The game between the Crusaders and the Black Knight can be seen live on the internet through the Patriot League Network. In addition, the contest will air live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester. Holy Cross enters the game with an overall record of and a 5-9 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders have lost five of their last seven games, and are coming off a setback at Lehigh on Monday night. Holy Cross is currently tied for eight place in the Patriot League with American. Junior guard Robert Champion leads the team by averaging 12.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Junior forward Malachi Alexander has also been playing well, with averages of 10.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest. Freshman forward Karl Charles has added 10.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game, while senior guard Cullen Hamilton is chipping in with 9.4 points and 2.7 boards per contest. Army West Point stands overall this season with a 6-8 mark against Patriot League opponents. The Black Knights have won two straight and three of their last four games, and are coming off a victory over American on Saturday. Senior forward Tanner Plomb leads the team by averaging 20.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while hitting 36.1 percent of his three-point field goal attempts (65 of 180). Senior guard Kyle Wilson has added 16.6 points and 2.4 boards per contest, while senior center Kevin Ferguson is averaging 12.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game. THE SERIES WITH ARMY: This will be the 82nd meeting between the Crusaders and the Black Knights on the hardwood, with Holy Cross leading the all-time series The Crusaders have won 24 out of the last 30 meetings in the series, although they hold just a 5-4 edge over the last nine games. For games played at West Point, the Crusaders hold a advantage, with 11 victories in their last 13 visits. The schools first met on Feb. 22, 1926, with Army posting a victory at West Point. In 25 games played, Champion has averaged 12.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per contest, while hitting 72.9 percent (51 of 70) of his free throws. During the Lehigh game, he led the team with a career-high 25 points and seven rebounds, while hitting seven of 11 three-pointers. Previously against Lafayette, Champion totaled 12 points and a career-high nine rebounds. He also played well against Navy, scoring 14 points on six of 10 shooting from the field. Some of Champion s other top games this season have been at Lafayette (career-high 24 points, six rebounds), at Hartford (22 points, four rebounds, three steals), at Navy (20 points, seven rebounds), against Maine (20 points, career-best seven assists), against New Hampshire (19 points, four assists, three steals), at Marist (16 points, career-high eight rebounds), at Rhode Island (13 points, four rebounds), at Brown (12 points, seven rebounds, four steals), at Colgate (12 points, three rebounds), against Albany (11 points, six rebounds) and against Boston University (11 points, five assists, three steals). In 29 games played a year ago, he averaged 4.8 points and 1.8 rebounds, while hitting 46.8 percent of his field goal attempts (51 of 109) and 37.9 percent of his three-pointers (22 of 58). Over the course of his Holy Cross career, Champion has now totaled 501 points, 186 rebounds and 49 steals. CHAMPION TIES THREE-POINT RECORD AT LEHIGH: During the Feb. 15 game at Lehigh, junior guard Robert Champion tied the all-time Holy Cross single-game record for three-point field goals made. Champion drained seven of 11 attempts from behind the arc against the Mountain Hawks, becoming the fifth player in school history to drain seven threepointers in a game. The feat was previously accomplished by Rob Feater (at New Hampshire, Nov. 25, 1994), Kevin Hamilton (vs. Chattanooga, Dec. 19, 2005), Devin Brown (vs. Navy, Feb. 16, 2011) and senior guard Cullen Hamilton (vs. Sacred Heart, Nov. 13, 2013). CHARLES STEPS INTO STARTING LINEUP: Freshman forward Karl Charles has made an immediate impact for the Crusaders this season. In 25 games played, Charles has averaged 10.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals per contest, while hitting 78.1 percent of his free throws (89 of 114). He has stepped up his play even more since the start of Patriot League action, averaging 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds against conference foes, and hitting 80.3 percent of his foul shots (57 of 71). During the victory over Lafayette, Charles recorded 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. Previously against Bucknell, he totaled 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Charles also played well against Army, posting his first career doubledouble with 20 points and 15 rebounds. A few of his other top games have come against Colgate (career-high 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots, three steals), against Loyola (17 points, eight rebounds), at Navy (16 points, five rebounds, three steals), against Sacred Heart (15 points, seven rebounds), against Boston University (15 points, six rebounds, five assists), at Hartford (13 points, three assists), against Maine (13 points) and at Kansas (12 points, four steals, three rebounds). Charles came to Holy Cross from Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset, N.J., where he averaged 15.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game as a senior. LEHIGH RECAP Robert Champion scored a career-high 25 points, but Holy Cross was defeated by Lehigh at Stabler Arena on Feb. 15, Champion hit eight of 14 field goal attempts and seven of 11 three-pointers on the night, in addition to grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. The Crusaders made 41.4 percent of their three-point attempts as a team (12 of 29), but hit only 34.9 percent from the floor overall (22 of 62). The Mountain Hawks also struggled shooting the ball, making 36.7 percent from the field (18 of 49) and 26.7 percent from three-point range (four of 15). But Lehigh held a huge advantage at the free throw line, hitting 24 of 31 foul shots (77.4 percent), while Holy Cross made just three of nine attempts at the charity stripe (33.3 percent). The game was close throughout a first half which featured three ties and 11 lead changes. The Crusaders led by as many as four points on two occasions, before eventually taking a advantage into the locker room. Holy Cross scored the first five points of the second half on a three-pointer by Champion and a layup by Malachi Alexander to take a lead. The Crusaders held onto a small lead for the next few minutes, and were later up with 11:59 left to play. A three-pointer by Karl Charles and two free throws by Champion then put Holy Cross up by eight (44-36) with 10:20 remaining. The Crusaders were still up by eight (49-41) with eight minutes left in regulation, before going cold from the floor. Holy Cross would not score another point for over seven minutes, as Lehigh used an 18-0 run to pull in front by 10 points (59-49). The Mountain Hawks scored their final 13 points of the game at the free throw line, including four straight by Kahron Ross in the final 20 seconds to hold on for the victory NCAA TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

3 HOLY CROSS MEN S BASKETBALL CARMODY IN FIRST SEASON WITH THE CRUSADERS: Bill Carmody is in his first season as the head men s basketball coach at Holy Cross in , with an overall record of The 17th head coach in the history of the program, Carmody came to the Crusaders with 32 years of Division I coaching experience, including 17 seasons as a head coach. From , Carmody served as the head coach at Northwestern University. In the four years from , he guided the Wildcats to four consecutive winning seasons, with his and teams both recording a school record 20 victories. Carmody, who previously spent four seasons as the head coach at Princeton University from , had led his teams to eight postseason tournament appearances two trips to the NCAA Tournament and six trips to the National Invitation Tournament. He was selected as the Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year in , and owns a career record of TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE: This year marks the 97th season of Holy Cross men s basketball. The Crusaders own an overall record of (.591), while making 25 postseason tournament appearances 12 trips to the NCAA Tournament, 12 to the National Invitation Tournament and one to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. In the history of collegiate basketball, Holy Cross is one of only 16 schools to have won the NCAA Tournament ( ) as well as the National Invitational Tournament ( ). Throughout its history, Holy Cross has had six first team All-America selections, sent 10 players to the National Basketball Association, had four players and coaches inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, had 23 players drafted by professional teams, had three players go on to coach professionally, and had 15 players who have coached in college. GREEN PLAYS KEY ROLE ON THE PERIMETER: After missing the first 16 games of the season due to injury, senior guard Eric Green has been one of the top all-around players off the Crusader bench over the last few weeks. In nine games played, Green has averaged 4.4 points and 2.2 rebounds, while hitting 51.5 percent of his field goal attempts (17 of 33). During the Bucknell game, he totaled a season-high 11 points and three rebounds. Green also had four points and five rebounds at American, while posting six points, five rebounds and two steals in the win over Navy. In 30 games played last year, he averaged 6.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, Green has now totaled 505 points, 253 rebounds, 107 steals and 100 assists. Holy Cross hit 82.8 percent of its free throws on the night (24 of 29), led by an 11 of 14 performance by Charles. The Crusaders also committed just seven turnovers in the game, while forcing the Black Knights to give the ball away 16 times. Army was led by Kennedy Edwards with 11 points, and Dylan Cox with 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists. After trailing by eight at halftime (40-32), Holy Cross scored the first six points of the second half to close the gap to two (40-38). The Black Knights were back up by six (45-39) a few minutes later before the Crusaders scored the next eight points, claiming the lead (47-45) on a three-pointer by Alexander. The game would stay close for the next several minutes, and the score was tied at with 8:11 left in regulation. After Army scored the next four points to pull back in front, Holy Cross used an 11-4 run to regain the lead (62-59), with Alexander scoring all 11 points. The score was then tied at with two minutes to play, when Charles converted a three-point play to give the Crusaders the lead for good. Holy Cross went on to hit all four of its free throw attempts in the final 10 seconds to hold on for the victory. THOMPSON RETURNS TO BACKCOURT: Junior guard Anthony Thompson is once again a key part of the Holy Cross backcourt this year. In 25 games played, Thompson has averaged 7.0 points, 2.9 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals per contest, while hitting 76.8 percent of his free throws (53 of 69). During the victory over Lafayette, he totaled 12 points, three rebounds and two assists. Previously against Bucknell, Thompson scored 11 points. He also played well against Albany, totaling a career-high 23 points, four rebounds and three assists, while hitting six of 10 attempts from three-point range. A few of Thompson s other top games this season have come at Bucknell (16 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals), at Colgate (14 points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals), against Harvard (13 points, seven of seven free throws), against Sacred Heart (10 points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals) and against New Hampshire (11 points, five assists, four steals). In 20 games played last season, he averaged 5.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals. In , Thompson was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie team after averaging 9.4 points, 2.5 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, he has now totaled 595 points, 192 assists, 173 rebounds and 84 steals, while making 74.3 percent of his free throws (194 of 261). CRUSADERS KNOCK DOWN FREE THROWS: Holy Cross is once again a solid free throw shooting team in Through 25 games played, the Crusaders have made 70.2 percent of their foul shots (344 of 490). Senior guard Cullen Hamilton leads the team by making 80.0 percent of his attempts at this charity stripe this season (40 of 50). Freshman forward Karl Charles (78.1 percent, 89 of 114), junior guard Anthony Thompson (76.8 percent, 53 of 69) and junior guard Robert Champion (72.9 percent, 51 of 70) have also connected on over 72 percent of their foul shots this year. As a team, the Crusaders have hit over 70 percent of their free throws in each of the last four seasons. In 30 games played last year, Alexander averaged 8.4 points and 5.0 rebounds, while hitting 73.5 percent of his free throws (72 of 98). As a freshman in , he averaged 6.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Over the course of his collegiate career, Alexander has now totaled 730 points, 429 rebounds and 133 assists. CRUSADERS HAVE TWO 20-POINT SCORERS AGAIN: During the Jan. 30 win over Navy, two Holy Cross players scored at least 20 points. Junior forward Malachi Alexander led the way with 26 points, while senior guard Cullen Hamilton finished with 24 points. That marked the third time this season that two Crusaders have hit the 20-point mark in the same game. During the Army game on Jan. 20, both Alexander and freshman forward Karl Charles scored 20 points, while in the Jan. 6 contest against Colgate, Charles scored 21 points and Hamilton added 20 points. Holy Cross has now won six straight games when it has multiple 20-point scorers, dating back to the season. HAMILTON STILL A TOP SCORING THREAT: Senior guard Cullen Hamilton is once again a key player for the Crusaders on the wing this season. In 25 games played this year, Hamilton has averaged 9.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest, while hitting 80.0 percent (40 of 50) of his free throws. In the victory over Lafayette, he totaled 10 points, four assists and two steals. Previously at American, Hamilton led the team with 18 points and three rebounds. He also played well against Navy, scoring a season-high 24 points on nine of 13 shooting from the field. A few of Hamilton s other top games this season have come against Colgate (20 points, four rebounds, four assists), at Brown (18 points), against Maine (13 points, four assists, career-best three steals), at Hartford (12 points, three assists, two rebounds), against Boston University (11 points, three rebounds, two assists), against Albany (11 points, three rebounds, two steals), at Marist (11 points, two rebounds), at Lafayette (10 points, five rebounds) and against Sacred Heart (10 points). In 30 games played last season, he averaged 6.6 points and 2.4 rebounds. During the campaign, Hamilton averaged 8.2 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest, but missed 15 games due to injury. A Patriot League All-Rookie selection in , he has now totaled 776 points, 262 rebounds and 120 assists over the course of his collegiate career, while making 77.3 percent of his free throws (116 of 150). HOLY CROSS IN THE NCAA STATISTICS: The Crusaders are currently ranked among the NCAA Division I leaders in four statistical categories, through games of Feb. 15. 5 HOLY CROSS MEN S BASKETBALL PROTECTING THE BALL: The Crusaders have committed only 295 turnovers in 25 games played this year, for a Patriot League-low average of 11.8 turnovers per contest. Holy Cross has had single-digit turnovers eight times this year, including a season-low six against both Lehigh and Quinnipiac. Last year, Holy Cross averaged 10.9 turnovers per contest, with 328 total turnovers in 30 games. That mark was the lowest in the Patriot League, and also set a new school single-season record. The Crusaders broke the record that had been set just one year earlier at 11.7 turnovers per contest in (398 in 34 games). FOUR CRUSADERS NAMED TO PATRIOT LEAGUE 25TH ANNIVERSARY TEAM: Four former Holy Cross men s basketball players were selected to the Patriot League 25th Anniversary Team, comprised of the top 25 players in the history of the conference. Rob Feaster ( ), Kevin Hamilton ( ), Keith Simmons ( ) and Tim Szatko ( ) were all recognized for their outstanding accomplishments during their careers with the Crusaders. Holy Cross four selections were the second-most in the league, behind only Bucknell with six. HUSEK STEPS UP IN THE POST: Junior center Matt Husek has developed into one of Holy Cross top players down low this season. In 25 games played, Husek has averaged 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots per contest, while hitting 40.0 percent of his three-pointers (18 of 45). During the first Lehigh game, he led the team with a career-high 23 points on eight of 11 shooting from the field. Previously against Maine, Husek posted his second double-double of the year with 19 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. He also played well at Hartford, totaling 11 points and eight rebounds. A few of Husek s other top performances this season came against Quinnipiac (15 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks) and Marist (12 points, 12 rebounds). Last season, Husek averaged 3.0 points and 0.9 rebounds in 22 games played. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has now totaled 228 points, 113 rebounds and 40 blocked shots. CRUSADERS AT THE HART CENTER: Holy Cross currently owns an all-time record of at the Hart Center, including an 8-5 mark so far this season. The Crusaders posted their 300th win in the building against Sacred Heart on Nov. 14, Holy Cross had a 23-game winning streak at the Hart Center from Feb. 15, 2006-Jan. 2, 2008, which was the longest streak in the history of the building and the sixth-longest home court winning streak in the nation at the time. In the Crusaders posted a perfect 14-0 mark at the Hart Center, setting a school record for the most home victories since they moved into the building. During the Hart Center s history, Holy Cross has posted a winning record at home in 34 out of 40 seasons, while recording double-figure home victories 18 times. During the Lafayette game on Feb. 10, the Crusaders partnered with the Connection to hold its first-ever Orange Out event, to raise awareness for early cancer detection. At the Feb. 6 contest against Bucknell, Holy Cross held Diabetes Awareness Day in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association and Novo Nordisk. And during the Jan. 27 game against Loyola (Md.), members of the Holy Cross coaching staff took part in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers Awareness Week. ZIGNORSKI PLAYS KEY ROLE OFF THE BENCH: Freshman guard Matt Zignorski has become a key part of the Holy Cross backcourt rotation this year. In 22 games played, Zignorski has averaged 4.2 points per game while hitting 38.3 percent (18 of 47) of his three-point field goals. During the Rhode Island game, he scored 10 points and grabbed two rebounds. Previously against Sacred Heart, Zignorski totaled 13 points and two rebounds. He also played well at Quinnipiac, finishing with 10 points and two assists. Zignorski came to Holy Cross from Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta, N.J., where he led the team to an overall record of 29-4 and the New Jersey Non-Public A state championship as a senior. CRUSADERS PICKED EIGHTH IN PRESEASON POLL: In the Patriot League preseason poll, Holy Cross was picked to finish in eighth place in voting by the conference s head coaches and sports information directors. The Crusaders received 50 total points in the conference preseason poll. Lehigh placed first in the poll, with 156 total points and 12 first-place votes, followed by Bucknell in second with 150 points and eight first-place votes, and Boston University in third with 126 points. Army West Point placed fourth with 108 points, while American was fifth (84 points), Lafayette was sixth (82 points) and Loyola (Md.) was seventh (73 points). The preseason rankings were rounded out by Colgate (ninth, 36 points) and Navy (10th, 35 points). DRIBBLES: Freshman forward Jehyve Floyd scored a career-high seven points in the Jan. 20 victory over Army... Freshman guard Pat Benzan posted career-highs of six assists and four rebounds against Lehigh on Jan During the Jan. 13 game at Lafayette, the Crusaders did not allow the Leopards to grab any offensive rebounds... Junior guard Robert Champion scored at least 20 points three times in a four-game stretch from Dec. 12-Jan. 2. Prior to Champion, the last Crusader with three 20-point performances in a four-game stretch was Devin Brown, who accomplished the feat in three straight games from Jan. 3-11, The Crusaders stand all-time in their first Patriot League game of the season, following this year s victory over Boston University. Holy Cross has now won its opening Patriot League game 11 times in the last 17 years... Holy Cross made a season-high 66.0 percent of its field goal attempts (33 of 50) in the victory at Hartford on Dec The victory over Harvard marked the first time the Crusaders won a game when scoring 50 points or less since Nov. 9, 2012 (a win at Old Dominion)... In the Nov. 19 game against New Hampshire, the Crusaders tied the school single-game records for both three-point field goals made (15) and three-point field goals attempted (35), in addition to tying the Hart Center record with 15 three-pointers made... With the victory at Marist, Holy Cross improved to all-time in season openers. The Crusaders have now won two straight openers and three of their last four... In the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate Report, for the four-class aggregate of entering classes from 2005 through 2008, the Crusader men s basketball team posted a perfect 100 percent graduation rate.
