KEY STORYLINES Xavier, a 2017 NCAA Elite Eight team, has secured its fifth straight NCAA Tournament berth and its 12th in the last 13 years; only eight schools have been to at least 12 of the last 13 NCAA Tournaments. Xavier is a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. XU's previous high was a No. 2 seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Xavier is one of six (out of 10 teams) in the BIG EAST Conference to make the 2018 NCAA Tournament field. Seven of 10 made the 2017 field. Xavier ninth-year head coach Chris Mack has led XU to eight NCAA Tournaments in nine years, including four Sweet 16 appearances. XU made the 2017 Elite Eight. Mack, the 2018 BIG EAST Coach of the Year, is XU's all-time wins leader at Xavier, 28-5 overall, won its first BIG EAST Conference Regular Season Championship with a 15-3 record. XU is two wins shy of the school record (30 in ). Xavier senior National Player of the Year candidate Trevon Bluiett, who was named Second Team All-American by the USBWA, Sporting News, USA Today, NBC Sports and NCAA.com, is on the final five list for the Julius Erving Award. Xavier's Trevon Bluiett is sixth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 19.5 ppg. He has scored 2,227 points (second on XU's all-time scoring list). His 315 career 3-pointers set a new school record and his 101 this season are just three shy of the XU record. Xavier's Trevon Bluiett, a three-time All-BIG EAST Tournament and three-time All-BIG EAST First Team member, is one of only 13 players in BIG EAST history to be named to the First Team three times. Xavier senior J.P. Macura is 20th on XU s all-time scoring list with 1,445 points. Xavier sophomore Quentin Goodin is third in the BIG EAST in assists at 4.9 apg. and assist/turnover ratio at Xavier has graduated 105 straight men's basketball seniors dating back to the school year. 4 THE XAVIER-TEXAS SOUTHERN SERIES: This is the first meeting. HIGHEST SEED EVER: Xavier is a No. 1 NCAA Tournament seed for the first time in school history in the NCAA Tournament. Xavier s No. 2 seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament was the previous highest seed in program history. Xavier was a No. 3 seed in the 2003 and 2008 NCAA Tournaments. Xavier won one game and reached the second round in 2003 and 2016 and made it to the Elite Eight in NCAA TOURNAMENT ELITE COMPANY: Xavier has made 12 of the last 13 NCAA Tournaments and 16 of the last 18. Only eight schools have been to at least 12 NCAA Tournaments in the last 13 years: Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga and Michigan State are at 13, while Xavier, North Carolina, Villanova and Wisconsin are at 12. SWEET SUCCESS IN THE NCAA TOURNA- MENT: Xavier has reached at least the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 six times in the last 10 tournaments (since 2008), including 2017, 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009 and XU advanced to the Elite Eight in 2008 and Only eight teams have made at least six Sweet 16s since 2008: Kansas (7), North Carolina (7), Michigan State (7), Wisconsin (7), Xavier (6), Duke (6), Arizona (6) and Kentucky (6). Xavier is making its 28th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2018, which includes 18 at-large berths, six automatic berths through the MCC and four automatic berths in the Atlantic 10. KEY PLAYERS ARE BACK FROM 2017 NCAA ELITE EIGHT TEAM: Xavier returns its top three scorers from last season's NCAA Tournament Elite Eight run: seniors Trevon Bluiett (21.3 ppg.), J.P. Macura (13.0 ppg.) and Sean O'Mara (10.5 ppg.). Xavier has four starters back from that 2017 NCAA team, including Bluiett and Macura and sophomores Tyrique Jones and Quentin Goodin. Junior Kaiser Gates posted twodouble-figure scoring games in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Bluiett and Macura both earned spots on the 2017 NCAA Tournament All-West Regional Team for their efforts in Xavier's four NCAA Tournament games. XAVIER'S 2017 ROAD TO THE ELITE EIGHT: Xavier made the 2017 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, defeating No. 6 seed and Big Ten runner-up Maryland 76-65, No. 3 seed and ACC runner-up Florida State and No. 2 seed and Pac-12 Champion Arizona to reach the West Regional Final. BIG EAST CONFERENCE COACH OF THE YEAR IS XAVIER'S ALL-TIME WINS LEADER: Xavier ninth-year head coach Chris Mack, the 2018 BIG EAST Conference Coach of the Year and a candidate for National Coach of the Year honors, is Xavier's alltime wins leader at (.690). Mack, a 1992 Xavier graduate, is one of only three active coaches in NCAA Division I that are the school's all-time wins leader and an alum of that school along with Jim Boeheim (Syracuse) and Scott Cross (UT Arlington). Mack has led XU to more NCAA Tournament appearances (8) and NCAA Tournament wins (10) than any XU head coach and is the first to lead XU to four Sweet 16s (2010, 2012, 2015 and 2017). BIG EAST IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT... SIX NCAA BERTHS IN 2018: The BIG EAST Conference has earned 28 NCAA Tournament berths in its first five years in the current 10-team configuration, including six this year. The BIG EAST had seven in 2017, five in 2016, six in 2015 and four in Nine of the 10 schools in the BIG EAST have earned at least one NCAA berth in the past five seasons: Xavier (5), Villanova (5), Providence (5), Butler (4), Seton Hall (3), Creighton (3), Georgetown (1), St. John s (1) and Marquette (1). XAVIER VS. THE NCAA FIELD: Xavier recorded a 9-5 record vs. the 2018 NCAA Tournament field, including Butler (2-0), Creighton (2-0), Seton Hall (2-0), Cincinnati (1-0), Marshall (1-0), Arizona State (0-1), Providence (1-2) and Villanova (0-2). FOR THE RECORD (XAVIER): Xavier, 28-5 overall and ranked No. 3 in the final AP Poll and No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, won the BIG EAST Conference Regular Season Championship at Xavier swept regular season home-and-home series with Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Seton Hall and St. John's. CLOSE CALLS: Xavier is 15-2 in games decided by 10 points or less, including 5-1 in games decided by less than five points and 2-1 in overtime games. Xavier is coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to Providence in a BIG EAST Tournament Semifinal on March 9. Xavier won at Butler in overtime on Feb. 6 as senior Trevon Bluiett scored 26 points, including 11 points in the final nine minutes of regulation and six in overtime. XU recorded a overtime victory over Georgetown on Feb. 3 at Cintas Center. Bluiett scored 31 points, including a four-point play (3-pointer plus a free throw) with 24 seconds left in regulation that helped force overtime. XU won at Creighton on Feb. 10, Sophomore Quentin Goodin, who finished with 17 points in Omaha, calmly sank the two game-winning free throws with 0.3 seconds left to secure the win. XAVIER IN THE POLLS: Xavier is a schoolrecord No. 3 in the final Associated Press Poll, XU's highest finish ever in the AP final poll. CLOSING IN ON THE XAVIER WINS RECORDS: Xavier, 28-5, secured its fifth straight 20-win season, its 12th 20-win season in the last 13 years and its 20th 20-win season in the last 22 years. The 28 wins are two wins shy of the team that owns the school record, finishing 30-7 overall and reaching the 2008 NCAA Elite Eight. The 27 regular season wins broke the school record for regular season victories.

5 ALL-AMERICAN AND NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE: Xavier senior guard and National Player of the Year candidate Trevon Bluiett was named 2018 Second Team All-American by the USBWA (United States Basketball Writers Association), Sporting News, USA Today, NBC Sports and NCAA.com. Bluiett, one of the 10 national semifinalists competing for the Citizen Naismith Trophy for Men's College Player of the Year, also earned a spot on the 15-person national ballot for the John R. 6 XAVIER LEADERSHIP: Senior National Player of the Year candidate and All-American Trevon Bluiett leads the team and is sixth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 19.5 ppg. Bluiett also leads the team in rebounding at 5.7 rpg. (14th in the BIG EAST). Bluiett is fourth in the BIG EAST in free-throw shooting at 86.1 percent and has hit 31 of his last 32 free-throw attempts. TREVON BLUIETT EARNS FIRST TEAM ALL- BIG EAST AND ALL-BIG EAST TOURNA- MENT FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR: National Player of the Year candidate and senior guard Trevon Bluiett has been named to the BIG EAST Conference First Team for the third straight year and was named this past weekend to the All-BIG EAST Tournament Team for a third straight year. Bluiett, a unanimous First Team selection by the league coaches, is one of only 13 players in league history to earn BIG EAST First Team honors three times. Bluiett was also named to the First Team as a sophomore and a junior. CLOSING IN ON SEA- SON RECORD: Senior Trevon Bluiett, who is third in the BIG EAST in 3-point field goals per game at 3.1, hit 8-of-11 3-pointers vs. Seton Hall on Feb. 14. The eight 3-pointers are just one shy of the singlegame school record that Bluiett shares with Romain Sato. Bluiett has raised his career total to a school-record 315. Bluiett has hit pointers this season, which is tied for second in XU history with Lionel Chalmers (101 in ) and only three behind XU single-season record holder Lenny Brown (104 in ). Bluiett's 134 career starts are a school record. Bluiett, Macura and fellow fouryear Musketeer Sean O'Mara have won 103 games so far at Xavier, including six NCAA Tournament games. NATION'S NO. 2 SCORING DUO: Senior guards Trevon Bluiett and J.P. Macura, who both were named to the 2017 NCAA All-West Regional Team, have combined for 3,672 points in their careers so far. Macura scored 27 points at Seton Hall on Jan. 20, 20 points at Wisconsin on Nov. 16, 20 points and four assists vs. Butler on Jan. 2 and 19 points to go with six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and four steals vs. DePaul on Dec. 30. He had a game-high tying 19-point effort in the win over Baylor on Nov. 28. That followed a 23-point game vs. Arizona State on Nov. 24. GOODIN IS COMING ON STRONG: Sophomore guard Quentin Goodin scored 18 points (one shy of his career high) on 7-of-10 shooting to go with four assists in the Providence win on Feb. 28. That came on the heels of a career-high 19 points, including 16 in the second half, to go with four rebounds and three assists at Georgetown on Feb. 21. Goodin hit all five of his shots from the field, including three 3-pointers, at GU. Goodin has recorded 17 double-figure scoring games for the season compared with six for his freshman season. Goodin posted a 17-point game at Creighton on Feb. 10 that included the game-winning free throws with 0.3 seconds left. Goodin has averaged 11.3 ppg. over the last 12 games, while shooting 51.6 percent (47-of-91) from the field, including 42.9 percent (15-of-35) from 3-point range. Goodin hit 3-of-26 (.115) from 3-point range for the first 21 games. Goodin scored a team-high 15 points in the Marquette win on Jan. 24, including hitting 3-of-3 3-pointers, to go with five assists. GOODIN'S PASSING FANCY: Sophomore guard Quentin Goodin, who dished off a career-high 12 assists to go with 10 points vs. Villanova on Feb. 17, is third in the BIG EAST Conference in assists at 4.9 apg. and third in the BIG EAST Conference in assistto-turnover ratio at Goodin, who had 10 points and five assists at Marquette on Dec. 27, dished off nine assists to go with zero turnovers in the win over Baylor on Nov. 28. Goodin tied the Xavier record for most assists in an NCAA Tournament game with nine in the 2017 NCAA First Round win over Maryland. GATES HAS PROVIDED A BOOST: Junior forward Kaiser Gates, who contributed a 16-point game vs. St. John's in the BIG EAST Tournament on 6-of-7 shooting (4-of- 5 3-pointers), has 11 double-figure scoring games this season compared with only six double-figure scoring games in 33 games as a sophomore. Gates, who started 17 of the first 18 games this season, came off the bench for the first time this season on Jan. 13 vs. Creighton and contributed 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with eight rebounds and two steals and followed that up with 11 points, including 3-of-3 3-point shooting, vs. St. John's on Jan. 17. Gates scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Butler win on Jan. 2. Gates grabbed a team-high and career-high tying 10 rebounds vs. Georgetown on Feb. 3 and a career-high tying 10 rebounds against Cincinnati on Dec. 2 to go with 10 points, recording his first career double-double. He had a career-high 19-point game vs. Baylor on Nov. 28 on the strength of a career-high five 3-pointers. Gates is second on the team in 3-point shooting percentage at 38.1 percent and second on the team in 3-point field goals per game at 1.7. Gates is second on the team and 26th in the BIG EAST in rebounding at 4.6 rpg. KANTER IS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR: Xavier graduate transfer forward Kerem Kanter scored in double figures in 14 games versus BIG EAST opponents, including 12 vs. St. John's and 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting vs. Providence in the BIG EAST Tournament. Kanter has posted 20 double-figure scoring games overall for the season. Kanter, who has started 14 games, is second in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage at 57.3 percent. Kanter scored 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting vs. Butler on Feb. 6 and 22 points with a Xavier careerhigh tying 13 rebounds vs. St. John's on Jan. 17 at Cintas Center. Kanter scored a game-high and collegiate career-high 24 points at Providence on Jan. 6, including 19 in the second half. Kanter, who hit 10-of- 15 field goal attempts at PC, also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to lock up a double-double. Kanter, who is fourth on the team in rebounding for the season at 4.5 rpg. (29th in the BIG EAST), followed up the Providence effort with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting at Villanova on Jan. 10 and 12 points and eight rebounds in a starting role vs. Creighton on Jan. 13. Kanter had 16 points and an XU careerhigh 13 rebounds vs. Marshall on Dec. 19. He had 17 points vs. Cincinnati on Dec. 2. O'MARA SHOWING LEADERSHIP: Graduate forward Sean O'Mara posted a 10-point, six-rebound, four-assist, twosteal game vs. Providence on Feb. 28. O'Mara hit 5-of-5 from the field en route to a season-high tying 14 points with five rebounds at Butler on Feb. 6 and followed that up with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting at Creighton on Feb. 10. O'Mara scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting in the meeting vs. Creighton at XU on Jan. 13 to go with four rebounds and three assists. O'Mara posted 10 points vs. Butler on Jan. 2 to go with six rebounds, three assists and a career-high four blocks. O'Mara has

O'Mara had eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks in the ETSU win on Dec. 16. O'Mara has scored in double figures in 10 games, including a season-high 14 points on 5-of- 6 shooting vs. Kent State on Dec. 6. KEEPING UP WITH JONES: Sophomore forward Tyrique Jones, who has started 19 games, sat out two games (at Butler on Feb. 6 and at Creighton on Feb. 10) due to an injury but returned to action vs. Seton Hall on Feb. 14 and contributed nine points and two rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench. Jones scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Georgetown win on Feb. 3, his first double-figure scoring game since Jan. 6 at Providence where he scored 12 points to go with seven rebounds. He had 12 points at Marquette on Dec. 27, while hitting 5-of-6 from the field. Jones has scored in double figures in nine games; by comparison, he had only four double-figure scoring efforts in 37 games played as a freshman. Jones posted the first double-double of his collegiate career with 14 points and a career-high tying 11 rebounds vs. Marshall on Dec. 19. Jones had back-to-back double-figure scoring games with 11 points vs. Colorado on Dec. 9 and 13 points in the win over Kent State on Dec. 9 on 6-of-6 shooting from the field. Jones is third on the team in rebounding at 4.5 rpg. (28th in the BIG EAST), including his career-high tying 11-rebound games vs. Marshall on Dec. 19 and George Washington on Nov. 23. He is shooting 62.5 percent from the field. He scored a career-high 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting vs. Rider on Nov. 13. MARSHALL WAS A UNANIMOUS BIG EAST ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM SELECTION: Forward Naji Marshall was a unanimous selection by the league coaches to the BIG EAST Conference All-Freshman Team. Marshall is the third Musketeer all-time to earn a spot on the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team. Trevon Bluiett earned a spot on the Team and Edmond Sumner earned a spot on the Team. FRESHMAN EARNED BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS FOUR TIMES: Freshman forward Naji Marshall was named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week for the second straight week and the fourth time in seven weeks on Feb. 26 after contributing a team-high and career-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-3 3-pointers, to go with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals at Georgetown on Feb. 21. Marshall also won the award on Feb. 19 after averaging 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists for Xavier s games last week vs. Seton Hall and Villanova. Marshall scored 20 points to go with six rebounds in the win over Seton Hall on Feb. 14 and grabbed eight rebounds to go with 11 points in the Villanova game on Feb. 17. Marshall won the award twice in the month of January, including on Jan. 29 after contributing 10 points, three rebounds and four assists to Xavier's win over Marquette on Jan. 24. Marshall was also named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week on Jan. 15 after averaging 11.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for Xavier's two games the previous week, at Villanova on Jan. 10 and vs. Creighton on Jan. 13. Marshall had 10 points vs. Creighton on Jan. 13 after a 13-point game at Villanova (all of which came in the second half). MARSHALLING IN A NEW ERA: Freshman forward Naji Marshall, who had an 11- rebound game at DePaul on March 3 and a career-high 12-rebound game vs. Providence in the BIG EAST Tournament on March 9, has averaged 9.8 ppg. and 7.4 rpg. over the last nine games. Marshall collected a team-high and career-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 2-of- 3 3-pointers, to go with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals at Georgetown on Feb. 21. Marshall recorded a 20-point game vs. Seton Hall on Feb. 14 where he hit 7-of-11 from the field to go with six rebounds. Marshall came up big in the win at Butler on Feb. 6 with 15 points, hitting 4-of-5 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line to go with six rebounds. Six of his 15 points came in overtime, including a big 3-pointer to start Xavier's scoring. Marshall, who has 12 double-figure scoring games this season, posted an 11-point game at Marquette on Dec. 27. Marshall had a 15-point game vs. East Tennessee State on Dec. 16 where he hit 5-of-6 from the field to go with five rebounds and two assists. Marshall contributed 10 points and four rebounds in 12 minutes of action vs. Baylor on Nov. 28. STREAKING: Xavier, which had a ninegame winning streak snapped on Feb. 17, had a 10-game winning streak snapped on Jan. 6. The 10-game win streak was XU's second-longest win streak under ninthyear head coach Chris Mack. Xavier won 12 straight to start the season. ROAD WARRIORS: Xavier, 10-2 in road games this season, won its seventh straight road game with its win over St. John's on March 8 at Madison Square Garden. Xavier won at DePaul on March 3 and won at Georgetown on Feb. 21, 89-77, as freshman Naji Marshall scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field to go with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. XU won at Creighton on Feb. 10, Sophomore Quentin Goodin, who finished with 17 points in Omaha, calmly sank the two game-winning free throws with 0.3 seconds left to secure the win. XU won in overtime, 98-93, at Butler on Feb. 6, won at St. John's on Jan. 30 and at Seton Hall on Jan. 20. XAVIER HIT THE CENTURY MARK VS. SETON HALL: Xavier earned a victory over Seton Hall on Feb. 14 at Cintas Center, XU's first 100-point game ever in a BIG EAST game. Senior Trevon Bluiett hit 8-of-11 from 3-point range (one shy of the XU single-game 3-point field goal record that Bluiett shares with Romain Sato) and 13-of-13 from the free-throw line on his way to 37 points. NON-CONFERENCE SEASON INCLUDED A DECISIVE WIN IN THE ANNUAL CROSS- TOWN SHOOTOUT: Xavier, 12-1 in the non-conference portion of its regular season schedule, had an win over then- No. 11 Cincinnati on Dec. 2. Xavier has now won four of the last five meetings with UC and eight of the last 11. XU jumped out to a 21-5 lead and was never seriously threatened. ENTIRE SEASON SOLD OUT: Xavier has sold out 167 games at Cintas Center since it opened for the season, including a school record 18 sellouts this season in 18 games. 9 ATTENDANCE RECORD FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON: Xavier averaged a school-record 10,475 fans for its 18 home games this season and welcomed a school-record 188,554 fans. This marks the third straight year that Xavier has broken school attendance records. Xavier averaged a then school-record 10,282 fans last season for 16 home games. BIG EAST GAMES WERE AN EVEN TOUGH- ER TICKET: 16 of the top 20 all-time singlegame attendance totals in Cintas Center history were BIG EAST games. All nine BIG EAST rivals are represented on this top 20 list (Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's and Villanova). CONSISTENT CONFERENCE SUCCESS: Xavier, 15-3 and winner of the BIG EAST Conference Regular Season Championship, has recorded 36 straight seasons at.500 or better in conference play (MCC, Atlantic 10 and BIG EAST). No other school in NCAA Division I has an active streak of more than 31 years. Xavier's last conference regular season title prior to this year was in 2011 when XU finished 15-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. BASKETBALL TIMES HONORS XAVIER PROGRAM AGAIN IN 2017: The Xavier men's basketball program is tied with Florida for 15th in the new Basketball Times rankings of the best NCAA men's basketball programs. Every five years since 1997, Basketball Times has evaluated the best of the best NCAA programs with rankings that are based on five categories: winning percentage, NBA players, federal graduation rate, U.S. News and World Report academic reputation and program cleanliness. Xavier was ranked 21st in the last rankings back in XAVIER ADDED A FOURTH MEMBER TO THE RECRUITING CLASS: Head coach Chris Mack received a signed scholarship agreement from Evan Boudreaux, a 6-8, 220-pound forward from Lake Forest, Ill., who enjoyed two All-Ivy League seasons at Dartmouth before sitting out this season to concentrate on academics. Boudreaux is scheduled to graduate from Dartmouth in the spring and will have two years of eligibility at Xavier. Boudreaux led the Ivy League in rebounding as a sophomore at 9.5 rpg. and was second in scoring at 17.5 ppg. The Atlanta Tipoff Club named Mack as one of the 10 national semifinalists for the 2018 Werner Ladder Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year. Macura averaged 13.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, earning a spot on the NCAA All-West Regional Team. XAVIER... AN NCAA TRADITION Xavier has made 12 of the last 13 NCAA Tournaments and 16 of the last 18. Only eight schools have been to at least 12 NCAA Tournaments in the last 13 years: Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga and Michigan State are at 13, while Xavier, North Carolina, Villanova and Wisconsin are at 12. Xavier is making its 28th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2018, which includes 18 at-large berths (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2003, 2001, 1997, 1995, 1993, 1990 and 1961), six automatic berths through the MCC (1991, 1989, 1988, 1987, 1986 and 1983) and four automatic berths in the Atlantic 10 (2006, 2004, 2002 and 1998). Xavier s No. 2 seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament was the previous highest seed in program history. Xavier was a No. 3 seed in the 2003 and 2008 NCAA Tournaments. Xavier won one game and reached the second round in 2003 and 2016 and made it to the Elite Eight in ELITE AGAIN Xavier made its third NCAA Tournament Elite Eight in XU also made it in 2004 and Xavier is one of 21 schools that have been to two or more Elite Eights in the last 10 tournaments ( ) and one of 19 schools on the list that have been to three or more in the last 15 ( ). The Musketeers made the 2017 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight by defeating No. 6 seed and Big Ten runner-up Maryland, No. 3 seed and ACC runner-up Florida State and No. 2 seed and Pac-12 Champion Arizona to reach the West Regional Final. SWEET HISTORY CONTINUES Xavier has reached at least the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 six times in the last 10 tournaments (since 2008), including 2017, 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009 and XU advanced to the Elite Eight in 2008 and Only eight teams have made at least six Sweet 16s since 2008: Kansas (7), North Carolina (7), Michigan State (7), Wisconsin (7), Xavier (6), Duke (6), Arizona (6) and Kentucky (6). 53 David West, 2003 National Player of the Year and two-time NBA All-Star now playing for the Golden State Warriors, led XU to the NCAA Tournament in each of his final three seasons. TOURNAMENT TRADITION Xavier is making its 31st postseason appearance in the last 36 years ( ). That span includes 27 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 12 of the last 13 and 16 of the last 18 NCAA Tournaments. XU only made the NCAA Tournament field one time (1961) before the season. THE FIRST SWEET 16 SEASON The Musketeers had won another MCC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in the season. The best was yet to come. Xavier, which earned a 1990 NCAA Tournament seeding of sixth in the Midwest Region, returned to a familiar site for its NCAA action. XU returned to the Indiana Hoosier Dome, the same place where XU had grabbed national headlines in the 1987 NCAA Tourney. XU upset 14th-ranked Missouri, 70-69, in the first round of the 1987 NCAA Tourney and nearly upset Duke in the second round. Xavier s 1990 roster was loaded with six current or future 1,000 point-scorers, including Tyrone Hill, Derek Strong, Aaron Williams, Jamie Gladden, Michael Davenport and Jamal Walker. Hill, Strong and Williams went on to the NBA. XU s senior twin towers of Hill and Strong combined for 46 points and 25 rebounds as the Musketeers advanced to the second round with an win over the then-big Eight s Kansas State. The win over Kansas State put Xavier against Georgetown in the second round. XU jumped out to a 16-point halftime lead, 42-26, and held on for a thrilling win over Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo and the rest of head coach John Thompson s Hoyas. Strong had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Walker had 15 points and nine assists. The win advanced Xavier to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in the school s history. MEMORABLE REGIONAL SEMI Xavier lost in double overtime, , to Kansas State in a classic Regional Semifinal in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Xavier s Jordan Crawford earned a spot on the fivemember 2010 NCAA All-West Regional Team after averaging 29.0 ppg. for XU s three NCAA games, including wins over Minnesota and Pittsburgh to earn a third straight trip to at least the NCAA Sweet 16. ELITE NCAA TOURNAMENT SUCCESS IN 2004 AND 2008 The Musketeers went on and advanced to the Elite Eight in 2004 and It became known to Xavier fans as The Run in Xavier swept through the Atlantic 10 Tournament for a historic four wins in four days at the University of Dayton Arena, including an win over previously unbeaten and No. 1 Saint Joseph s in the second round. XU and SJU would both reach 2004 NCAA Regional Finals that season. Xavier entered the 2004 NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed. XU trailed No. 10 seed Louisville at halftime in Orlando, Fla., but dominated the second half on both ends of the court to record an victory, outscoring Louisville after intermission. XU beat No. 2 seed Mississippi State in the second round behind 31 points from senior Lionel Chalmers, earning its first spot in the Sweet 16 since This time Xavier made it past the Sweet 16 round. XU beat No. 3 seed Texas in the Regional Semifinals in Atlanta, Ga., behind 27 points from senior Romain Sato. Xavier drew No. 1 seed Duke in the Regional Final. XU led at halftime and led for most of the second half thanks in great part to a dominating effort from senior big man Anthony Myles, who scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 23 minutes of action. XU led with 12:27 left when Myles fouled out. Seniors Lionel Chalmers, Romain Sato and Anthony Myles earned spots on the fivemember 2004 NCAA Atlanta Regional All- Tournament Team. In 2008, Xavier made it back to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. Xavier senior Josh Duncan earned a spot on the five-member 2008 NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team, leading XU to wins over Georgia (73-61), Purdue (85-78) and West Virginia (79-75 in overtime) before losing to UCLA in the West Regional Final. Duncan scored a careerhigh 26 points in the win over West Virginia. Chris Mack has led Xavier back to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in his nine years as head coach. Mack has led Xavier to four Sweet 16 appearances, advancing to the Elite Eight in 2017.
