Robinson a Gamebreaker in NCAAs OU s Danielle Robinson is proving herself as one of the nation s elite point guards with her play in this year s NCAAs. Robinson was perfect against Georgia Tech in OU s second round victory, going 5-for-5 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free throw line to lead all scorers with 17 points. Robinson s first-round performance was one of her best, totaling 15 points, a career-high seven rebounds, six assists and four steals in just 28 minutes. She added 10 points, 4-of-6 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws, in the Sweet 16. In four NCAA games, Robinson is the Sooners leading scorer, averaging 16.3 points. Robinson has made 22 of 34 field goals (.647) and 21 of 23 free throws (.913) while dishing 21 assists, grabbing 19 rebounds and counting nine steals. Six-Pack of Stuffing Courtney Paris six blocked shots versus Georgia Tech matched the most by a player in a single game thus far in the tournament and she repeated the feat with another six against Purdue in the regional final. Michigan State s 6-9 center Alyssa DeHaan, also had six in her team s first round victory over Middle Tennessee. Against Purdue, Paris became the first woman in NCAA history to record 100 blocks in each of her four seasons. Paris 18 blocks leads all players in the NCAA Championship. Oklahoma leads Final Four teams with 5.8 blocks per game. Hand Regains Form After failing to score in the Big 12 Championship, her only two career games with zero points, Hand looked rusty in OU s first-round matchup with Prairie View. The freshman shot 2-of-13 from the field, including a 2-of- 10 performance from beyond the arc. However, she returned to the court two nights later to provide one of her best performances of the season, a 15-point effort driven by 5-of-9 field goal shooting and a 3-of-6 3-point mark. Against Pittsburgh in the Sweet 16, Hand led all scorers with a career-high 22 points and was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. In the Oklahoma City Regionals, Hand provided OU s spark, making 12-of-32 shots from beyond the arc. Hand was named to the all-region team. Free Throws No Problem Oklahoma s free throw percentage has risen dramatically in the NCAA Championships. Averaging just 66 percent from the charity stripe as a team entering the NCAA tournament, OU has made 77 percent (62-of-122) of its free throws. Courtney Paris is the only Sooner to have missed more than two free throw attempts (15-of-23) in the NCAA tourney. OU Versus Ranked Opponents Oklahoma will play its 16th ranked opponent of the season when it meets Louisville Sunday night. Oklahoma is 11-4 versus the current AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25. OU has not lost to a team ranked lower than 11th in either poll and two of OU s four losses were by one point. OU and the RPI Oklahoma entered the NCAA tournament No. 3 in the RPI. Connecticut was No. 1, Louisville fourth and Stanford 10th. Oklahoma has not lost to a team below 11th in the NCAA s RPI and is 15-4 against the RPI Top 50. All-Time vs. Final Four Opponents Oklahoma and Louisville have never met, but the Sooners do have history with possible national championship game opponents Connecticut and Stanford. OU is 0-7 all-time versus UConn with a 28-point loss to the Huskies earlier this season. OU and UConn have met twice previously in the NCAA tournament. UConn beat OU in the 2000 East Region (Richmond, Va.) Semifinal and for the 2002 National Championship. OU is 2-4 versus Stanford with a 1-2 record against the Cardinal in the NCAA Championship. The Sooners beat Stanford in the 2001 second round (Norman, Okla.) but lost to the Cardinal in second round in 2004 (68-43) and in the 2006 Sweet 16 (88-74). In St. Louis The Sooners have played only once in St. Louis, Mo., defeating Saint Louis University, 87-61, earlier this season on Dec. 30, at Chaifetz Arena. Six Sooners scored in double figures with Nyeshia Stevenson shooting 6-for-9, 3-for-3 from 3-point range, for a teamleading 18 points.

The Sooners have shot 50 percent or better from the field in 17 of 36 games this season after doing so only seven times last year. Of course, the high field goal percentages has Oklahoma scoring on more chances, which is why OU s scoring offense (76.2 points per game) is 11th nationally. Amazing Attendance Oklahoma s 2009 total home attendance of 153,116 set a program record. The average home attendance of 9,007 was the third best in program history and ranked fourth nationally. A visit by the Sooners raised its opponents attendance by 25 percent over its season average. The Sooners were the top draw for Saint Louis, Nebraska and Oklahoma State this season and its win over California in San Jose set a SJSU Event Center record for women s basketball with a crowd of 2,636 in attendance. Oklahoma s quarterfinal attendance in the Big 12 Championship was 7,634, a record for a quarterfinal morning session. Amazing Attendance The Sooners have built one of the largest fan followings in the nation. Here s a quick look at the attendance records set recently by the program: NCAA Championship Game Record Attendance: 29, Big 12 Championship Game Record Attendance: 12, Program record for home average: 10, State record for single-game women s attendance: 13, Program record No. 3 national attendance ranking: 10, Lloyd Noble Center three consecutive sellouts to finish season Averaged 42 percent increase for opponent during road games Set Lloyd Noble Center women s basketball record: 12, Set program s total attendance record: 153,116 The Circus Comes to Town When UConn visited Norman to play the Sooners during the season, a then-record crowd of 10,713 attended the game at the Lloyd Noble Center. OU head coach Sherri Coale likened the experience to the circus coming to town. It seems that Oklahoma now has its own three rings. A visit by the Sooners in boosted its opponent s attendance by 25 percent over its season average. Thrust Into Action Nyeshia Stevenson adopted a new role as a starter following the injury to freshman guard Whitney Hand and now for Amanda Thompson. Stevenson came off the bench for the first 26 games of the season, but filled in for four games to finish the regular season. 8 Oklahoma Women s Basketball Game Notes Season Notes 8 The Greatest Comeback in NCAA History Led by Nyeshia Stevenson s 21 second-half points, Oklahoma engineered the greatest comeback win in regulation in NCAA history against then-no. 9 California in San Jose, Calif., on Dec. 13. Oklahoma trailed at the half and began a 10-0 run in the second half with 19:00 remaining. The Sooners also reeled a 28-0 run from 9:00 to 0:42 in which OU made 6-of-12 field goals and Cal missed 11 consecutive. Eleven of Stevenson s 21 points came during this run, including the tying, go-ahead and, eventually, winning field goals. OU led points off turnovers, 20-0, in the final period. The only team to win from a greater deficit was Texas State, which trailed UT-San Antonio 40-8 (32 points) with 2:18 remaining in the first half and won in overtime on Feb. 18, Texas State s halftime deficit in that game was 27 points. All About the Ball Oklahoma, accustomed to playing at home with the Nike 3005 N-Touch Tournament ball, played three straight games with the Wilson Solution after starting at Arkansas State Sunday, Dec. 7. Nine of the Big 12 teams use the Nike game ball, while Kansas and Nebraska use the Adidas The Superstar Pro. Texas A&M is the only Big 12 school to use the Wilson Solution. Oklahoma was 22-2 using Nike, 2-0 with Adidas and 8-2 with the Wilson ball. The Wilson ball will be used throughout the NCAA Championship. Bench Support Oklahoma s depth has taken a hit with a finger injury keeping freshman guard Whitney Hand out of the starting lineup for the next few games. Nyeshia Stevenson, the conference s top scoring reserve and shoo-in for Sixth Man of the Year, has taken her place. Stevenson accounted for 49 percent of OU s total bench points before taking the starting role. In OU s loss to Texas A&M, the Sooner bench was outscored 19-0 by A&M s reserves. The tables flipped in OU s win versus Oklahoma State as the Sooners, led by 15 points from Jenny Vining, outscored the Cowgirls reserves In Oklahoma s 32 wins, the Sooner bench has outscored the opponent s bench , or an average of In four losses, OU s bench has been outscored 92-33, or 23 to 8 per game. Oklahoma had only one loss -- the Big 12 Championship semifinal to Texas A&M -- when its bench outscored its opponents bench. The Sooner bench outscored the Aggie reserves Stevenson...Beyond the Arc Junior forward Nyeshia Stevenson set an OU record by making nine consecutive 3-point field goals. Stevenson was a perfect 4-for-4 in the second half versus California and 2-for-2 in the game against Tulsa and 3-for-3 at Saint Louis for a total of nine consecutive 3-pointers made. Stevenson s streak of nine straight games with at least one 3-pointer ended as she was held scoreless Jan. 18 versus Texas A&M. Stevenson is second the Big 12 Conference in 3-point field goal percentage (.379). As a freshman, Stevenson made just 2-of-11 (.182) 3-pointers. As a sophomore, she improved to 28-of-82 (.341). Already in , the junior has made 50 of 132 (.379). Point of Order Danielle Robinson s improved efficiency at point guard as a sophomore is incredible considering she was, statistically, the top freshman point guard in the nation last season, leading her to Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors. Robinson has 207 assists to 146 turnovers in , a 1.4 assist-to-turnover ratio, and leads the team with 81 steals. Robinson has also been spreading the ball around well, counting assists to nine teammates. Her only exceptions: reserves Rose Hammond, Jasmine Hartman and Carolyn Winchester. Teammate Assists by Robinson Courtney Paris (of 231 made field goals, or 19 percent) Whitney Hand (of 103, 41%) Ashley Paris (of 189, 21%) Nyeshia Stevenson (of 120, 20%) Amanda Thompson (of 104, 18%) Jenny Vining (of 39, 33%) Carlee Roethlisberger (of 54, 26%) Lauren Willis (of 4, 50%) Abi Olajuwon (of 12, 8%) Robinson Passes 200 Assists Milestone Danielle Robinson s 207 assists are a sophomore single-season record for Oklahoma and the third most in a single season ever for a Sooner. Only Stacey Dales (248 in 2001) and Sharee Mitchum (242 in 1994) have more. Robinson Taking From Charity Sophomore guard Danielle Robinson leads the Big 12 Conference in free throw percentage (.906, 115-of-127) and is second nationally. The statistic is just one example of the point guard s remarkable improvement from her freshman season when she made just 68 of 99 (.687) free throws. Robinson s 9-for-9 free throw shooting against Texas A&M (Jan. 18) was the best by a Sooner since Maria Villaroel made 11-of-11 versus Missouri on Feb. 26, Robinson set an OU record by making 30 consecutive free throws, ending with her third attempt against Texas (Jan. 25). LaNeisha Caufield (2002) held the Oklahoma record for consecutive free throws at 29. Electric Defense Sophomore point guard Danielle Robinson, last year s only rookie on the Big 12 s All-Defensive Team, has taken 26 charges in 36 games. Runaways Oklahoma has put away opponents early by opening with large runs. The Sooners took a 13-0 lead on North Carolina Central (Jan. 4) and then a 15-0 lead on Nebraska (Jan. 10). Those are just two of the 39 scoring runs of 10 or more points the Sooners have had this season. Oklahoma s last was an 11-0 run versus Purdue lasting from 17:09 to 12:55 of the second half. OU s comeback versus California featured a 28-0 run that last from 9:00 remaining to the final 30 seconds of that game. The Sooners quickest 10-0 run lasted 2:11 over both sides of the break against No. 1 Connecticut. Oklahoma has even had three double-digit runs in one game, doing so with 12-point first half, 13-point over-the-break, and 13-point second half runs against Creighton.

For a player who had broken a myriad of records, a trip to the Final Four was about the only thing Paris hadn t done in her time at Oklahoma. She is the NCAA s best rebounder of all time and added another accomplishment to her list against Purdue by becoming the first player ever to block at least 100 shots in each of her four years in college. The Sooners (32-4) are headed back to the Final Four for the first time since losing to Connecticut in the 2002 championship game and will face Louisville, an upset winner against top-seeded Maryland, in the national semifinals in St. Louis. Paris let her emotions run wild during the game. She stomped for a few steps after drawing a foul during the 11-0 run that gave the Sooners the lead for good and flapped her arms to encourage the crowd after she -- as a 56 percent free-throw shooter -- hit two late foul shots to push the lead to nine in the final minute. Danielle Robinson added 23 points for Oklahoma, hitting seven free throws in the final 2½ minutes to close out the game. Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton held her own against Paris to lead sixth-seeded Purdue (25-11) with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Lakisha Freeman and Brittany Rayburn scored 12 points apiece. (AP) -- Ashley Paris scored 13 points, Courtney Paris managed 12 points and 12 rebounds and the Sooners beat 13th-seeded Illinois State on Sunday in the first round of the Oklahoma City regional. With the Redbirds sometimes assigning three players to guard Oklahoma s leading scorer, Courtney Paris teammates picked up the slack. Danielle Robinson and Rose Hammond both scored 12 points, and Amanda Thompson had nine points, eight rebounds, five assists, four blocks and three steals for fourth-seeded Oklahoma (22-8). (5) Notre Dame 79, (4) Oklahoma 75 - Overtime WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Charel Allen scored a career-high 35 points, had six rebounds and made all the big plays late to help Notre Dame rally from a five-point overtime deficit and beat fourth-seeded Oklahoma in overtime. The Irish (25-8) are headed to the regional semifinals in Oklahoma City, where they will face top-seeded Tennessee on Sunday. The Lady Vols routed Purdue in Tuesday s other game, coach Pat Summitt s 100th career win in the NCAA tourney. Courtney Paris, last year s national player of the year, finished with 24 points -- all in the final 34 minutes after being shut out for nearly and 16 rebounds. Points in the Paris Coined by Nancy Lieberman after witnessing OU s dominating inside game against Georgia in 2008, Oklahoma opponents can forget about outscoring the Sooners in the paint thanks to the Paris twins. Last year, OU outscored opponents in the paint by an average of 41 to 22. Courtney supplied 15 per game (37 percent) in the paint while Ashley contributed seven points (18 percent) in the paint per game. Together the sisters averaged 22 points in the paint -- as much as the entire opposing roster and half of OU s total. OU has outscored opponents 1, in the paint, an average of 40-21, in Courtney has provided 11.9 per game (30 percent, 428 total) and Ashley 8.1 (20 percent, 290 total). Twice as Nice The Paris twins have scored in double figures in the same game on 58 occasions, achieving the feat 23 times in and 20 times in after doing so 11 times in Courtney has scored in double figures in 132 career games and Ashley in 59. The duo has posted a doubledouble in the same game 27 times (four as freshman, two as sophomores, five as juniors, 16 as seniors). OU is 51-7 when both Parises reach double figure scoring and 22-5 when both achieve a double-double. Paris No. 1 on NCAA Rebounding Chart Courtney Paris eight rebounds versus Oklahoma State pushed her past Wanda Ford of Drake ( ) for the NCAA Division I record for career rebounds. Paris entered the Feb. 8 game tied with Ford at 1,815 career rebounds. Paris also earned the Big 12 career scoring and field goals made records during the game. Courtney Paris Tops Wayman Tisdale Courtney Paris pass Wayman Tisdale ( ) as the career scoring leader for both men s or women s basketball at the University of Oklahoma with 2,715 points. However, Tisdale s total of 2,661 points came in just three seasons. Paris and Double-Figure Scoring Courtney Paris became the NCAA career leader in doublefigure scoring games with her performance against Prairie View in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Championship. Paris fell just shy of the NCAA record for most consecutive double-figure scoring games, which belongs to LaToya Thomas of Mississippi State ( ) at 125. Paris streak of double-figure games ended at 120 on Feb. 2 vs. Tennessee when she scored just nine points. Paris has had only four games in her career without a block. Block Party Courtney Paris is the first player in NCAA history to have at least 100 blocks in four seasons. She set the NCAA freshman single-season blocks record at 119 and then had 111 as a sophomore and 108 as a junior. In her senior year, she has recorded 104 blocks. Paris streak began with a 22-point, 24-rebound effort versus UCLA on Dec. 5, 2005, and lasted 1,159 days. Courtney Paris has collected 127 double-doubles in 136 career games. Officially a Record It has long been thought that Courtney Paris double-double numbers were NCAA records. Beginning with the season, those statements are now factual. The NCAA has introduced several double-double records for women s basketball. Consider: Double Double-Double Paris has played 11 games in which she has reached 20 points and 20 rebounds. Double-Double Animal Style Paris has 33 career games in which she has reached a double-double and recorded five or more blocks. Her last was a 19-point, 13-rebound, six-block performance versus Purdue in the Oklahoma City Regional Final. The Double-Double Half Paris has achieved a double-double 36 times in a single 20-minute period. She has reached the double-double figure by halftime on 15 occasions and has played 21 second halves in which she achieved a double-double. Paris had 10 double-double halves as a freshman, 14 as a sophomore, six as a junior and four as a senior. Paris career high for points in a half is 23 (Michigan St., Dec. 21, 2005; New Mexico, Dec. 30, 2006; and Okla. State, Feb. 4, 2007) and rebounds in a half is 18 (Texas Tech, Feb. 27, 2008). Comparing to Counterparts Beginning with the season, the NCAA officially recognized double-double records for women s basketball and, as was widely believed, Courtney Paris has owned them for quite some time. Even when comparing her game to the men s game, the records speak for themselves. The longest men s double-double streak was 40 games by North Carolina s Billy Cunningham, which coincidentally began on the same day (Dec. 5), 43 years prior to Paris streak. The most career double-doubles by the men belongs to Tim Duncan, who recorded 87 in his four seasons at Wake Forest ( ). The top five men s records are below.
