attained this season. Nyeshia Stevenson graduated from her role as Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year last season into a starting role where she has flourished. After arriving at OU as a project athlete who shot 18 percent from 3-point range as a freshman, Stevenson has many times been an offensive catalyst. Stevenson matched a singlegame 3-point record with nine makes against Marist and went 22 consecutive games making at least one trey, smashing the old record of nine set by none other than herself last season. Amanda Thompson will leave a legacy as an unquestioned leader among her peers. A team captain since her sophomore season, Thompson has been doing the dirty work since she first stepped on to the court. Thompson is the only Sooner ever to record 250 assist and 100 blocks and steals in a career and can add more than 1,000 total points and 800 total rebounds to those figures. Morrision was the Class B player of the year in 2009 and led Varnum High School to its first state championship title. Morrison scored over 2,400 points in her career, a figure that ranks among the top 10 all-time in Oklahoma prep history. Morrison enrolled at OU in the fall of 2008 and is pursuing a Bachelor s Degree in accounting. High School: Led Varnum to its first state championship title scoring 33 points in a victory over Cyril at the 2009 Class B State Tournament Final... Was the 2009 state tournament MVP, averaging 25.3 points... Finished career scoring over 2,400 points among the top 10 best total in Oklahoma prep history... Coale s first win came in her first game as OU s head coach, a victory over Oral Roberts on Nov. 22, The 100th win came 170 games later on Feb. 5, 2002, a win over then-no. 10 Baylor at Norman. Win No. 200 came 141 games later on March 8, 2006, a win over Iowa State in the first round of the Big 12 Championship. Coale Winningest in Big 12 Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale has a record of in Big 12 regular-season conference games, the best all-time. Coale is in her 14th season coaching the Sooners, all since the BIg 12 formed in Since then, no coach past or present has more wins in league play. OU FINISHES SECOND IN BIG 12 Oklahoma was selected to finish fifth in the Big 12 Conference in a crowded race at the top of the coaches preseason poll, but finished tied for second with Iowa State when it was all done. Baylor, picked the preseason favorite, finished sixth in the league. Texas and Kansas tied for second in the preseason vote, but finished fifth and 10th, respectively. Oklahoma s recruiting class was ranked sixth best in the country by Blue Star Report and 17th by ESPN HoopGurlz. Ellenberg, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, was rated a consensus top 50 player. The No. 6 point guard by Blue Star Report, Ellenberg averaged 18 points, four rebounds and three assists and steals as a junior. At 6-6, Griffin will become the tallest player to wear a Sooner uniform when she dons the Crimson and Cream in As a junior, she averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks. Hook, a 5-10 shooting guard, was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Arkansas last season. Hook averaged 18 points as a junior while shooting over 50 percent from the field, including a 44-percent mark from 3-point range. Jeffcoat, a 6-3 post, hails from Plano West High School where she led her team, averaging 7.6 points and 6.5 rebounds. Rated the No. 4 center and 41st overall by ESPN HoopGurlz, Jeffcoat has demonstrated the ability to play both the power forward and center positions in college. Jacqueline is the daughter of former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jim Jeffcoat. Yancey, a 5-8 shooting guard, was a teammate of Jeffcoat at Plano West and the District 8-5A Offensive Player of the Year. THREE SOONERS ALL-BIG 12 Oklahoma s Danielle Robinson, Nyeshia Stevenson and Amanda Thompson were named to the All-Big 12 Team in a vote by the league s coaches. Robinson, a unanimous choice, and Thompson were voted to the 10-member first team. Stevenson was selected to the second team. Robinson was also named to the All-Defensive Team for a second consecutive season. Two Collect Tournament Honors Danielle Robinson, who averaged 21.0 points and 4.3 assists, and Amanda Thompson, who averaged 18.3 points and 15.0 rebounds, were named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team. The Sooners fell to Texas A&M, 74-67, in the final round. Three Named Academic All-Big 12 Danielle Robinson (first team), Jasmine Hartman (second team) and Amanda Thompson (second team) were named to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Women s Basketball Team on March 4. Thompson Climbing Rebounding Charts Amanda Thompson passed Dionnah Jackson, who had 829, for sixth all-time on OU s career rebounding list March 2 at Texas A&M. Thompson had six rebounds in the game and now has 903 for her career. Thompson trails Phylesha Whaley for fifth by 23 rebounds and Caton Hill, fourth all-time, by 75 boards. Thompson on for Game Winners The Sooners have won 12 games by less than 10 points and Amanda Thompson has shot the game-winner in five of those. St. (3/13) 5 Robinson FT (0:38) Three Reach 1,000 Career Points Sooners Danielle Robinson, Amanda Thompson and Nyeshia Stevenson have reached 1,000 career points scored this season. Robinson scored nine points to become Oklahoma s 23rd player to reach 1,000 in a career against Marist, Dec. 9. Thompson reached 1,000 career points with a 16-point effort versus No. 1 Connecticut on Feb. 15. Stevenson scored 28 points versus Texas on Feb. 27 to reach the milestone. Robinson Breaks Multiple FT Records OU junior Danielle Robinson finished the season as one of the nation s leading free throw shooters. And this year, she is finding many of her opportunities at the line. Robinson is 144-of-165 (.873) from the charity stripe this season, including a 91-of-95 (.958) effort in Big 12 games. The junior broke her own OU record (previously 30 set last season) for consecutive free throws made with a streak of 35 straight that ended with a miss on her first attempt against Baylor, Feb. 10. Against Oklahoma State on Feb. 6, Robinson made 16-of-16 free throws, breaking OU and Big 12 records for best singlegame FT percentage and most consecutive single-game FT. Stevenson Matches 3FG Record, Ends Another Nyeshia Stevenson s nine 3-pointers made versus Marist helped her establish a new career scoring high and also matched a 28-year-old Sooner record. The only other Sooner to make as many 3-pointers in a game was Carin Stites, who did it twice -- vs. Arkansas on Nov. 27, 1990, and vs. UT-San Antonio on Jan. 21, Stevenson s streak of consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer ended March 2 vs. Texas A&M at 22, breaking her previous record of 9 games set last season. Thompson One of a Kind Senior forward Amanda Thompson, a.k.a. The Waitress, loves to serve up people. She s only the second Sooner ever -- the other being Courtney Paris -- to record 100 blocks and 100 steals in her career. She s the only one to do so and have 250 assists. Against Oklahoma State on Feb. 6, Thompson reached her 800th rebound and 250th career assist, making her one of OU s most prolific players, statistically, on both offense and defense. Block Party Amanda Thompson is the only Sooner in history under 6-foot-2 to have 30 or more blocks in a season -- a feat she has achieved three times. Thompson reached 30 blocks as a senior in 27 games and currently has 34. Amanda Thompson had 21 blocks as a freshman, 34 as a sophomore and 31 as a junior. She ranks third all-time on OU s career blocks charts, behind only Courtney Paris (446) and LaNae Jones (243).

5 G a m e P r e v i e w 5 CATON HILL DEPLOYS Caton Hill built a reputation as a hard-nosed player for Oklahoma, a rugged rebounder who played in a school-record 140 games. Her coach calls her a player who defines the Sooners program. Hill, now a U.S. Army captain, said Wednesday that lessons learned from her basketball career should help her deal with challenges she might face while on combat duty in Afghanistan. She leaves for a one-year deployment on Friday - and she s nervous. It will be a great experience, but it s still scary, said Hill, who is from Ada. You have to respect the situation.... It s not like I m going out and doing a lot of risky business, but I m still there (in Afghanistan) and I m a flight surgeon. There is some anxiety, but a lot of stuff you can t control, so I focus on what I can control. Hill said she will serve as a flight doctor for the Army s 3rd Infantry Division, Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment - also known as the Task Force Brawlers - primarily working with helicopter pilots on the front lines. Hill, a 6-foot-1 forward, played for the Sooners from 1999 to 2004 and is sixth on Oklahoma s career scoring list with 1,653 points. She twice earned All- Big 12 Conference honors from coaches and started for Oklahoma s 2002 national runner-up squad. She was a relentless competitor on the basketball floor, a do all the dirty jobs kind of post/power forward, Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale said. She was never the biggest or the fastest, and I used to joke that you could put a couple of pieces of paper under her feet when she jumped.
