2 Washington Media Policies Interview Policy Contact the Athletic Communications Department at least 24 hours in advance for ALL interview requests. Coaches and players are typically available before and after practice on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of NCAA rules, which limit the time student-athletes can practice, it is imperative that media members wishing to interview players before practice be available before the scheduled practice start time. Practices will start on time, and players and coaches will not be interviewed once practice has begun. Student-athletes are not available for interviews on game day. Practice Practice is sometimes open to the media. Location will vary. Please call the Athletic Communications Department to confirm site and time. Credentials All single-game or season credential requests for Husky men s basketball should be directed to the UW Athletic Communications Department by phone or in writing. It is recommended that requests be made one week in advance of the game you wish to cover. If media are unable to pick up credentials prior to the game, they may be picked up at Will Call at at the arena. Will Call opens 90 minutes before tip-off. Parking For practice on campus, media parking is available in several locations, all within close proximity to the arena (E-8, E-11 and E-12). Lots E-11 and E-12 can be accessed through the main entrance to the Husky football stadium off Montlake Blvd. The E-8 lot is located behind the IMA building and can be accessed by taking the first entrance after Graves Building (travelling North on Montlake Blvd.). Telephones The Athletic Communications Department has limited telephone lines installed in the press seating area and workroom. If media members require dedicated telephone lines, please contact the University of Washington Telecommunications Department, (206) They will arrange to have phone lines installed at your expense. There are co-op phone lines available to Pac-10 visiting flagship radio stations. WIRELESS INTERNET Wireless internet access is available on gamedays inside Bank of America Arena. High-speed ethernet lines are also available in the media workroom. Internet We encourage media and fans to visit the University of Washington Athletics home page. The address is: Photographers Photo passes are available for accredited news media. Passes should be requested one week in advance of the game you wish to cover. If media are unable to pick up credentials prior to the game, they may be picked up at Will Call at Bank of America Arena. Will Call opens 90 minutes before tip-off. Photographers may work from the baselines, in accordance with NCAA rules. In no case may a photographer shoot from the sidelines or press row. No tripods are allowed. Passes and photo vests must be visible at all times. Failure to adhere to any regulations, or any interference with play, is reason for expulsion. Game Services Computerized play-by-play accounts for each half, and halftime and final statistics, will be distributed in the press seating area and the media work room. A light meal will be served prior to tip-off in the work room at the arena. Postgame Interviews Postgame interviews are conducted in the media interview room located in the northwest corner on the court level. Husky head coach Lorenzo Romar and requested players will be available to the media. Postgame interviews with visiting personnel will be arranged by the visiting SID. Postgame Work Areas The press seating area and the media work room (Room 145) will be available following each home game as work areas for media. Final statistics and play-by-play accounts will be available in both areas. Two telephones will be available for postgame filing in the press seating area. Statisticians Qualified statisticians are available through the Athletic Communications Department in advance of the game. Please provide three days notice. A minimum fee of $50 per statistician is recommended. Bank of America Arena Press Row There are two phone numbers for the Bank of America Arena press row: (206) and Pac-10 Coaches' Teleconference Each Tuesday morning throughout the season, the Pac-10 conducts a coaches teleconference. Call the Pac-10 office at (925) for details. A taped replay of the entire call is available later in the day, following the call. NCAA Guidelines and the Media Media members should be aware of several NCAA rules that apply to student-athletes. If there is ever a question if any media-related activity or event including a Washington student-athlete could be a possible NCAA violation, contact Sr. Associate AD For Compliance, John Morris, for an interpretation. Areas of concern include: Coaches and University officials cannot make comments on prospective student-athletes until they sign a national letter of intent. A coach cannot comment on a prospective student-athlete who verbally commits to an institution. Coaches and athletic staff are not permitted to write guest columns for publications. Do not ask student-athletes to list or endorse products. Photographers cannot provide student-athletes with photographs or slides. The Athletic Communications office offers a similar service for student-athletes to purchase photographs. Student-athletes may not be used in advertisements or endorsements of products, including media-related publications. Student-athletes are not permitted to conduct interviews for services. Establishing an Internet site in and of itself does not categorize an individual as a media entity. Therefore, individuals who establish Internet sites independent of the institution continue to be subject to all applicable restrictions related to contacting prospects for a recruiting purpose. 4 Bank of America Arena Opened: Facility Facts Capacity: 10,000 Location: Dimensions: Address: Originally opened as University of Washington Pavilion on Dec. 27, Cost was $600,000 for construction that began in Feb Renamed Hec Edmundson Pavilion on Jan. 16, The $40 million renovation began in March, Doors opened on Nov. 24, 2000 to Bank of America Arena at Edmundson Pavilion. Sits on the southeast section of the University of Washington campus surrounded by Lake Washington to the east and Montlake Boulevard to the west. Square feet (ground) 130,000. Length 240 feet x 385 feet Height 66 feet Bank of America Arena 3870 Montlake Boulevard N.E. Seattle, WA Ticket Office: (206) Facilities Office: (206) Huskies Call Renovated Dawghouse Home The Washington men s basketball team has played the last six seasons in the Dawghouse. After playing off campus in for the first full season ever, the Huskies returned to more familiar surroundings in Originally completed in 1927, the arena underwent a $40 million, 19-month renovation between March of 1999 and November of 2000 to reconfigure its interior. The pavilion s name was also renovated. The building is now called Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion thanks to a $9.1 million gift from Bank of America for naming rights and a 10-year corporate partnership. Despite a seating capacity increase from 7,900 to approximately 10,000, the arena is much more intimate than before. Gone are the infamous roof support pillars that obstructed views of the court. They were replaced by a pair of super-trusses that run the length of the building from east to west. Each supertruss is 245-feet long, 30-inches in diameter and weighs 460,000 pounds. The Pavilion s east end was converted into a practice court for basketball and volleyball. Adorning the west end of the Arena is the Founders Club and a new Hall of Fame museum that proudly displays Washington s outstanding athletic tradition. The expanded area offers much more public access to displays, trophies and historical information in addition to serving as a pregame and postgame reception area. While the renovation of the main arena is stunning, the improvements to the support areas greatly benefit Washington s overall program. They have dramatically increased the space of the sports medicine center facilities, equipment rooms, meeting rooms, media accommodations and locker rooms for many of the UW s teams, including football and men s and women s basketball. The renovation design of Hec Edmundson Pavilion started in the summer of Construction began in March of 1999 and was completed in November of During construction, the men s and women s basketball, volleyball and gymnastics teams each competed in alternate venues. The men s basketball team played its home games at KeyArena in downtown Seattle. Edmundson Pavilion is a monument to durability. The massive brick structure, with its signature Husky gargoyles on the west facade, is in its ninth decade of service. The Washington men s basketball team is competing in the building for the 80th season, a stretch that has allowed the UW men s team to compile more wins in the building (825) than any other team in the nation has won in its current arena. The Huskies have parlayed their return to campus into a return to their winning ways. UW registered a school-record 32-game winning streak from Jan. 29, 2004 to Dec. 29, 2005 season. The Huskies had a perfect 15-0 record at home in 2005 and were 17-2 last season. In its final four seasons before the renovation, Washington registered four straight 12-win seasons and a 48-9 record at home. The Arena renovation is just one of many improvements to the Washington athletic complex as part of the Campaign for the Student Athlete. The $70 million campaign s goal is to ensure national competitiveness for each of the program s 23 sports. The Campaign also helped build an indoor practice facility and the current renovation of the Connibear Shellhouse and student service center. Plans are in the works for complete stadiums for the baseball and soccer fields. PREVIEW COACHES PLAYERS OPPONENTS REVIEW RECORDS HISTORY EXPERIENCE HERITAGE
