It is the program s 15th appearance in the last 16 seasons. The Tigers won their 16th consecutive opening round game dating back to the 1997 season by defeating Georgia Tech LSU moved on to the Sweet Sixteen by upsetting No. seed West Virginia in Baton Rouge led by sophomore Danielle Ballard with points, 15 rebounds, six assists and two steals. LSU finished the regular season with a 19-1 overall record, while remaining ranked in the Top 5 poll for most of the season. The Tigers earned a win over Tennessee on their home court on Jan., their only win over a ranked opponent during the regular season. Senior Theresa Plaisance was named an All-SEC First Team member for the second year in a row. The Tigers are led in scoring and rebounding by Plaisance with 15.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Senior Jeanne Kenney is second in scoring with 11.3 points per game. Ballard and freshman Raigyne Moncrief round out the top scorers with 10. and 10.1 points per game respectively. The Lady Vols earned an automatic bid winning the SEC Tournament by defeating Kentucky in the finals. Tennessee defeated Northwestern State in the first round and moved past St. John s 67-51, earning a trip to the Sweet Sixteen to face Maryland. With the wins in the first two rounds, Tennessee improves upon their record for the most wins in NCAA Tournament history at The Lady Vols are led in scoring by senior Meighan Simmons with 16.1 points per game. Junior Isabelle Harrison is second on the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game, while leading the team on the glass with 9.3 rebounds per game. Rounding out the double figure scorers is junior Ariel Massengale with 1.5 points per game. THE SERIES VS. TENNESSEE Tennessee leads the all-time series against Louisville -1. The Lady Vols won the first two meetings, but the Cardinals got a victory last season knocking Tennessee out of the NCAA Tournament in the Elite Eight. AT THE HELM Holly Warlick is in her second season as head coach of Tennessee, spending the previous 7 years as an assistant coach under Hall of Fame coach Pat Summitt. She has a record in her two seasons at the helm. Warlick has led the Lady Vols to the NCAA Tournament both seasons, including a run to the Elite Eight last year. Warlick played for Tennessee from and was named a three-time All-American, as well as being named to the U.S. Olympic team in 1980.

The Cards were a three seed in the 009 tournament as well. For the first time in school history the Cardinals are hosting an NCAA Regional site. Louisville is one of three schools playing on their home court at a Regional site. Notre Dame and Stanford also advanced to the regionals. The Cardinals have faced seven teams that made the NCAA Tournament field. Louisville is 5-4 against those teams, but three losses are at the hands of the No. 1 overall seed Connecticut. Angel McCoughtry holds the record with 35 points against North Carolina in 008. Current senior Shoni Schimmel scored 33 points against Xavier in the 011 tournament. Head Coach Jeff Walz has guided Louisville to a 17-5 record in the NCAA Tournament. Walz owns a 6-0 record in SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS Maryland earned an at-large bid to the tournament after falling to the University of North Carolina in the ACC Quarterfinals. It is making its nd tournament appearance and its 10th in the last 11 years. Its most recent NCAA appearance was in the Sweet Sixteen of the 013 tournament against Connecticut, a loss. Key wins for the Terrapins include Florida State, North Carolina, and Texas. Their record against current RPI Top 50 is 7-6. Maryland is led by three-time All-American Alyssa Thomas who was named ACC Player of the Year for the third year and a member of the WBCA All-Region Team for the third straight year. Thomas is shooting over 51 percent on the season and averaging 18.6 points per game. Freshman Lexie Brown was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team by averaging 9.7 points per game and shooting 43.9 percent from the field. Senior center Alicia DeVaughn held steady in the paint, shooting 57.6 percent on the season and averaging 7.7 points per game. Redshirt senior Katie Rutan shot an impressive 43 percent from three-point range, while freshman Shatori Walker-Kimbrough averaged 9.7 points per game. The teams have four common opponents this season. Maryland is 1-0 vs. South Florida; 0-1 vs. Connecticut; 1-0 vs. Ohio; and 1-0 vs. Florida State. Louisville s 46 point victory (88-4) over Idaho marks the largest, while the 30 point win (83-53) over Iowa is the second. The previous high was 6 (80-54) against BYU during the 007 NCAA Tournament. Louisville's 88 points against Idaho ranks at the most points scored in a NCAA Tournament game by the Cardinals. The previous high was 86 scored against Tennessee in the 013 Regional Final. Junior Sara Hammond finished with 16 points against Idaho in the first round, the fourth time this season she has led the team in scoring in a game. Junior Jude Schimmel scored 14 points against Idaho in the first round, her fourth double figure scoring game this season and the first since scoring 14 against Ball State on Dec. 17 th. Schimmel recorded 10 points against Iowa in the second round. She is currently averaging 1 points and three steals per game during this year s NCAA Tournament. Senior Antonita Slaughter scored 17 points against Iowa in the second round on 5-6 shooting from 3-point range. EMMONNIE HENDERSON Freshman Emmonnie Henderson is the first freshman to debut with double digit rebounds finishing with 1 since Hammond, who recorded 13 rebounds in her debut against Missouri State on Nov. 13, 011. Henderson scored a career-high 19 points at Memphis. Henderson hit 9 of 14 from the field against the Tigers and pulled down seven rebounds. Henderson tied her then career-high of 14 points against Memphis, scoring in double digits for the fourth time this season and in back-to-back games for the first time in her career. WALZ NAMED TO U18 NATIONAL TEAM STAFF Louisville head coach Jeff Walz was named an assistant coach for the 014 USA Basketball Women's U18 National Team. Walz will assist head coach Dawn Staley, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and University of South Carolina head coach. Michigan's Kim Barnes-Arico will also join them on the sideline as an assistant. The trio will lead the USA at the 014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship (dates and site TBA), which will feature eight national teams from North, South and Central America and the Caribbean. The top four finishing teams will qualify for the 015 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women. SCHIMMEL ONE OF THE TOP SCORERS IN LOUISVILLE HISTORY Senior Shoni Schimmel became just the second player to score,000+ career points in program history. Schimmel scored her,000 career point against Houston on Feb. 19. She has now scored,14 career points and trails only Angel McCoughtry, who scored,779 points. Schimmel ranks fifth all-time in career scoring in Louisville basketball history, male or female. Along with McCoughtry, three male Cardinal basketball players scored,000+ points. She became just the sixth Cardinal to reach that milestone in her junior season, behind Janet McNew, Nell Knox, Kristin Mattox, Sara Nord and Monique Reid. Only three Cardinals have scored 1,000 career points in their sophomore seasons - Gwen Doyle, Jazz Covington and all-time scoring leader Angel McCoughtry. SLAUGHTER CLEARED TO RETURN TO THE COURT Louisville senior guard Antonita Slaughter has been cleared to play for the Cardinals this season. Following the events of Dec. 3, the treating physicians at Jewish Hospital referred Slaughter to the Mayo Clinic for further testing. Testing was completed this past week and all test results have come back within normal limits resulting in a clean bill of health for Slaughter and full medical clearance. Slaughter was sidelined initially because a blood clot was found in her lungs and the use of blood-thinners prevents an athlete from competition. The most recent scans taken at the Mayo Clinic were clean of the previously seen blood clot in her lung and no further treatment is needed, therefore clearing her to play. After her full evaluation, the treating physicians are confident in her clearance at this point. She has returned to team practices and will be able to return to games once deemed ready by the coaching staff. Slaughter was the fifth-leading scorer (9.3 points per game) and most consistent 3-point shooter, who played a key role in the Cardinals run to the 013 NCAA Tournament final. Slaughter started 30 of 38 games as a junior, averaging 10.1 points and 4.9 rebounds while leading the Cardinals at nearly 36 percent from beyond the arc. Slaughter tied a career best with seven 3-pointers in the stunning upset of top-ranked defending champ Baylor in the regional final. She was named to the Final Four All-Tournament team. HISTORY SELL OUTS Louisville played in front of two sold out crowds during the inaugural season at the KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville. Schimmel was one of the 10 players named a semifinalist. The American Athletic Conference leads all leagues with four representatives including UConn seniors Stefanie Dolson and Bria Hartley along with sophomore standout Breanna Stewart. This season Schimmel is leading the Cardinals in scoring with 17.0 points per game. She is also second for the Cardinals in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 37.0 percent. Schimmel averaged 7.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists for Louisville last week as the Cardinals improved to 8-0 in league play. She finished the week shooting 63.3 percent (19-for-30) from the field and 69.6 percent (16-for-3) from 3-point range. Against Houston, Schimmel scored 5 points while going 7 of 11 from behind the 3-point line. She also pulled down a season-high eight rebounds and dished out five assists. JUDE SCHIMMEL A GOOD WORKS TEAM NOMINEE Junior guard Jude Schimmel was nominated for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Allstate Good Works Team. The award recognizes a select group of college basketball student-athletes who have made significant contributions to the greater good of their communities through volunteerism and civic service. In its second year, the Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams honor players at all levels of college basketball who represent the sport's finest in the areas of leadership and charitable achievements amongst their

The recruiting class is ranked as high as No. 3 in the country. Sydney Brackemyre, 6-0, Wing, Harveysburg, Ohio (Clinton- Massie School) Brackemyre is ranked No. 36 by Hoopgurlz and is considered one of the top prospects in the state of Ohio. As a sophomore, she was a Division II honorable mention All-State selection when she averaged 17.7 points and 9.1 rebounds. She was also a Cincinnati Enquirer Divisions II-IV all-area selection. Arica Carter, 5-8, Guard, Long Beach, Calif. (Long Beach Polytechnic HS) Carter is ranked as the No. 78 prospect by Hoopgurlz. As a junior, Carter led Poly in scoring at 11 points, 3.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds, while also helping the Jackrabbits to its fifth CIF State Division 1 championship in the last eight years. LOUISVILLE AWARDED 014 NCAA REGIONAL SITE University of Louisville will serve as the host institution of a regional site for the 014 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship to be played March 9 and April 1, 014 at the KFC Yum! Center. The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee announced the first- and secondround and regional sites for the 014 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship. This will be the first time Louisville has hosted an NCAA Women's Basketball Regional. U of L has hosted the firstand second-rounds in 013 at the KFC Yum! Center and in 010 at Freedom Hall. U of L and the KFC Yum! Center served as the host for the 013 NCAA Women's Tournament first and second rounds and the 01 Men's Basketball Championship for the secondand third-rounds.
