Steve Lutz and Chris Beard worked together for a year at Incarnate Word in San Antonio during the season. Lutz was an assistant coach, while Beard was a grad assistant. Carsen Edwards hails from Atascocita, Texas. The Red Raiders have eight players from the state of Texas on its roster. Edwards played against Texas Tech star Keenan Evans in high school and knows Zhaire Smith off the court. Chris Beard was Little Rock s coach in 2016, when the Trojans upset the fifth-seeded Boilermakers in double overtime in Denver. Much like the Cal State Fullerton game, Associate Athletics Communications Director Chris Forman also applied for a job at Texas Tech, but did not receive an offer in He also is not bitter about not being offered the job, just like the Cal State Fullerton gig. Purdue s Footprints Purdue footprints are being littered all over the Sweet 16, not just by these Boilermakers, but also from other teams. Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber was an assistant coach at Purdue under Gene Keady from Coach Keady will be in attendance in Boston this week, while Weber has guided the Wildcats to the Sweet 16. Matt Painter replaced Bruce Weber at Southern Illinois for the season after Weber left to the take the Illinois job. Nevada s Kendall Stephens transferred from Purdue following his junior year. Stephens ranks 10th on the Purdue career 3-pointers made list (175). Florida State sophomore guard C.J. Walker decommitted from Purdue prior to his senior season at Indianapolis Tech High School. The decommitment paved the way for Purdue to sign All-American Carsen Edwards. Miscellaneous Tournament Notes Purdue owns a 2-0 record in games played in Massachusetts during the NCAA Tournament, advancing out of the TD Garden in 1999 with wins over No. 7 seed Texas and No. 2 seed Miami. This will be Purdue s first appearance in Massachusetts since that 1999 NCAA Tournament.

He is now having the best season of his career in New Orleans, averaging 12.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 41.7 percent from long distance, having made 254 triples in 70 games. His father s nickname is PeeWee, so P.J. is for PeeWee Junior. #12 Vincent Edwards (6-8 / 225 / Sr. / Middletown, Ohio) Has a three-year old son, Trace, that he plays for and has his initials on his tights. Overcoming a sprained ankle suffered Feb. 17, but is now 100 percent. 2nd all-time leading scorer at Middletown, behind Jerry Lucas. Father, Bill, is Wright State s all-time leading scorer (2,303 points). #14 Ryan Cline (6-6 / 195 / Jr. / Carmel, Ind.) An elite shooter, Cline has developed his game into more than a shooter. Helped Carmel High School to an Indiana State title and he won the National High School 3-point Championship. Second in Mr. Basketball to former Purdue great and Portland Trail Blazer Caleb Swanigan. An outstanding golfer, his father, Mike (who played hoops at Ohio State), is a several-time club champion at Crooked Stick Golf Club. #20 Nojel Eastern (6-6 / 220 / Fr. / Evanston, Ill.) A physical specimen, Eastern is a matchup nightmare. Can guard positions 1 through 4 on defense and uses his frame well on offense. Also one of the fastest and most athletic players on the team. #24 Grady Eifert (6-6 / 220 / Jr. / Fort Wayne, Ind.) A walkon that has earned big minutes through his effort. Has a sister, Erin, with a severe case of epilepsy and his goal is to create a foundation to support her. Purdue fans raised $20,000 in three days to help Erin receive a seizure service dog.
