On Dec. 16, Thompson posted her first career double-double as she led the Sooners rally against Michigan State. State 1, Utah 1, Wake Forest 1 Season Ticket Update As of Monday, Dec. 17, the OU Athletics Ticket Office had sold approximately 6,592 season ticket packages. The number breaks the record of 6,465 season tickets bought for OU women s basketball last season. Though reserved level season tickets have sold out, general admission season tickets remain and fans are encouraged to purchase them prior to the start of the season. GA season tickets are available for $115. Group and single game tickets became available Monday, Nov. 19. Single game tickets for all home games are $8 for adults and $5 for youths (K-12). The Sooner fan base is one of the nation s fastest growing. The Oklahoma women s basketball team ranked No. 4 in attendance last season, averaging 10,437 fans. That was an increase of 37 percent from the season when Lloyd Noble Center games averaged 7,630, which was an increase of 35 percent over the previous season. National Attendance Leader Oklahoma set a program record for attendance last season and, if early indications prove true, another record should be set in After three home games, OU s per game attendance average stands at 9,608, currently No. 4 in the nation for average home game attendance. Oklahoma was No. 4 in national attendance last season and No. 2 in the Big 12 Conference with an average of 10,437 in the seats for OU s 12 home games. the Nation s Toughest Start Oklahoma will play 11 regular-season games, among eight different teams, ranked in the USA Today/ESPN Preseason Coaches Poll. That is not the toughest schedule in the nation as No. 1 Tennessee will look to earn its way back to the national title game with 12 games among 11 preseason Top 25 teams. However, OU will face a tougher start than any other team in college basketball with its first three games among teams in the top 12, including No. 1 Tennesee and No. 4 Maryland -- the past two national champions. All three of these games will be played at neutral sites. After games played through Dec. 6, Oklahoma s strength of schedule was rated No. 4 in the RPI. Previewing South Carolina After losing to new No. 1 Connecticut, 97-39, the Gamecocks have posted two straight wins including a win at Clemson on Saturday, Dec. 22. Led by freshman guard Jordan Jones, who averages 13.4 points, South Carolina has four players who average double-digit scoring. OU and South Carolina have had one common opponent thus far. South Carolina lost to Illinois, 91-58, on Nov. 23, at the FIU Thanksgiving Classic in Miami, Fla. The Sooners defeated the Fighting Illini in Champaign, Oklahoma defeated South Carolina, 78-51, in Columbia, S.C., last season. Courtney Paris had 15 points and 16 rebounds as the Gamecocks starting five were held to just 18 points combined. As of Thursday, Dec. 27, Oklahoma is No. 14 in projected RPI standings. Two, is to cut down on turnovers and, specifically, be in the top three in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio. Here is where the Sooners presently stand on meeting their team goals. RECAPPING CENTRAL ARKANSAS Courtney Paris recorded her 71st consecutive double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds as No. 9 Oklahoma matched its program record for points scored rolled into the holiday break with a rout of Central Arkansas. All but one of the 12 players who suited up scored for Oklahoma (8-2), which hasn t lost since falling to Maryland and Tennessee in the Sooners first two games of the season. Eight of them reached double figures, including freshman Jenny Vining, who had 18 points. Central Arkansas suited up only eight players, including four freshmen, and suffered its second-worst loss ever. The Sugar Bears, members of the Southland Conference, are in their second season in NCAA Division I after going last season. Their only wins this season have come against Grambling State and Division II Arkansas-Monticello. The game figured to be a mismatch. Oklahoma s RPI rating entering the game was 10, while Central Arkansas was 337, out of 339 Division I basketball teams. Sure enough, Oklahoma sprinted to an 18-0 lead in the first five minutes and led by halftime, even as Coale subbed early and often. The Sooners missed the school record for points in a half -- set against Midwestern State (Texas) in January by two points, and tied the school mark for fewest points allowed in a half, set against Texas A&M on Jan. 26, Paris, who played 22 minutes, was one of two Oklahoma players to record a double-double. Her primary backup, sophomore Abi Olajuwon, had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Carlee Roethlisberger had 10 points and eight rebounds. Oklahoma passed the 100-point mark on a follow shot by Roethlisberger with 7:37 left and tied the school single-game scoring mark on Rose Hammond s basket with 16 seconds left. The Sooners also scored 121 points in a win over Prairie View A&M on Nov. 29, Oklahoma outrebounded Central Arkansas and went 53 of 90 from the field, a 59 percent clip. The Sooners broke the Big 12 Conference record for made field goals of 51, set by Texas against Centenary on Dec. 16, Landmark Second Half Oklahoma s 11-point halftime deficit was its largest to overcome for victory in the Sherri Coale Era. Oklahoma s 49 points in the second half was its most when trailing at the half and ending with a win. Oklahoma s 22-point second-half margin was its largest hen trailing at the half and ending with the victory. Oklahoma s 17 points in the first half was it s fewest in 129 games, when it trailed in the first half in a loss against Texas on Jan. 10, Amanda Thompson s double-double, of which 10 points and nine rebounds came in the second half, was the first of her career and the first by a current Sooner not named Paris. Fantastic Four Minutes Oklahoma walked away from East Lansing, Mich., with a victory thanks in large part to how it opened the second half. It s been a trend of Sherri Coale-coached teams to come out from the locker room much more intense than their opponents to start the second period. Considering that a four-minute interval is 10 percent of a game, during the first four-minute interval following halftime Oklahoma holds a statistical advantage over its opponent in all categories except 3-point field goal percentage. During the span, OU is shooting 29 percent (2-of-7) while opponents are shooting 40 percent (4-of-10) from beyond the arc. Oklahoma is scoring 13 percent of its points. Opponents are scoring 11 percent. Oklahoma s assist-to-turnover ratio is 1,64, almost twice as positive as its season average of percent of Oklahoma s field goals are assisted compared to just 52 percent for the rest of the game. OU is making 22 percent more field goals than its opponent during this span, but only 13 percent more during the rest of the game. Oklahoma blocks 19 percent of its shots while opponents tally eight percent. Oklahoma counts 13 percent of its steals while opponents count 10 percent. Oklahoma commits just seven percent of its fouls while opponents commit 10 percent. The Sooners take only five percent of their 3-point field goal attempts during this span. Opponents take six percent. Oklahoma is outrebounding opponents during this span by 1.1 per game.

4 3-PT. Feast or Famine One of OU s longest miscellaneous streaks ended against Arizona State (Nov. 22) when OU failed to make a 3-pointer (0-for-4) for the first time in 132 consecutive games. The last time the Sooners did not make a 3 was Nov. 24, 2003 versus Southeast Missouri State (0-for-7) in the second game of that season. Next rankings Jan. 4. Twice as Nice The Paris twins have scored in double figures in the same game on 24 occasions, achieving the feat six times in after doing so 11 times last season. Since Courtney has scored in double figures in all of her 79 career games, the 24 occasions account for every double-figure game of Ashley s career. The duo has posted a double-double in the same game six times (four as freshman and two as sophomores). OU is 22-2 when both Parises reach double figure scoring and 6-0 when both achieve a double-double. Ashley Paris as a Starter Since taking over as a full time starter, Ashley Paris is making her name as well known as her sister s. Prior to the season, she had 15 starts in 69 games. Robinson OU freshman Danielle Robinson has marked herself as a primetime player. Nothing has proved that more than her production in OU s four games versus Top-25 ranked opponents. The following is a look at her averages in games against ranked opponents compared to OU s other matchups. Robinson scored eight of her 14 points against Illinois in a 16-3 run in the second half, lifting the Sooners to a lead with 3:36 remaining. Robinson also had back-to-back steals for layups in the stretch. The Sooners won, 77-67, as Robinson recorded a career high seven steals to give her 22 on the season. Of her 114 points scored this season, 36 (32 percent) have come by way of the fast break, including 10 of her 18 against Arizona State and six of 12 versus Michigan State. After shooting 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from beyond the arc all last season, Stevenson is the Big 12 Conference leader in 3-point field goal percentage at 52.2 percent (12-of-23). Stevenson broke out with a 4-for-4 3-point effort to spark the Sooners in a victory against Mississippi State and hasn t looked back since. The Little Rock, Ark., native averages 8.1 points per game, fourth best on the team and best by a reserve. She has the OU s leading off-the-bench scorer in seven games.

Paris passed Caton Hill ( ), who amassed a career total of 1,653. Next on the list is Stacey Dales ( ) with 1,920 points. Given her current rate, Paris should pass Dales in eight games, the Jan. 30 home contest versus Kansas. Phylesha Whaley ( ), who played 116 games, is the OU career scoring leader with 2,187 points. Should OU once again make a run through the Big 12 Conference Tournament and NCAA Tournament, Paris could pass that mark by the end of the season. Should Paris finish her career with her current scoring average of 21.9 points, she will destroy the previous record of 18.9 held by Whaley. BLOCK PARTY Courtney Paris passed LaNae Jones ( ) as OU s career blocks leader during the Nov. 27 games versus North Texas. Paris entered the contest two blocks from Jones record of 243 and counted five in the game to move past to 246. Paris, who has OU s single-season record with 119 blocks as a freshman (and is No. 2 on the single-season list with 111 blocks as a sophomore) currently has 262 career blocks. She and Jones are the only two Sooners ever to record 100 blocks. With a rate of 3.3 blocks per game and at least 45 games left in her career, Paris could break 400 career blocks by the time she leaves the college game. TCU s Sandra Irvin ( ) has the NCAA record for career blocks with 480 in 127 games (3.78 per game). Courtney Paris 2007 AP National Player of the Year 1,500 1, Courtney Paris is the only player in Big 12 and Oklahoma history to accumulate 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 blocks and 100 assists in a career. 79 Games, 76 Double-Doubles Courtney Paris has collected 76 double-doubles in 79 career games. She has an active streak of 71 consecutive games with a double-double. The streak began with a 22-point, 24-rebound effort versus UCLA on Dec. 5, 2007, and will be 755 days old when OU meets South Carolina on Dec. 30, Happy Birthday, Record Paris double-double streak was born with a 22-point, 24-rebound effort against UCLA on Dec. 5, The streak celebrated its second birthday Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, as Oklahoma defeated Illinois. 8 Paris a Preseason Wooden Award Candidate Courtney Paris was named one of 30 preseason candidates for the Women s Wooden Award announced by the John R. Wooden Award committee Wednesday, Oct. 31. Paris, a two-time Wooden All-American, was also a preseason nominee last year and was one of 16 finalists for the 2007 Women s Wooden Award. Tennessee s Candace Parker was the 2007 recipient of the honor. The award is named for the three-time college basketball All-American, 1932 National Player of the Year and 10-time national championship coach John Wooden. Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. It is bestowed upon the nation s best player at an institution of higher education who has proven to his or her university that he or she is making progress toward graduation and maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Paris and Team USA Qualify for Olympics Courtney Paris missed 30 days of the Sooners preseason training...and head coach Sherri Coale probably couldn t have been more pleased with the result. Courtney Paris, one of two collegians playing for the USA Basketball Women s Senior National Team, swept through the FIBA Americas Zone Tournament in Valdivia, Chile, winning the gold medal against Cuba on Sept. 30 and, more importantly, clinching a berth for the United States in next year s Olympic Games. Paris was a role-player for the U.S., as one of very few post players her size in international basketball. She averaged nine minutes per game as the Americans went through the tournament undefeated at 5-0. It was Paris seventh gold medal as part of a USA Basketball team. Paris and U21 Team win World Championship Paris earned twice as much gold this summer as she helped the USA Basketball Women s Under 21 Team to a World Championship title in July. The U.S. defeated Australia, 96-73, in the title game in Moscow, Russia, to give Paris and Team USA its fourth straight gold in age-group basketball. Red Bests White in Intrasquad Scrimmage The University of Oklahoma women s basketball team completed its intrasquad scrimmage Thursday night at the Lloyd Noble Center in front of 2,200 fans. Players split time between Red and White teams as they played four eight-minute quarters. The Red defeated White in three quarters and won the overall battle with a total score of Each period was intense and down to the wire as the largest margin of victory in any quarter was four points. White got the best of Red in the first, 21-17, but Red bounced back with victories in the final three quarters (25-22 in the second, in the third and in the fourth.) Courtney Paris led the Sooners with 27 total points. She shot 9-of-16 (.563) from the field and added nine points at the free throw line. Paris missed a double-double by one rebound, but made contributions elsewhere with four assists and a steal in 27 minutes on the court. Nyeshia Stevenson scored 26 points and added three steals and two assists to her stat line as she took full advantage of her athletic ability in several fast breaks and one-on-one situations.
